Mahabharata (Shanti Parva, 231.12-20) explains it in detail: According to Sri Vishnu Paran, Sri Mad Bhagavatam and Brahmanda Purana and Bhavishya Purana; this means that as each age or yuga appears, from the Krita, Treta, Dvapara, to Kali, each yuga decreases by a quarter of the previous yuga, in addition to the conjoining Sandhya and Sandhyansa periods with each yuga. In this way, it is roughly calculated that a whole cycle of the four yugas, namely Krita, Treta, Dvapara, and Kali-yuga together, total about 12,000 celestial years in length. TO DECODE - In this way, each yuga is preceded by a period called a Sandhya, which is as many hundred years in length as there are thousands of years in that particular yuga. Each yuga is also followed by a period of time known as a Sandhyansa, which is also as many hundreds of years in length as there are thousands of years in the yuga. In between these periods of time is the actual yuga. Therefore, we have: Krita-yuga = 4000 divine years, Sandhya = 400 divine years, Sandhyansa = 400 divine years. Total = 4800 divine years x 360 days = 1,728,000 human years. Treta-yuga = 3000 divine years, Sandhya = 300 divine years, Sandhyansa = 300 divine years. Total = 3600 divine years x 360 days = 1,296,000 human years. Dvapara-yuga = 2000 divine years, Sandhya = 200 divine years, Sandhyansa = 200 divine years. Total = 2400 divine years x 360 days = 864,000 human years. Kali-yuga = 1000 divine years, Sandhya = 100 divine years, Sandhyansa = 100 divine years. Total = 1200 divine years x 360 days = 432,000 human years. Right now, after the Dvapara-yuga, we're roughly 5000/+ - 100 years - As mentioned by the scholars this is very true. However, The age of Dvapara-yuga is not less than 864,000 human years. And before the beginning of Dvarapa-yuga the end of Treta-yuga begins and spans for 1296000 human years. I agree that is is very hard to comprehend these time periods, but retrospectively history doesn't have to do with our beliefs.

No doubt Nilesh sir is a scholar but he is wrong in giving mahabharata time period. kaliyuga has a time period of 5000 years and 432000 years. 432000 is for gods and 5000 for humans , various great saints have said this. we are now in sandhikala of kaliyuga and satya yuga. his astronomical calaculations have error because he or any scientist uses present data which are of kaliyuga so there are errors. just like an object length when immersed in water changes time period measurements also are subject to have minor errors.only those who have jnana chakshu give exact timings like great saints.

To know this you should read Kalagnanam book by Sri VeeraBrahmendra Swamy and Bhavishya Mallika by Sri Achyutananda Das.. it is clearly explained how the numbers get changed due to the sins committed in the kali yagu

This calculation was given by one great recent rishi. other maharshis like Veera brahmendra swamy, achyutananda das ji also said kaliyuga is 5000 years. according to the god's calculation ramayan happened before 869000 years which is almost impossible.
