It's not groundbreaking but I like that they show how hard it is to be loyal to a friend when they start being toxic. It may be hard, but some people just begin to go down a wrong path. Jack and Crow decided to stop feeding Kallin's mania by leaving, but Yusei was a good friend that found it too hard to leave him. However Kallin needed to know the truth and Yusei just sticking by his side knowing what he was doing was wrong kept pushing Kallin down a wrong path. There really is no easy way to deal with someone like that, but sometimes being a good friend isn't just sticking by their side, it's telling them what they need to hear and Yusei didn't do that in time. Kallin picked his own path, but maybe it wasn't 100% certain had Yusei did things differently. Then again we saw how much Kallin chose to close his eyes to reality so staying or leaving might not have made a difference and in the end there was no clear answer given on what Yusei should have done. No easy answers. It'a a complex issue that's not focused on much, but I do think the writers for 5ds did a great job for season 1 and made interesting characters.

Long story short....(Spoiler)... You've been warned Kalin went power crazy after there was no longer duel gangs to challenge him and turned his eyes on sector security. 4kids ended up skipping over the duration of the team's breakup and how mentally unstable Kalin truly became. It only became Kalin and Yusei at the end and Yusei didn't want to abandon Kalin(cause of his personal loyalty trademark for the show). Kalin ends up killing and Sector Security guard with the blood on him(4kids censored the scene). Yusei tried to take the blame for it but it didn't work.

There was a similar inconsistency when Crow activated Backlash in part three of his duel with Greiger. Just before it transitioned to a closer look of the card the picture was of that one trap with Sangan and the exploding level stars. This shows card illustrators were definitely not paying attention.
