This was the 2.1 cdi came in with 1 leaking injector seal chuffing, customer wanted all 4 replacing. 3 come out easy but the last one was abit tricky.

Hey bud welcome to the channel, thank you for the comment 👍. If your injector are not leaking yet then I have a tip. If you tighten the injector clamp bolts before they leak then that saves them. You will be surprised how loose they become overtime as the the injector seal crushes down. You might get a full 90degree turn on them.

Nice clear video on the job, although it's worth mentioning that if the cosmetic/sound-deadening cover has been on over a chuffing injector then the carbon build up can be HUGE, to the point I've just had to excavate carbon mass from above the top of the injector, which is why I've heard this issue described as the 'black death'. Oven cleaner was pretty effective at clearing the remains of the carbon out from around the head once I'd chipped and ground the mass of it away.

I had a severe case of Black Death on my Vito. Ended up having all new injectors, head and engine loom where it was all crusted thick. My poor mechanic spent hours getting all the black carbon out. Great to see the process that goes into the job.. 👍

Thanks for uploading mate! I’ve got a saga going on with my vito, paid someone to do this job and it’s been back 4 separate times with leaks and problems. He’s finally replaced the injectors with new ones as was first agreed upon but the third injector is now leaking. A nightmare, hopefully now I can fix it myself. Cheers

@@YTDTETV cheers brother! All sorted now thankfully! Only thing I did different was I put the hardline back on the injector but upwards and used that as a bit of a handle to yank it out. Your idea with the screwdriver to get the seal out worked a f-ing treat too!

Good work , exactly how I’d do the procedure apart from I find the torque setting on most diesel injectors isn’t sufficient, you had torque setting and angle so is ok , but on the diesels with just a torque setting I find small rachet and nip up snug so you can feel copper washer compressing works for me , with around 8nm alone it doesn’t seal properly just leaks in my experience, but yeah like I say good informative work considering these can really go bad when they want to I’ve seen a £2000 v6 both heads off jobbie when they really go bad the once

Hey Glenn.. thanks fir the comments glad the info has come in useful, if you havnt got it out yet just spray something round it to loosen it up, wiggle side to side while pulling and it should come out 👍. Remember to clean the bolt clamp holes, as in the vid cut a groove in the bolt and it works as a tap.

@@YTDTETV quick question .. is it possible to get replacement union for the top of injector ? It’s been cross threaded by a previous and weeps a bit . It the connection to the injector from the fuel feed ... otherwise I’ll rob one from an old injector ... oh yeah and another quick question 😉 does replacing one injector need the computer re programming or will it learn ? I’ve done on a berlingo van no probs but they’re Not German .. no rush to reply mate ,whenever you’ve time .. thanks a lot and good luck

@@Chain21SAW I’ve just had a little look on eBay for ya and I can’t see anyone that sells them individually but that’s not to say you can’t, you might need to phone a diesel specialist in your local area as I’m sure you could get one there. I’ve seen them leak before, on some fords you can only do the fuel line up once and then to replace an injector you need to replace the hard fuel line to the pump, but that is only on fords. Yes you would need to recode a new or used injector, if you havnt got the diagnostics to do it just write down or take a close up picture of all the numbers on the top of the injector and phone round a few local backstreet type garages and I’m sure some will do it for you. You will be able to drive the motor to them but it would definitely run a lot better once done 👍👍

Hey rem some injectors do get very stuck, I’ve heard of merc injectors being slightly bent causing them to stick in. Well done for getting them out 👍

Hi George oh that’s a pain in the backside, Erm yes a tap would have been better than a bolt as the debris does t have anywhere to clean into with a bolt. If there’s no thread sticking out to get hold of it might be a case of getting the head off unfortunately.

@Jay Heisenberg I did get my EGR replaced in the end with a reconditioned one. It's been perfect since with a new propshaft too. Shame the rust is so bad on it now though. Just spent quite a few hundred on welding sills and wheel arches and sliding doors. But it's an old Vito so what you gonna do 😃😅

Hi bud thank you 👍 with regards to cleaning the seat it should only be carbon build up that would falls into the cylinder and that will burn away almost instantly once first started. I’ve changed many injectors and plenty of carbon drops in there and just start the engine, you will get a little bit of smoke for a few seconds then it burns off I’ve never had a problem.

Thank you mate appreciate that 👍 I’d put money on the starter motor being tired. They fill up with dust etc then turn over slower. A real old school mechanic would take it off take it apart clean and re assemble and would turn over as normal.

Hi bud I can’t actually remember but it doesn’t do much sealing as this engine has a sealed rocker cover so all a seal half way down would do would keep any moisture from seeping down. Thanks for the comment 👍

Hi bud crank shaft sensor isn’t near the injectors so wouldn’t have thought the cleaner has damaged it, when trying to start the engine does the Rev counter go up? Have you located the sensor just to confirm it’s plugged in? Let me know I’ll try my best to help.

Hi bud so any fluids that drain into the cylinder while cleaning will just burn off soon as you fire it up. I bet the cleaner you’ve used is flammable so it won’t be a problem. I’ve had bits of carbon all sorts fall in and they just fire straight up.

I have the Black Death on my w211 e 220 07 plate and we done everything like in your video but when all put together the 2nd injector where was the problem initially still leaking .. all cleaned properly,greased,new washers .. but we read needs 70Nm +one 90’ not two like u mention here.. could be this the reason it’s still leaking ? Hi bud yes I’m pretty sure merc injectors need coding, you would be able to fit it then drive somewhere to have it coded. Only take 2 minutes with a computer.

@DTE TV thanks mate I took the airbox off this morning to inspect the fuel injector 3!!! I notices that the bottom turbo pipe had come loose, so I losing it off and refitted the pipe and secured it fairly tight. now this seems to have cleared the fuel injector fault. but i im worried the damage is already done now because its noisy when idle also there is hardly any power when driving off but when it does get going it can get to 4000 rpm before it will change gear

Hi bud welcome to the channel, it should on the bottom of the front of the engine just above the sump it gets its signal from the flywheel so it will be in the block close to the gearbox. Probably buried on a RWD.

Hi Nicholus big welcome to the channel, if the pump isn’t pumping fuel to the injectors the first thing is the fuel filter either replace or clean it. I just been on Google for you and looking to see if your model has an in tank electric fuel pump. You could either have a faulty in tank pump or it’s possible the mesh,gauze,filter in the fuel tank is clogged up. I’ll do my best to help 👍

@@YTDTETV Hay. All 4 were done. Broke down today because of fuel issue and when car was started I noticed a chugging and I was like oh that's new. I'm always listening for new sounds.its a 2010 viano with 367 thousand miles on it so been around a fair bit.

@@everythingeverywhereanyone blimey that is high miles, merc do know how to make a good engine thow. Surely you would have noticed the noise before breaking down so maybe it’s not the injector seals. An exhaust leak can sound similar when it’s close to the engine or out the turbo. Maybe have a poke around while it’s running and see if you can locate it.

@@YTDTETV yeah and drives like a dream. Just had mot 2 days ago and flew through with no advisories which was a treat.. yeah it broke down because it ran out of fuel. Diesel 2.2 auto. Yeah I will have a deeper look tomorrow and really do hope it's just a hole in exhaust. Sounds just like a steam train puffing.

Hey bud welcome to the channel, yes if it’s been left a while it builds up like tar. If you change them while the engine is warm it’s easier to get them out. The tar stuff chips off easy when cold. Just spend an hour with a flat head screw driver chipping away at it.

Ive had to change my return fuel pipe as it was so stuck and brittle it broke the plastic bits bought a new one off ebay but it wont push in to the female part,the end washer seems bigger than the original one bought one from merc which was bigger than the original one and still wont go in do i need a special tool to push or pull in ?

Hey Terry a few people have said that, I can normally get an injector out in 5-10minutes so for time wise it’s not to bad.
