I come back to this AMV all the time because of how fantastic it is. Not only arguably the best duel, but an iconic song to match with proper editing that matches the pacing. So first of all amazing work. Second, this is to me, the energy that a good duel with a friend, or really anyone is: an intense back and fourth that could go either way with twists and turns everywhere. The music encompasses that internal theatrics, and really makes me think about why I love Yugioh over any other game: it's a dumb over the top anime trading card game, but it's an outlet to be dumb and over the top (when it's not kicking my ass in mordern formats). Thank you to whoever actually reads thi for coming to my TED talk on an early 2000s AMV, lol

One little problem with Dark Paladin in the anime is he would actually be the stronger monster. You see he gains 500 attack for every dragon on the field and graveyard similar to Buster Blader. So Dark Paladin would have had 5400 attack instead of 3900 against the Blue Eyes Ultimate dragon with 4500 attack and won the duel. Red eyes Black Dragon and Blue eyes ultimate dragon would have given it the 1000 attack point jolt as they’re on the field, but the three blue eyes in the graveyard would have added that 1500 bonus for the 5400 attack. Also Yugi’s Archfiend of Gilfer was in the graveyard so Yugi would have been able to decreased the dragon’s attack again by 500 so Blue eyes ultimate dragon’s attack would be down to 4000. Then again after they threw all their cards into the graveyard due to the trap final attack orders, if either of them had any more dragons in the graveyard (Kaiba especially as he’s a dragon duelist) Dark Paladin definitely would’ve gotten even stronger with a 500 attack point bonus for each of them

@@shaquantucker7463 No because it’s a Divine Beast. It has to be a Dragon Monster not have Dragon in its name. Unless Dark Paladin’s text read “Gains 500 attack for every Dragon in the field or graveyard and/or monsters with dragon in their name” and Slifer didn’t have a text that read “This card becomes a Dragon when on the field or in the graveyard”. So no that wouldn’t have counted and neither would have Y-Dragon Head either or XYZ Dragon Cannon.

Even though it has the name Slifer the sky dragon, it’s still classified as a divine beast. If it’s effect text red “This card becomes a dragon well on the field or in the graveyard” then it would become a dragon. Just because it’s name says Dragon, it doesn’t mean it’s classified as a dragon by typing. Does that clear that up for you?

​@@stefanbrouwer459 Not counting the numerous misplays: Kaiba attacking with XYZ dragon canon the turn it was fusion summoned (not allowed under battle city rules), using xyz dragon cannon as 3 tributes for obelisk, lightforce sword's effect running out a turn too early, yugi activating Necromancy as a quickplay despite it being a normal spell (in battle city and during this duel, you can treat normal spells as quick plays if you set them first, yugi activated this from the hand during a battle),Yugi being able to summon Red Eyes when Kaiba used flute of summoning dragon.

Xyz dragon cannon is not considered a proper fusion summon despite being a fusion monster. Its a union monster and connects kinda like the Magnet worriors becoming valkyrian. Xyz dragon cannon is a union monster consisting of 3 monsters so they are still 3 monsters because the only thing they need to do is defuse and become their seperate part again, which they can since union monsters can do that. The turn to early i can ger but given that lightforce sword was activated on kaibas turn, so not yugi's, maybe they counted that turn as the first turn which wouldnt make sense indeed but any other explanation i dont know. They were both able to activate magic cards in the opponents turn thanks to spell sanctuary that was played in the beginning of the match. In the anime, the flute of summoning dragon allows both players to summon up to 2 dragons from their hands

@stefanbrouwer459 you're dismissing the misplays completely without having recently watched the duel. There are glaring misplays that have nothing to do with knowing or not knowing the outcome. Moves were purposefully avoided to make the duel more epic. (Kaiba couldve used monster reborn to summon obelisk, tributed both blue eyes, and won the duel instead of summoning ultimate dragon). Regarding xyz dragon canon, we have to watch the duel and see whats on his duel disk. If its a purple card, you're wrong. If it's brown, I'm wrong. You are correct though about it being a special summon and not a fusion summon. Necromancy was activated from yugi's hand, it was not set. The rule is that if the card is set, it can be used as a quickplay. Kaiba activated his card that allows spells to be activated "on the opponent's turn," this was still yugi's turn though.

True but thats plot armor for you. Kaiba was never written to duke it out with Marik. Yugi was since that made more sense for the story. And knowing kaiba he would not sacrifice his blue eyes that easily even if it would be the smarter decision. The battle city rules also state that When a Fusion Monster is Tributed, that monster is counted as a number of monsters equal to the number of Fusion Material Monsters that were used. In the case of xyz dragon cannon that is 3, which is enough to summon obelisk. I have looked it up on the battle city rules and it says also that A non-Quick Play Spell Card can be activated during the Battle Phase. Since this was still the battle phase, he was allowed to activate necromancy
