Yu-Gi-Oh! PSA Returns Episode 10 - Can We Get 100% Gem Mint?

That sounds a little bit shady that you can just break out a card and send it back and get a different grade. :| Doesn't seem like there's very much quality control in their grading system.

Yeah, a lot of people used to do that with PSA cards. But as of 2020, if you break out a PSA 10 card from its case, and then send it back in to be graded, you will likely get a PSA 9 or PSA 8 for the high valued cards. This is because they are blatantly controlling the population of high valued cards. Therefore, if you see the serial number starts with anything less than "4", you should be wary. Their standards have changed. A PSA10 as of 2020, at least for high valued cards, has to be absolutely flawless. Similar to a Beckett Black Label. Granted, you could still maybe get a 10 for a card that is off-center and has whitening on the edges, but that will surely not happen with cards that go for anything more than a few hundred bucks. If the card is worth 10-50 bucks, sure, the standards haven't changed much. I know it's frustrating to hear this but it is the truth since covid caused a Boom in collectible card prices.

The boom has led to skyrocketing prices and thus, more people opening their old sealed boxes and sending their old card collections in for grading hoping to get a "10"... Since it is in PSA and Beckett's best interest for the cards to maintain this current high price we're seeing (so that lots more people send in their cards to them to try their luck), PSA and Beckett has made it much much harder to get a 10 or even a 9, for the vintage cards. Thus, that "10" stays coveted and becomes more elusive. The problem with this is that they have become inconsistent clusterfucks. Most PSA 10s today would not get a PSA 10 if they were broken out the case and sent back in... My advice; before buying, don't just look at the grade. Look at the card itself. If it is off center but it is a "PSA 10", don't pay so much... Becos we all know that the card would get a 9 at most by today's standards.

I always thought psa should do checkup grades every 3-5 years because yes the card is protected very well but it still moves inside the case and CAN get dinged of shook up also sunfaded etc so it could be a psa 10 when you got it graded but 10 years later what’s the grade now?

shows how stupid grading systems are since u can just keep resubmitting the same cards until you get the grade you want.. if it was a legitimate system the same card would be graded the same everytime.

You have to realize that people are humans and not everyone has the same opinion. The system is good but not perfect. As long as humans are used to grade cards, the system will never be perfect. And no, you cannot just keep submitting a card until it gets the grade you want. I only resubmit cards that look flawless but got a 9 on the first time, and only about 75% of those were upgraded. Many cards I've resubmitted were not upgraded and remained as 9s. I have submitted one of my cards 3 times and it got a 9 each time, never got upgraded to a 10.

Per the grading requirements the centering doesn't have to be 50/50 so a slight slight off centering with everything else near perfect can still yield a 10. No PSA 10 is truelly perfect.

@@arcadejackpotpro As of 2020, don't dream about getting a PSA 10 if it's off-center even if just by very little. A PSA 10 in 2020 for vintage cards at least, is like a BGS Black Label... Blatant pop control by both PSA and BGS nowadays becos they don't want these cards to lose their value due to everybody opening up their old vintage boxes or buying vintage boxes to open them or uncovering their old card collections from 20 years back and sending them in for grading... You see, if the supply of PSA 10 and BGS 10 or BGS Black Label increases for these vintage cards, then they will become worthless, and that means, people won't bother sending them in for grading anymore. So it is in PSA and Beckett's best interest to up their metrics and their standards and make it next to impossible to get a PSA 10 for vintage cards.

I've done the same sometimes a 9 makes you shake your head then the next time it's a 10. I've graded a few thousand cards with PSA. Mostly Pokemon but more sports cards recently. It seems sometimes you get Susie the grader who didn't get any last night so she takes it out on your cards. But seriously it appears different graders with different results sometimes tell me your experience.

I just watched all of your psa return videos and it was cool seeing all of the perfect condition old cards. I was wondering how you store the ones that aren't in cases from psa though? I feel like simply sleeving a card and putting it in a monster binder isn't enough and they could get damaged from the sleeve or accidentally bent due to how the binders are made.

I crack open PSA cards myself only if they are 8, 8.5, 9 I never crack open 10's. I would be interested on how you break open your cards because you get either the same grade or a higher grade. I do not recall you ever getting a lower grade on your resubmissions which is pretty amazing. I was wondering maybe in a future video, Can you display how you can open a PSA card? Great Video! That's mostly because I only crack open cards that got a 9 but deserved a 10. I have so many cards that are in 10 condition that sometimes I think PSA doesn't want to give me all 10s so they grade some as 9s. So I break those open and send them back. Also, I have a video on how to break open a PSA case. It's on my channel from like 6 weeks ago

do you recommend cracking cards for resubmission, or using the re-grading service? i've got a few 8's that i think could go back, but im always afraid to crack the case and potentially ruin the card, or even worse - crack it, send it in, and have it get a lower grade. just wondering if you've tried the resubmission service and seeing if you've had any luck with it. insane video by the way man, i've never heard of anyone getting 100% psa submissions on anything over like 5 cards. hope to see a full LOB set completed one day, commons and everything.

The entire LOB set in PSA 10 1st edition is the goal! Hope I get there one day. I have used the review process as well as cracking open cases and sending the cards back as new submissions. I have been about 90% successful in sending off cards that I cracked open myself. I have been about 60% successful using the review process. That's why I crack them open now and no longer use review process. It doesn't damage the card if you do it right. Hope that helps!

I just use a soft penny sleeve and a semi-rigid holder. That's what PSA recommends you use when sending cards to them. Good luck!

When you send a card in and it gets a 9 . You are not happy with it, then you break it and send it back in. Eventually it will get a 10, but that is not ok, thats like cheating. Once your card got graded its over and you should live with that grade.

No. I know many people who have sent in cards numerous times and sometimes the grade goes down, not up. There is absolutely no guarantee a card will go up, even if you send the same card 500 times I only send back cards that should be a 10 but were unfairly graded 9. If anything, it proves that I was right and the card should be a 10. Besides, it's my money and my cards, I can do what I want with them. For you to tell me that I have to live with whatever grade they get is like me telling you that you should live with cancer and not try to fight it.
