Yo Sam, honestly man keep working with what you've got dude! If you built that Dragon deck essentially by yourself then you're on the road to becoming quite the competent deck builder! I could sit here all day and nit-pick things like you're using FnL cards and that your deck list isn't fully optimized and blah blah blah, but there's no fun in that. The fun comes from you figuring out what cards work well together, what cards don't, and building your OWN deck with your OWN ideas. Once you've got the hang of that then you can move on to small things like the FnL list, and optimization. Yu-Gi-Oh at it's core is a game about creativity and lateral thinking. From what I've seen of your deck it appears that you have those qualities in spades. So keep figuring out things on your own, slowly. It's more fun that way. Of course this is coming from someone who doesn't play the game very competitively. I run a self admitted bad blue-eyes deck. But anyway I hope you continue playing and learning about the game! Can't wait for Pendulums, that's gonna be a real big mess. Cheers mate.

Putting this out there now, if the player learning loves his dragons he needs to get a dark rebellion in his extra deck, it's a basic rank 4 and has decent stats with a somewhat decent effect (depending on how well you use it)

One of my favorite is dark rebellion but the deck i play (dark magician) i can never find an excuse to play the card because there isnt enough level 4 monsters. I haven't bought the keeper of dragon magic but once i get them i might be able to play him

I’m glad Sam is seeing the potential of xyz monsters and having a good challenging experience. I always love your contents and especially this series. I am a little worried on how pendulums will workout, because Sam can’t use his usual deck that he is familiar with. As for advice, Sam should better use a “twin twisters” instead, once he learned the importance of sending cards you need to the graveyard.

So I noticed that during the first duel. Sam used double edge sword technique after his first chain and resolved said chain. Not that it made too much of a difference but I feel a little more work with chain links and spell speeds may be needed

A misunderstanding I'd like to clear up: Number 38: Hope Harbinger Dragon Titanic Galaxy negates Spell Cards and Spell effects, not monster effects. Spell effects differ from Spell Cards in that Spell effects include those that are activated from an already face up Spell Card such as Dragon Ravine or Card Trader. Spell effects also include the effects of Spell Cards when they are off the field such as Geartown or Galaxy Cyclone. This distinction has to be made because cards like Magic Jammer negate Spell Cards but not Spell effects.

mst cant be activated in response, so it only is useful on the continuous variety of both. since dust can be activated in response, it would resolve first in the chain, and when a card is destroyed before the effect goes off, that is when you get into negation territory. dust also has a second effect that mst doesnt; replace the set card with a new one.

small mistake, Darkstorm dragons effect can only activate when you send a *Face Up* spell or trap not just any spell or trap. things that work are continuous traps, equip spells, continuous spells, field spells, trap cards that are also monsters and pendulum monsters (but only while they are in there pendulum zones i believe).

A future idea for you to think about. You and your friend, after he has become more comfortable with all summoning mechanics. You normally do a best 2 out of 3 match, do a mini tournament. No more than 4 people for simplicity. I do realize that this could take up to 2 or 3 videos to complete. 1: Start by using your own cards and doing a set of speed duels. (Do not use the official speed duel decks) 20-30 card deck, 5 extra deck, skill cards, and see who wins most. 2: Duel on the original field, no pendulum zones, no extra deck monster zones. However, your real decks cannot be altered from using the pendulums or link monsters already in them. 3: Move to the pendulum field and duel again. 4: Duel on a speed duel field with pendulum zones and the EMZ on it, with your FULL 40+ card decks and up to 15 in the extra deck, plus skill cards. 5: Finally, duel on the full MR4 field without any special conditions.

Sam apprentice, you should change out Dark hole from your deck for Raigeki instead. Raigeki in essence is Dark hole, but it only destroys your opponents monsters, not yours too. In my opinion, you should also increase your main deck size from 40 to 44 or 45. That would allow you to add some more monster and/or utility cards to it. Utility cards like mirror force, Dark hole, Mystical space typhoon, etc. The possibilities are endless. Also good game m8, you're doing well. Keep it up and you'll be a pro in no time!

Quick question. Would you say 44/45 are good amounts overall? I run a Zombie/Shiranui deck and sometimes I feel like I add way too many cards whenever I'm in the deck building phase. I am just getting back into the overall game now. (over the past month and a half/2 months)

If 4-5 cards extra is enough to ruin your strategy or draw consistency, then there's a bigger problem other than having too many cards. Yes most meta players use 40 card decks, but they also sacrafice valuable strategy or defense, by having limited win conditions. I don't know, just my two cents. Take care.

suggestions for the red eyes darkness deck: Red eyes fusion spell x 3 Red eyes black dragon x 3 some warriors that have good effects like Amazoness swords woman (any battle damage you would have taken during battles involving this card your opponent takes instead) sword barron is another good one being able to change the battle position of opponents monsters from defence into attack once per turn red eyes slash dragon x 3 (warriors and red eyes) or go the blue eyes white dragon route with it and get alternative, blue eyes itself, neo blue eyes ultimate, a couple ultimates(for neo's effect), spirit of white, etc focusing on the spell and traps i'd suggest adding a few to fuck your opponent like cylinder wall of disruption nightmare wheel dimension prison etc and taking ones that bring them back out (not all just some) couple solomn's never go a miss (pretty fast counters) instead of axe of dispair go for power of the guardians, you'll get over 1k after 3 attacks and a built in life support hand traps like ash, dd crow and sphere kuriboh arn't bad either

Let's be honest; Sam was doing good! Although Sam has the same skill level since Synchro Monsters, or improved, he had a blast! In my opinion, I think TGS had to do it for Duel Links, this Fall, due to Version 4 of that game to have Xyz Summoning. Either way, they both did great! I've also came up with a type of monster that I think would be possible on the 7th series, that would be half-Monster, half-Trap Card, with familiar skills to Pendulum Summoning, that would have a range from 2 to 4 different effects, depending on the situation.

Scenario question (Mirror Force activation with attack negation in response): Correct me if I'm wrong, Mirror Force activates when an attack is declared. The effect isn't negated, so in paper it should still resolve. Utopia however tries to negate the attack to theoretically stop the resolution requirements. But is the only way this strategy could be possible if Mirror Force has an "X to activate and resolve this effect" clause instead?

Sam could add a XYZ Dark Rebellion Dragon into his personal deck asc well as a Queen Dragun Djinn. Since the most of his deck is dragon themed he can use Darkness Metal to bring out low lvl dragons and then Xyz summon Dark Rebellion as a powerhouse from it's effect, then use Queen Dragon Djinn as protection. Also he could add a polymerization and a First of the Dragons since he's got a few normal types in his deck and First of the Dragons is an absolute beast.

Gateway of the Six wouldn't have worked to get Shien from the deck because Great Shogun Shien isn't a Six Samurai monster, he is part of the archetype, but isn't classified specifically as a Six Samurai. The Synchro and XYZ are, but the basic effect monster isn't.

Sam u need to add return of the dragon Jordan. Also focus on what the win condition of your deck is, in the case of your dragon deck, you want to bring out your big dragons, so only play that help summon them. Whether that’s putting them in the graveyard and bringing them back, so cards like axe of despair and megamorph really don’t help u, they just help you out more when you’re already going to win. Also u shoild plau dragon rabime and trrraforming to help you get to it as it is a field spell.
