What I love about curses especially Mahito is his reasoning. It’s just instinct, I can’t hate him for being himself, it’s like hating a lion because it kills. Also, seeing Mahito as the mirror for humanity darkness is so much fun

I like to think of their dynamic like Batman vs Joker. They both stand at the top of their own ideals&when they interact someone close to the protagonist dies or gets a life changing injury like with batgirl&robin/nanami&nobara.

“EnemyStandUser, your insightful commentary significantly deepened my appreciation for the video. Mahito undeniably stands out as a compelling antagonist in Yuji’s journey, introducing a necessary darkness that intricately weaves into the complexity of the narrative. The dynamic interplay between Mahito and Yuji forms the core of this captivating storyline. Todo Aoi, as Yuji’s brother, contributes an intriguing layer, with his ‘We are the exception’ speech proving to be a particularly poignant moment. Hanami’s astute observation regarding Mahito as a mirror to humans adds a profound layer to the narrative. Your reflections on Mahito’s perspective aligning with Yuji’s understanding of curses and the interconnected fate of humanity are both profound and thought-provoking.” Thank you, my brother, for your detailed video great work Jordan.

The whole “Mahito is a mirror” part is shown multiple times after it was stated. He sassed Nobara right back, he screamed at Yuji even though he was telling him not to scream and with Nanami he was just calmly talking, because that’s how Nanami was at the time.
@kanyerahming Жыл бұрын
That statement was referring to the death that humans fear, not just a mirror in general
@scarlletnull2811 Жыл бұрын

@kanyerahming Жыл бұрын
@@scarlletnull2811 I’m saying I don’t think he mimics them at all tho that would be pretty cool if that was intentional. I think he was just yelling at Yuji bc he was so hype to finally fight him and chill with Nanami since as he said, they “go way back.” I don’t remember him being sassy to Nobara.

mahito is one of the best written characters imo. He is sort of in a state of sadistic enlightenment, like as you mentioned at the beginning of the video, he can toy with life as he just sees it as it is, as the flow, its just there. This is pretty in line with Buddhist philosophy, and other prominent philosophy, but what is not shared is the view on human compassion. Great sages such as the Buddha usually implore the idea of being kind to humans and practicing human compassion, but mahito is the opposite. Because he knows the true nature of what life is as a curse, he toys with it. Such an interesting foil to yuji's character and an incredibly twisted villain.

I always thought mahitos final words were also meant for kenjaku that mahito knew he would be betrayed the entire time by kenjaku, since after all…he was born of humans.

I love JJK (and Mahito) because of its heavy emphasis on philosophical idealism, while still balancing the Shonen aspect of it all. It's not as heavy handed with its messaging as something like Attack on Titan, yet it also isn't as linear as say, Dragon Ball. There's this perfect balance within the narrative, which is fitting since so much of it is based off general Buddhism. Mahito in a way could be nihilism personified; life inherently having no meaning or direction, with moral principles simply being childish ideals we hold onto. Meanwhile Yuji does remind me of nihilism's supposed opposite, existentialism. Existentialism being that which emphasizes the existence of the individual person as a free and responsible agent determining their own development through acts of the will. Yuji at the end of his bout with Mahito defines himself as one who is simply meant to kill curses no matter what, and through sheer will alone he will accomplish this, and he will kill Mahito no matter how many times he comes back. If Mahito could've broken Yuji, it might've proven that one's will has no inherent value or meaning in anything. Everything is just an empty meaningless existence. However, with Yuji defeating him despite everything Mahito threw at him, it leaves that philosophical clash more open ended. Perhaps the will of the individual does hold greater power than we realize, which can shape the course of their reality and bring their personal beliefs into a measurable and justified form of existence.

It's fascinating that neither Yuji or Mahito fought a human being that is just as evil or even more diabolic than a cursed spirit. My prime candidate would be Naoya Zenin.

Akutami once said that the works of Togashi really influenced his own writing, and I can absolutely see that in someone like Mahito. To follow that thread, I see a lot of similarities between Mahito and the Chimera Ants. The Ants were animals who basically absorbed aspects of whatever they ate, so when they started eating Humans, the end results were horrifying. You had Chimera Ants that were sadistic, dogmatic, and prideful, but also capable of understanding beauty and in some cases, learning to seek meaning in the world and live lives separate from their creators' intentions. With the Disaster Curses and other Special Grade Curses being manifestations of things people are afraid of, it makes sense for Mahito to be as messed up as he is. This is a monster who was essentially created from every crime and misdeed the human race has come up with. He knows we're all capable of awful things; he knows it because his very existence is proof. The demon equivalent to a bunch of true crime documentaries Frankensteined into a man. No wonder he wants to wipe us all out. Mahito didn't ask to be born, but if he is as the human race made him, then he's going to pay us back in full. And his relationship with Itadori is so fascinating because of this. Itadori's someone who, even now in the manga, has such an unflappable sense of right and wrong and a commitment to protecting as many people as possible. When Mahito meets him, he sees that as a load of garbage and spends the first half of the series calling his bluff. Mahito of all people knows there's a beast inside all of us, and he keeps pushing Itadori's buttons because he wants to see what kind of maniac he can make if he just keeps pushing him. And unfortunately for Mahito, he succeeds. Instead of driving Yuji Itadori to becoming a reckless, cold-hearted psychopath, he ends creating Jujutsu Sorcerer Yuji Itadori. Part of that is because of who Itadori surrounded himself with, and to his credit, he does rally a strong cadre of allies to pull him out of his darkest moments. But Itadori's own character bolsters him against everything thrown at him the best of all. Itadori is still Itadori after everything Mahito put him through, only now he's come to terms with the beast inside him. And he Has to come to terms with it; Mahito has killed and mangled hundreds of people, including his friends. But he's not going to play Mahito's game the way he wants him to. What I saw in that scene where Itadori beats Mahito and chases him down was Itadori admitting that, yeah, he does have a monstrous side to him: but only Mahito will ever know its wrath.
