OH MY EVERLOVIN GOD been tying this knot for 5 years since I started using braid. Never knew it was called the Yucatan knot till right now. Good Lord I feel dumb as seen countless vids of guys recommending the Yucatan knot as the best of the EASY and fast braid to non braided line knots. I just watched a video on braid to mono knots back in 2018 or 2019 wasn't even narrated just pleasant innocuous music and two hands from a the correct perspective showing how to tie the knot.

I appreciate the video instructions. I have had problems with slipping but I have been able to get a reliable hold after practice. One thing I was doing incorrectly was trying to tension both sides at the same time. I noticed in the video that the mono side is held at first instead of pulled. Stop to massage the unfinished knot before releasing the mono tag end to pull both sides until tight. If your finished knot looks sloppy, it will slip. If it is all tight as shown in the video, it will hold.

From my experience using this knot surfcasting for striped bass. The braid line wraps itself around the know on the leader tag end, resulting in the cut edge of leader cutting through the braid when casting heavier plugs between 2-5 ounce range. Now for wreck fishing outstanding knot to drop to bottom and reel up fish.

It's the strongest knot I have ever tested. Few points. Thinner braid needs more wraps. Wet and pull up tight, really tight, like using your knees and gloves tight. I tie a bimini twist to make the loop. Some hard braids can cut through the mono leader, solution is to tie in a short piece of slightly thicker softer braid using the same knot. It's not super slim but super strong and easy to tie, if your mono ends up at a right angle you know u are good to go. Good enough for marlin and tuna, so good enough for me

This is a way easier alternative to the FG knot but a lot of ya'lls are having a hard time because the mono is slipping. An essential step you're missing is straightening the braided BEFORE you pull on the braid and mono. I detailed the steps below. Okay yeah so after completing the loops and putting the mono through the braided line right at @0:49, wet your line then hold the mono and the mono's tag with your left thumb and then pull the braid VERY SLOWLY. Again, very slowly. Once it's tightening up a bit, STOP, then SRAIGHTEN/FIX the braided line. Similar to what he's doing at @1:03. Repeat this process several times until the braid completely tightens up then give it one more final tug to sinch it up nice and tight.

knot is not a problem to tie for me 30 pound braid to 40 pound leader, the only thing I didn't like about it. The leader tag end comes out of the knot at about a 60° angle so it doesn't go through the guides without trimming it very close, although it seems to be pretty strong, I would rather use an Albright and it definitely will go through the guides better

What exactly is the trick to getting the mono to wrap neatly around the braid during the cinching process, as shown in this video and others? It never works that way for me. Instead, the mono simply slides right out of the knot. IF there is a trick, how do you expect us to get it if you don't tell us? A little narration, or even subtitles, would make a world of difference. Further, if the knot is as easy as you say, why is it that the only help you can offer commenters is to "watch the video over and over"? What a crock. Channel blocked.

There is no trick to this. What you need to pay attention to is to wrap the braid around the mono sequentially, without too much space between them and without overlapping each other, and to ensure that the braid does not overlap by wetting the knot during the tightening process. If the knitting is on top of each other during the tightening process, you should immediately straighten it with your hand and tighten it again. The video clearly shows what you need to do visually.
