I have a Yugo KAR98K myself and just disassembled it and found that mine still has the original German barrel on it which provided me the original serial number for the receiver. Serial number is 622 which looks like it makes this KAR98 possibly mid 30's original production run from the Mauser plant in ObenDorf. What is really interesting the bolt body still has the original serial number on it of 723 which was found under the handle with a Waffenampt still intact and the floor plate has the number 619 on it along with the serial number the Yugo's assigned to the rifle. Seems like the barreled action the bolt and floor plate came from guns from the same production run.

@@HangInThereCat My rifle also has a hardwood walnut stock with some obvious shrapnel damage to the butt stock. Oh and check the bottom of your barrel when you have the stock off again you might have an original barrel as well check for a number on it the Germans serial numbered every major part on a KAR98 even the inside of the stock and handguard had matching numbers that matched the receiver serial number.

Great rifle and shooting. I have a KAR98 it's a great shooter as well as a M1903 &1903A3 . Similar rifles LOL. I paid under $150.00 in the early eighties I like the Yugo too. It really the same. You can still get those at a reasonable price in good condition.

@@HangInThereCat I own a 03A3 and I got mine for under $500 last year lightly sporterized she is now sitting back in military configuration in a original USGI stock with original hardware I was lucky the gun still had all of its original sights and its original issued barrel. It's a Smith Corona 1903A3

@@michaelbenjmitchell1 The Smith Corona would be my choice for an 03A3! And a Springfield for a 1903!Nice you were able to put back to how they are suppose to be!!! I was able to do the same with my sporterized all German Gew98, all matching and was able to find a complete German Gew98 stock for it; not Turkish or anything like that. Still haven't shot it, definitely thinking about it now! Thanks for watching!

Nice tack driving there! I don't even try to get out past 100 yds anymore - my eyes just aren't that sharp anymore! If I can get rounds on an 8x11" target at 100 yds with iron sights now, I am thrilled. That is a beautiful Yugo K98 refurb there! I agree the Mauser is the best and strongest bolt action ever invented. Mine is a post-war (probably early 50s) Czech Brno model. My dad acquired it in the early 1960s, and it came unfortunately bedded in a sporterized (albeit lovely) stock, without upper handguard furniture, or the bolt takedown ring in the stock. It has a bolt takedown hole in the side of the buttplate. It also has the larger trigger guard to accommodate a gloved hand (sometimes called a "winter trigger guard") and it and the bottom magazine cover are stamped. Still, it shoots great, and has that robust Mauser action. You know you've got a lot of gun in front of you with that chunk! I've been running Turk surplus, circa 1940s, with good results, though that is some hot stuff! I got a good bit when I found some pretty cheap. But so far, no hang fires, squibs or duds. A few have shown some very slight cratering of the primer. Also a few heavy bolt lifts. Have to do a good cleanup after, with the corrosive primers, of course. I also keep a little PPU modern production, and run some when I want to splurge, but it is some wimpy stuff, and at over $1.00 a round... I don't shoot it that much. I shot a half a box on my last range trip so I wouldn't have to clean, and then I felt guilty. But I did confirm the heavy bolt lifts were from the Turk stuff. I commented earlier on your SKS video, and was pleased to see this one! I will check out your other ones too, though I don't presently have those weapons! Your videos are really good and well done, and you are a very good marksman!

Thank you! I've tried Turk Surplus as well, some hot ammo!! The Yugo surplus I have/used had a couple of hang fires, but able to shoot after cocking the bolt again. Thankfully no squibs or duds, yet...lol. I have PPU as well, and plan to use those on my Gew98's, will definitely have them featured in the future, just going through a combloc phase at the moment. LOL!

Have an Israeli k98k with a dou45 receiver. Barrel has scratched out waffen marks so I guess the put an insert into the barrel and reworked it to 7.62. Great shooter that’s my second favorite shooting milsurp right behind my type 38 carbine. Honestly prefer these weird postwar rifles to just plane German ones, the postwar use is fascinating

Possibly I'm just imagine it. But at 2:10 in the video I saw a figure 8 on the receiver ring under the yugo crest. I read a while ago it's possible that the previously scubed stamps can show tru that way. If thats true and that's the case. I would argue that this is a 1938 production receiver in your mauser.

I love the Mauser family but in my personal opinion, the K98k isn’t the best of the bunch. Atleast in terms of 8mm guns. I think the K98Az of WWI was a better gun and the Vz24 is even better than both of them. However I think the pinnacle of Mauser short rifles has to be the Vz 24 in 7mm Mauser. 7x57 still has great balistics and isn’t a bruiser on the shoulder.

I've heard of the same opinions you have on the K98az and VZ24. I just got a Romy Contract 8mm VZ24 covered in cosmoline. Will get her all cleaned and ready for a future episode. Hoping to add a K98az to my collection as well. Thanks for watching!!

@@HangInThereCat Aah ok, yeah I actually always found the K98's sights to be great personally, but I've also got near 20/20 vision. It seems the sights were designed on the premise that the operator has no eyesight issues at all, which isn't the smartest solution considering that excludes a large percentage of the people who will be using it. Blockier sights are a lot more forgiving, and no doubt easier to be accurate with if you have eyesight issues. Anyway great shooting regardless, the results are impressive considering the ammo you were using, the Yugo stuff not being great.
