So, things literally started becoming easier during that time; and modern innovations created more free time for people. I mean, even with all the editing, you can hear the film making allusions to these innovations.

I don't think I've ever put in a full 72 hours, but I've done quite a few 7x10s. Amazingly easy to pay the bills when you have no time to spend your money. In the era that this was filmed, it would be impossible to work that much (as an employee) if you didn't have a spouse. There would be no way to get any of your banking or mailing accomplished.
