There are two main tragedies in this scene that make it so impactful. Firstly, Yu is fighting someone he genuinely treasures as a friend. Unlike in the original P4, Adachi in Golden is someone with a backstory that undoubtedly many of us relate to on a deeply personal level, and Yu got to see a side of him that really does care about people, especially Dojima and Nanako. Yu absolutely hates seeing his friend destroy himself like this, knowing that they were one and the same, and the reason he goes ham on Adachi is to try and literally smack some sense into him when he knows its only hurting him more than it is Adachi. Secondly, Adachi is effectively the Seekers Of Truth's collective Shadow, and is what any of them could've turned out to be if they didn't have each other to lean on. Yu and Yosuke came from out of town just like he did. Chie and Naoto both want to go into public service by working with the police, just like he did. Kanji and Naoto are misjudged and mistreated by their peers at every turn. Yosuke and Yukiko are both dissatisfied with their seemingly stagnant lives in Inaba, just like how Adachi despises his time in Inaba himself. If any of them had been left to fester on their own, they could have become exactly like him. And knowing that he couldve been like Yu, with countless bonds and friends, is perhaps the grandest tragedy of them all. Adachi is such a phenomenal villain, dude.

In the anime of Persona 4 (not golden), Yu haves a little dream while he fights Mitsuo. In it, he lost everybody after catching the murderer because no one else was kidnapped. The Investigation Team disappeared. At the end of that dream , Yu is watching the midnight channel hoping for someone to be kidnapped to reunite with his friends. This shows that if his friends actually left him after catching the murderer, Yu probably would start kidnapping people to reunite the Investigation Team. Becoming Adachi in some way

Something I noticed in game and in the two anime. Adachi never really tries to kill you when he gets the chance. (Boss fight not included) He misses his shot on purpose and had multiple chances in the anime to kill Yu. He's probably too afraid to actually kill someone himself since before he just had others and shadows do it.

I honestly prefer this fight over the original one in the anime? The original one felt like you were fighting a heartless criminal; and, Adachi may be that, but here... Here, it's so different. This criminal is not only a criminal, he's someone YOU know... you considered THIS CRIMINAL *YOUR* FRIEND, it's pretty obvious that you at least want to give this heartless man at least a chance to save himself and get back to the real world safe and sound. Of course, this doesn't mean you'll forgive him. I think that the last scenes perfectly reflect how hurt Yu was when fighting Adachi and how much he wanted to take Adachi back safely. If you remember, Adchi is supposed to be freakin out of his mind. Heck, I'm positive he doesn't even know what he's doing with his Persona! He's so socially isolated and bored that he became a Eric Harris-looklaike. That, and the Jester Arcana represents a suppressed fool. Adachi may be the New World's Fool, but he doesn't have infinite possibilities. And yet, we had this awesome two-parter describing how he got into this mindset, how he grew more and more insane as time went on. That's a real bummer... x/

I’m pretty sure the reason for this is that the original anime is supposed to be about the original game where Adachi did not have a social link, this Narukami wasn’t able to get close to him. However in Golden they gave him a social link so it would seem less likely he was the traitor for new players. The effect of this is that the Yu actually has a more intimate relationship with Adachi than the original.

While I've always typically liked the original animation over this due to Golden kinda watering the entire plot down to fit in the extra bits, they actually did good with this (even if they subsequently fucked up Ameno Sagiri to the point where it's somehow 'worse' than the asspull fight in the original animation). Adachi legitimately gets under Yu's skin, the same kid who pretty much personifies the stoic trope, and instead of just letting himself get fucked over while Adachi simply monologues, Yu really does fight, though much sloppier than he normally doesn, just throwing Persona after Persona at him without much thought, it shows that Adachi really did cause Yu to spiral a bit after betraying his friendship, it felt much more like the 'inverse Yu' fight it's meant to be that hell, even the games didn't do particularly well at. Honestly it makes me wish there was a master cut of persona 4 animation where the best parts of both animes got mashed together into a complete show.

Technically Adachi could have finished Yu off multiple times (adachi didn't want to kill him], and however I still find it hard to believe Yu would beat Adachi in marital combat due to Adachi has Police and martial training being he's higher level detective in good shape (Adachi took the job seriously at one point so he definitely trained hard). Him and Dojima looks to be in very good shape for the job.

If you saw the part with the gun he lost the whole fight because he hesitated to shoot Yu so that fumble caused him to get tackled and punched repeatedly and even with training that's hard to overcome. Adachi was also probably pulling his punches towards Yu

When you go to meet him alone and he asks “Give me one good reason I shouldn’t just shoot you” Yu can reply with because you can’t. Adachi then mocks yu before grazing his ear with a bullet, That didn’t prove anything aside from yus point. Deep down adachi does consider yu a friend. Yu was the one person that tried to reach out to adachi tried to understand him and tried to empathize with him. If adachi has any of his conscious left it’s because of yu.

After beating Ameno Sagiri , Adachi is back to (less aggressive)personality. He still hates the society but he regrets what he has done. İn Arena Ultimax we saw this. He is chronologically 32 or 33 years old(persona 5 takes place in 2016). I want to see him in next games his character development is insane.

Adachi was so perfect. Thematically to the whole story and more importantly as the complete opposite and antithesis to MC and his strength. Even though he’s a totally disgusting and corrupt individual you can’t agree with, his mentality and statements make perfect sense from his perspective and you can’t help but understand his convictions. In the P4G animation they gave Yu a Shadow, but it's while fighting Margaret, and I swear it's just for dramatic effect. It does a great job at that too, as it talks about stuff he's never said before, and sounds like it's going to cry.

NGL. I love this version of Yu vs Adachi lot more than the original anime. Not only because the previous episode was a good build up to this version of Yu vs Adachi, but also the stacks much more personal for Yu because he actually has a connection with Adachi. Not only that, the original version of the anime was just Magatsu Izanagi beating Izanagi before Adachi was basically told he was a 🤬. The battle was turned around in Yu’s favor far too quickly. Instead, in this event, Yu is using the Ultimate Personas he gets from completing all of his friends’ Social Links (including Dojima and Nanako) in addition to Izanagi. I love this a lot for many reasons. It’s Yu reminding himself that he isn’t alone, even if he’s confronting Adachi by himself, the bonds of his friends is something Yu has that Adachi doesn’t. 2. It serves as a strong battle of ideology between Yu and Adachi than in the original, especially since Yu and Adachi saw each other’s perspective in their first clash. 3. Finally, it makes Magatsu Izanagi actually feel like a powerful Persona. Being able to fight all of Yu’s best Personas by himself.

You can see the exact moment Adachi lost. When he drives Yu through the table and Yu gets up, Adachi points the gun right at him, but he doesn't shoot. He hesitates. He is too much of a coward to kill directly, much less kill the only person he could consider a 'friend'. This gives Yu the opportunity to headbutt and daze him, then get him on the ground. When he's straddling the fight is already over, you can't recover again.

One of the reasons I prefer original over golden. Golden emphasizes the depth in each character much better than the original but the additional content was too half-assed which made everything aside from that dull and cliche. I feel like persona 5 was the only persona game in the series to pull the whole expansion off properly without half-assing it and ruining the storyline while only improving a few things.
