I'm 61, have been riding a decoy for about three years now. My experience is 40 years of MTB, starting in Marin in the mid 80's. I been on every iteration of the MTB bike, way before suspension and lightweight materials. I've also raced XCMTB, Enduro, as well as Enduro Motorcycles. I started E-MTB on a Specialized Levo, don't waste your time with Specialized, go right to a YT! The absolute KING of rowdy, air time, fun! I'm gapping stuff that I would have never tried before, easy, and with style! Get one, find a way! Best bike hands down at the best price as well.

We're riding each week in the San Bernadino Mountains & have been joined by another guy who also has a Haibike. I Hadn't been on a Bicycle in 60yrs but the reason I can ride is because it a peddle assist E bike & it's FUN ! There is no Throttle if you don't peddle you don't go. Older guy here: I converted and got the Core 4. Then had a minor financial gift and also picked up a 'buddy bike' Core 2 for the still-analog pals. That second one is getting nearly as much use as the first. To your point: having two bikes of any variety is key - you can swap parts, have a spare (etc). But no joke: the ebike ruined me for analog biking up here in the Santa Cruz mountains. Being able to crush 2000' and 18 miles - over the lunch break, day after day - is just too much fun. It completely redefined the sport for me.

After renting Trek Rails, Marin Apline Trail E1s and Orbea Rise in Bentonville AR over the summer, we bought a pair of Orbea Rise Saturday afternoon.

First of all that sounds like an amazing summer! What was it about the Orbea Rise that did it for you over the others?

@@venacava_mtb I'm riding a Specialized Levo Comp Carbon that I got on sale, that's one way to save. I saved myself over 2K. You could get a TRANCE X E+ PRO 29 3, they're about 5-6K. Here's a good video on e mountain bikes under 5K. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGHKf6N9aL6ZeMU

because your a hard core super skilled rider that's around bikes all the time and have been aware of E mtbs existence for a long time and probably have a friend that has an e bike and you went for a spin. ok, i admit that's a lot of assumption but , come on , anybody into biking surely has tried one ? ok , i'll take your word for it . 😎

@@siriosstar4789 😂 thanks for your kind words brother. But honestly this was my first time. I was kinda of in that mind set that i think a lot of analog riders get into where we just make up or mind that we want nothing to do with an e-bike and just avoid them on principle. At first i told myself they were only for older riders and people who were out of shape. But then i started seeing all skill levels get one and finally i broke down and decided to try it for myself and make a video out of it. Thanks for watching and commenting!

i stopped riding at 65 ( 76 now) due to back and shoulder injuries . a friend brought their e bike over so i could try it and i flipped out . i was like , fk , i can ride again ! i have a really cool austrian bike called Nox with the new Sachs RS motor . it's a beast at 112 nm. i can get up any hill with ease . glad you had fun on your first ride 👍 stay in shape or you will turn into a 🐈 like me . 😂

Eco is last resort!! Boost all the time thats the whole point of an ebike
@modernklunker97112 жыл бұрын
I guess I don't understand why your micromanaging the motor. Just turn it on boost and leave it on, then you can blast out 20 mph on the flats kill the hills and then the motor will cut out on the downhills.. stop messing with it. And actually taking the time to turn it off on all the downhills? What the heck dude, LOL.
@venacava_mtb2 жыл бұрын
Good points! I'll have to try that next time. I have to imagine you really cut down the battery life if you're on boost the whole time though right?
@modernklunker97112 жыл бұрын
@@venacava_mtb depends on the bike, Rider input, and the length of your ride I can't imagine riding an e-bike on anything less than boost the whole time otherwise what's the point right? I think when you're riding a full power bike like the decoy, running it at full power is the thrill of the ride. If you get into these newer mid-power lightweight e-bikes like the new fuel or the new pivot, then you're looking at more of a medium assist up the hill so you can enjoy a fairly normal feeling mountain bike ride down a hill.. but there's no poppiness or playfulness on the 50 plus pound bike so you might as well run it with your hair on fire.

Whatever Dude..... It jumps and handles just as good as either one of my bikes but I'm not going to get one because I hate doing twice the amount of riding in half the time. Plus going back up to the top of the mountain is not only fun it's relatively effortless so when I get to the top and I'm pissed that although I had a ton of fun riding up I still feel fresh enough to immediately bomb back down the mountain and repeat the process all over again and then again. And I can do five laps in the time I normally do two. So there is no way I'm getting one because...... Dude when the bleeding of your self inflicted axe wound stops; reach deep down in your pocket grab your nuts and your wallet and go pull the trigger on a ebike!

Tell me what you really think 😂. You're absolutely right about all that i just can't get over my two bike problem. With more bells and whistles on an e-bike there are more things to break too. If i only have one bike and it's not rideable i don't get to ride that weekend. That's a deal breaker for me. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment🤙

@@venacava_mtb Hey bro I apologize I was a little harsh, as if I was talking to one of my close friends and I don’t even know you nor do you know me so my bad for being a Richard. You should seriously think about figuring out a way to get an Ebike. Some of the most enjoyable rides I do now are challenging super steep up hills. It’s so fun to get a few mates and compete for who can get the furthest up the superstreep.

It's sounding like "the most powerful nation on the planet" is really constricted with regards uptake on e-bikes? Yes ... e-bikes WILL encourage people who can't get out on a stEam-bike to give it a go. "Yes" - ebikes with their extra weight WILL feel more planted and confidence inspiring. But I'm just surprised because a lot of your observations are "nothing new" to us down here in New Zealand. Are you guys in the US really sooooooo restricted on e-bikes that you haven't realised the potential? (For the record, I don't ride e-bikes - I prefer my 2006 Giant Glory 8 stEam-bike (albeit with some serious mods that take it down to 15 kgs, make it more pedal-able with ... carbon-fibre rims ... better (12 speed) gearing ... lighter front forks ... high-engagement hubs (yeah bebbehhhhh) ... BUT I totally get the value-proposition of e-bikes ... to the point that I'm considering a 2023 Orbea Rise an an all-purpose weapon just for longevity of ride). Is legislation in the great you-ess-of-eh really that restrictive that you guys don't get it???
@venacava_mtb2 жыл бұрын
Cheers on your bike, that thing sounds awesome! Thanks for watching and commenting! So I'm curious if prices of e-mtb are much lower in new Zealand making them more affordable and therefore more ubiquitous over there. For me right now it's just a matter of cost and the two bike problem. Let me know if you end up getting the Orbea.

@@venacava_mtb sadly, in NZ everything is multiplied by the exchange rate and then they add shipping plus there's GST plus a fee for someone to pick their nose and someone has to make a cup of coffee for Grandma ... etc., ... So at NZ$ 13,000 - 23,000 (the price of a decent 2nd hand car ... ) and a son to put through university ... I'll probably have to save for a little bit longer before I can justify the Orbea Rise! 🤣🤣
