Just some food for thought in a statement: cultural differences in exYU are very minimal. We hear the same music, food for the most part is the same, social activities were regional based with minimum oscillations etc. A typical European based culture in every day social asspect. Different religions were never really a problem as most of exYugos were culturally religious (tops 15%-20% of exYugos were religiously religious meaning, they practiced the religion based on its actual teaching). TRUE problem in exYU is and always was NATIONALISM and nothing else! Culture and religion were hijacked by nationalist as a tool, not as the reason for a conflict. Orthodox church is not propagating to blow up mosques or catholic churches, nationalist do. Raping, ethnic cleansing, plundering, war crimes are not teaching of any religion but nationalism and its apetite for domination.

To Mauser collector's, Yugo Mauser rifles are the bottom of the barrel in collectability and that is bull shit. The Russians butchered their captured Mausers. Parts, screws and misaligned parts are very common on Russian Mausers. The Yugoslav Mausers are much better put together. All parts are installed, minus the front site hood as it gets lost slot of times, and many captured examples where rebarrelled prior to service. I have a Yugo Capture and the rifle shoots like a laser in accuracy. The barrel and bore are shiny and bright. If you can even find any Yugo Mauser anymore I suggest people grab it.

@Mike B I discovered something interesting about my K98 Yugo. Had id disassembled last night and noticed the serial number under the barrel which was 622 and there we some numbers that matched on the receiver and barrel. So it turns out I have a Pre war KAR98K with a original barreled receiver that has a pristine bore . The bolt body has the serial number 732 under the bolt handle and 619 on the floor plate.

First centerfire rifle I ever bought was a Yugo M47/47. I didn't care for the straight bolt handle so i bought an M48 bolt body from Numrich, stole the cocking knob assembly and extractor from the 24/47 bolt, popped both on and it worked perfectly. Good headapacing, smooth action, and a decent a bolt handle that is much more comfortable to me. That being said, I still have the original bolt just so if or when I go to sell it, it can be in all original condition.

For some reason and I am not sure why, I have seen this twice, once with my m48 once with a friends m48 where when operating the bolt, the bolt stop/release screw head breaks off clean. The rifle can still be operated, however you cant get the rest of that screw out without removing the stock. As I said I'm not sure as to why this happened and maybe those were just a wild coincidence. But one thing I learned is that the german k98 bolt stop/release screw will work on the yugo m48 no problem. I hope this maybe will help another person if they run into this issue.

I just bought an M48A and I'm waiting for its delivery to my gun shop. While, yeah, milsurp collecting has become more niche than it was a few years ago, personally I think a Yugo Mauser aint a bad place to start. I snagged the aforementioned M48A for a little under $600. By way of comparison, back in '06 I picked up an 1895 Chilean Mauser for $300. Everything in my collection has averaged under $600 b/c I'm not the type that needs a pristine Kar 98 or Mosin sniper. As with everything: to each his own, right?

On M48, bolt is shorter a bit compared to Kar 98k and its action is also shorter, obviously. Also, overall rifle length is shorter slightly compared to the "original". Shortest way to tell the difference between variants of M48? If it only says M48, that is oldest, but most high quality and "luxury" model. Later models (M48A and B) only had modifications in the sense of making it cheaper to produce. They work the same, though, but the overall look and feel are... Meh... Also, as you stated: very accurate!

@@MikeB128 It's kind of a weird word pronounced like 'Aha' (г being cyrillic 'h'/'g') that can kind of express a few things. It'd be a famous helmet though, because there's a war propaganda music video from the 90's that shows a serb soldier wearing the helmet I'm referring to, and it's kind of become iconic. Also, the fact that some people saw 'ага' as being 'allah' since g/h letter looks like upside down L, and incorrectly claim that it proves that "the serbs were the real muslims", just making it more of a 'meme' helmet. It was sloppily painted in the same red colour paint as the one you're wearing, which made me ask.
