This is the absolute worst problem with Yugioh, in my opinion. Some new "game breaking" engine/deck comes out, and Konami puts it behind a pay wall in order to make the sealed product worth the LGS's time. The problem is that people will buy these singles for however much, and then in a few years the next big thing will come out and make your investment obsolete. How are we expected to keep the player base intact when this is a constantly reoccurring issue? How many times can they expect people to make $400+ investments before they are done with that kind of cycle and put that money toward something that's actually worth the long term? I'm not saying everything should be cheap, and I'm not saying the LGS's shouldn't be rewarded, but the health of the game needs to come into question at some point.

The problem is not money as much as it is balance and power creep. If people knew their expensive new Meta cards weren't definitely going to get hit by a banlist because they're that strong. If people knew a new set definitely wasn't coming out within 6 months that would have cards way stronger than fiendsmith, they would enjoy investing in a strong package that served them for years. Too bad when you buy expensive stuff in this game it gets axed down or power crept out within a year.

This is one of the key problems with Konami. The fact is: This problem you named and explained correctly has been identified by so many players that came before us. And this vicious cycle: every players that plays competitively has experienced this at least once in their yugioh career. It´s toxic and it´s highly disrespectful for the money we put into the hobby. But it won´t change until the profit aren´t satisfying anymore. The easiest fix to this would be adapting the multiple versions per card that the OCG has, that Pokemon and One Piece have. Even Magic recently started doing multiple versions of cards. But Konami likes greed way too much. And we can´t do much about it other than stop buying product and singles (which isn´t a good solution if you still actively want to play the game).

@@wardy4903 it is money. As a disabled person its definitely money. People who play other card games literally laugh in our faces for paying this much money just to play. yugioh is 3x more expensive than the next leading TCG. facts. if its ever time to get out, now is the time.

The TCG gets screwed. These cards in the OCG are lower rarity and have more printings in their respective sets. The Dragon Master Magia is a $3 super rare for the ocg. S:P is sitting at $15 for the OCG. Konami sees what cards see play in the OCG, bumps their rarity, and short prints the shit out of them for the TCG. It's really making me hate this game. Cards for decks that don't even see play hit $20 just because of the rarity. Personally, I would be more willing to buy sealed product if I knew I actually had a chance to pull the cards I was looking for instead of knowing that my chances are slim to none and it being more worth it to just buy exactly what I want from the secondary market.

Opponent Mulcharmy's my Floowandereeze board. I Triple Tactics Thrust into Harpie's Feather Storm. Pass. Flip Feather Storm. Opponent discards whole hand. 🤣 Definitely a counter to Floowandereeze though Mulcharmy can be played in nearly anything. I think I'll be running it myself

Robbie, i understand how supply and demand works. I also understand that if the game is made too inaccessible, people get priced out of the game. Mulcharmy should've been a UR in my opinion, but hey, that's just me. Fiendsmith being an SCR makes sense though given that EVERYONE in the competitive sphere is going to want those cards, and the reason i'm fine with Fiendsmith being this pricey is because despite it being a stupidly strong engine: you aren't required to run it if your deck is fine without it. Like, you could always just play another strong deck that doesn't need it such as Plants, Labrnyth, Branded, Spright or what have you (and this will be doubly so once Konami finally gets around to addressing the tier 0 format). Its just good to have if it synergizes really well with your deck of choice, although i certainly wish we'd ban Beatrice. This isn't like when the Adventure Token engine came out where it was the only stupidly generic splashable engine, you still have other pre-existing options like Runick, Horus, Sky Striker or Adventure. I will say that i am concerned about what QCR exclusive, if any, is in this set.

Tell your LGSs to stop stocking yugioh if they can and don't purchase product directly nor in the secondary market. You don't deserve to be treated like a money pig while ocg players get treated like valued customers, respect yourself.
