Their peak was 1990 - 1992. Wonderful individuals, they should have been in Euro'92 in Sweden. Not unfairly disqualified, like they were. Are Israel disqualified? No, were the Ukraine disqualified? No, it was because of a western / German / Nato hatred of Yugoslavia. Im from Ireland, by the way. They would have won it, I feel, as they had the most impressive qualifying campaign, only second to France's one.

What are you talking about? They were in the middle of a civil war.. the players in the squad said they wouldn't play with each other, and some even threatened to kill Serb players. Slovenia, Croatia, and Bosnia were already independent by the time the tournament kicked off. What have Ukraine and Isreal got to do with the Yugoslavia civil war, and as a fellow Irishman, what the f@*k has our nationality got to do with any of this??????

I think they'd have beaten England in the group and at least drawn with France. Sweden were underestimated by England and France. Do you think they'd have had a good chance of winning the 1994 World Cup or Euro 96?

@pak8606 Very difficult to say. Sure, France were raging hot favourites to win Euro' 92 because they hadn't even lost a match in their whole qualifying campaign. I think they only dropped 1 point. A draw I think against Czechoslovakia. France was a complete flop in Euro'92 tournament.

Увек је у лоше играо тј био неефикасан изузев пар утакмица са слабијим екипама. Није заслужио да игра према претходном учинку, али је ,,морао" да игра. Брат Зоран тек није заслуживао место у репрезентацији. Али као и увек кључ, политика, клубашење, итд. Хаџибегић и Равнић скривили неколико голова. Играли и даље квалификације. Ивковић(иако ми није био баш омиљени) бранио одлично против Ираца, али опет клупа. Шкоро такође. Мислим да Равнић и Радача поред Омеровића никако нису могли да буду у репки. Има тога још. Али ...

@Strangeman1989 Actually, I'm right, absolutely right. The team was still unified right up to April 1992. Bosnians, etc, they were playing for the Yugoslavia they wanted, not the one that Germany, Nato, and the Nationalist government in Belgrade wanted. You could say the first cracks in Yugoslavian unity started after the brilliant leader, Tito's death in 1980. Big-time cracks started emerging in November 1987 in Kosovo, followed by the riot in Zagreb in May 1990. I know my stuff on Yugoslavia. I've been studying this since the 1980s.

​@@limanskipark021 War cause by few Bosnian Serbs (and Serbians), not by few Bosnian Croats or Croatians. You didn't save us, Croats, instead you saved Serbs from Italian invasion against Croatia. If you save us, Croatua would be officially independent and international recognized (from Serbia) before officially join Serbia to form Yugoslavia and keep our autonomy.

I remember that 1-4 loss against England coz it was my 9th birthday and we (albanians) all expected that Vokri would play that day...and in the end it was heartbreaking!! And i think Yugoslav youth team lost 5-1 against England the day before.

They should have beaten Argentina in the 1990 World Cup Quarter Final, before it got to penalties, they were much the better team in normal time, I think they would have taken out the Italians in the semi final in Naples. And they MOST DEFINITELY would have beaten a very poor West Germany side in the final, as revenge for the 4-1 lose they suffered at the hands of the Germans in round 1 of the group phase in Milan.

They definitely deserved to beat Argentina in the Quarter Final. Even with 10 men for 90 minutes they played well. Argentina didn't make any real effort to win even with an extra man, and Yugoslavia didn't just sit back and defend. Whether they'd have beaten Italy in the Semi Finals or West Germany in the final is debatable, but the Germans went off the boil a bit after their blistering start.
