I love how energetic and experimental the Bandai and early Konami Yugioh card art looks. It’s like the difference between a veteran film director and a newbie. The modern card art is refined and consistent but it’s locked into a certain style for the most part. The old art took big swings and would def miss at times, but its creativity so exciting. I loved the wondrous feeling of opening a pack as a kid and seeing what new crazy monsters they’d concocted.

I actually love these, I bet if they printed them as alternate art for classic monsters, collectors would go crazy. Or even make an archetype inspited by these artworks, like Memento.

I honestly think the Bandai artstyle is just neat! It's got this charm that makes them stand out, especially for the cards we've yet to see an OCG/TCG adaptation. @Bad_Gazpacho Imma be honest, despite Duel Monsters designs don't have the slight weirdness of early Takahashi (which Toei took as the blue print), I really think Toei's season 0 is better in animation and direction than Studio Gallop Toei ofcourse being a powerhouse animation studio probably at their peak in the 90's this makes sense to me What I really like about Gallop's Yugioh style through the series is really how gorgeous the lineart looks when they draw closeups of characters they translated the weighted lineart you see in manga better than most anime, but DM & GX (sometimes) suffer from (I am assuming here, because I am 90% sure that GX was colored digitally but not so much with DM, it gives me DigiPaint look tho) early DigiPaint anime syndrom were the colors often just are meh looking compared to a lot of cel painted works The colors in Toei's series are awesome!

I like the art. It has dynamic poses and looks gritty, like early Pokémon. I also like seeing familiar cards with different colour palettes. The palette swaps from early YGO are some of my faves like Thunder Kid and Electric Lizard
Three blue eyes chained up is honestly really badass. Its also dark and grim. These powerful creatures, chained up by powerful dark magic. Forced to work in concert. It thematically fits season 0.
