Nah, if anything, only Chie felt bad, apologized or helping out for anything. The Teddie at Junes was just the girls startled heat of moment gag once time. It was also Yukiko's fault. Chie already went helping Yu and Yosuke out whenever they needed extra help at Junes like busy summer week 8/15 already made up for it. At the beginning after dvd was just Yosuke ram himself at the table edge, more said in jp ver: 俺のも割れそう･･･つ、机のカドが、 直に･･･ Other times are Yukiko and Rise. Yukiko smack Yosuke and Kanji when they don't deserve it. And in hot spring, it was Yukiko's fault at timing and Rise who told them bot to apologize. Naoto didn't, it was Chie who said the girls went too far on the boys when other side doesn't deserve it "Ah crap...i think we went too far with them". Or pageant when Yosuke signed the girls without permission and when the girls confront about it, Yosuke light goading it and Kanji screamed at Naoto's face to make her join it, Rise prompt the girls to sign the boys, Yukiko pressure Kanji. Only Chie apologized for the group in night conversation 2/11 because she thought everyone was excited and had fun as friends (But that cross-dressing pageant got everyone really excited! I did feel kind of guilty, but the spectacle was so worth it). (Like Yukari worried for Junpei's life in Chidori's arc or apologized when she slipping lighten mood joke at Junpei's panic). Yosuke and Teddie peek into the girls bath at the end. Yosuke, Teddie started the boys to infiltrate the girls's room in middle of night then Kanji, Teddie jumped on the girls. That's just straight up sex offense thing. Also it's just exact same platonic siblings friends at most dynamic and fact is they all would never be into each other in Persona Eikichi, Lisa in p2 and Junpei, Yukari in p3 and Yosuke, Chie in p4. They're all friends. Like in Namatame scene, when Naoto, Kanji, Yosuke tried to murder a man and tried to provoke their friends into it. Chie, Yukiko, Rise tried to stop them because they're friends. The SEES develop bonds through hardships trauma and the IT is goofy. I take none of this seriously, this is just pointless.

The boys in p4 might as well being on serial sexual harasser registry. "Infiltrating the girls's room in the middle of night", and Kanji did sexual harass someone while infiltrating it and gaslighting Naoto into the pageant; Yosuke who provoked the idea about it all and more. With Yosuke, he did that to like everyone and everyone also acting the same, like calling Naoto "useless" or anyone who worried about exam "losers". Yukiko, Rise, Kanji, Teddie, Naoto did the same, you name it, everyone did slapstick it, say who doesn't? Basically joke at this point, crazy i know. I don't think i need to say more of this. Ryuji might be just 15% of this level. And like i said Chie actually going out of her way helping people out and already making up for it, protecting her friends or shown she worry for them and such. But hey provoking your friends and stand for murder is totally the principal of friendship. Rise is an unapologetic asshole in hot spring scene; Yukiko is also and a murderer; Naoto is a murderer and stalker (admitted in her SL); Kanji is a murderer, sexual harasser, gaslighting bully; Yosuke is a murderer, sexual harasser, almost all of these. I can do the rag sentence to anyone. All I have seen average persona fans just being all "my favorite murderer, genocider and sex offender is better than yours" even tho it's bloody pointless. If you can get over murder and sexual harasser or idk genocide. - And again i don't actually take any of this seriously, nor should anyone, i know persona fandom is embodiment of double standard but i actually find p4 characters endearing and precious friends siblings type to each other, they are all good teenagers, but yall just ruining it for me, imagine playing this light-hearted game and i gotta say all of this. When you talking to someone, just gotta talking the same i guess.

I don’t think Junpei is written very well in the games truth be told. His saving grace is Portable’s social link in FeMC (never let anyone say FeMC isn’t a major selling point for Portable) and the manga. Also, I think Fuuka is just dull. Otherwise, these are some of my favorites in the series. Yukari is actually tied with Yoshizawa for my favorite Persona character.

Personally, Yukari ended up being my favourite Persona 3 character. She felt the most realistic out of the cast and she was the one mostly progressing the story. I thought her jealousy towards Mitsuru was pretty justified, I mean since Mitsuru's family's organisation is the one that got her dad killed. And even that conflict resolves itself and is probably one of the neatest arcs throughout Persona 3. Yukari had a nice character development especially with Mitsuru, where she finally learnt to leaern from Mitsuru instead of envy her without a proper reason. This is all sort of a brainfart, but basically I think that Yukari's petty attitude and envy added to her character arc nicely, where she leaent to accept her situation and become more understanding of others. Oh and also I loved Yukari because she DID call people out on their bullcrap. Sometimes she was mislead or jumping to conclusions, but when she hit the mark it felt like a real "you have some explaining to do" moment. Cheers to Yukari for not letting anyone's bullcrap slide.

I think Yukari is a character written to show what pain does to good people, and bring out their ugly side. At the end of the day, while she can be a bitch, she genuinely has a good heart and good intentions. She jabs at Junpei all the time, probably because she legitimately didn’t really like him very much. She saw him a moron who has nothing better to do than play video games and chase women. But they do slowly start to became friends, and her perception of him changes big time when she sees how much he cared for Chidori, even someone like him can think about other people and be there for people he cares about. The whole thing with Mitsuru, you were spot on about why any girl at Gekkoukan would be jealous of Mitsuru. She is; beautiful, rich, powerful, pretty much owns the school as well as port island, smart, etc. And she pretty much throws Yukari along with Junpei and Makoto into a giant tower full of very deadly demons against their will. She senses there’s more to the dark hour than she’s lead to believe, and probably felt like she was nothing but a mere pawn to Mitsuru and the whole Kirijo group. As for the answer, I can agree that she isn’t a likable character. But I think that was the point. I didn’t necessarily *LIKE* her in The Answer, but I understand *WHY* she was the way she was. Throughout The Journey, she hadn’t fully gotten over her fathers death until late game. But it happened 10 years ago, so it’s an old wound that hadn’t healed. The death of Makoto, which I believe The Answer was written with the fact that her social link was maxed out, is a fresh wound that broke her and she’s working to pick the pieces back up. Yeah, she got over her fathers death, but that doesn’t mean the next time someone you love dies, you’ll have no need to grieve and feel no pain when it happens. I think it’s unfair that people say The Answer “ignored her character development”. I think she was written how she should’ve been written in the answer. As for the jealousy of Aigis receiving his powers, like I said I think it was written with her social link being maxed out. Imagine your significant other has something of value, they die, but instead of you receiving it from their inheritance, they give it to their ex, or a best friend that is the same sex as you. I guarantee you wouldn’t walk away happy. But that does beg the question why didn’t Fuuka or Mitsuru feel that way, despite Mitsuru always having feelings for Door-kun even before the social link started. I do not have an answer to that, no pun intended.

deal with the dark hour alone and when she was saved she was amazed and thankful of the person who saved her life and was kinda crushing on him when he woke up and was worried but still didn’t want to admit her feelings about him her she wanted to test him to see if he was like her and so she was thankful for him to join sees but with Junpei she argues with him and he had to play baby sitter or make sure those 2 don’t fight too much and when their at school she hangs out with him either by picking flowers with her or they deal with yukari mom and yukari asks his opinion about her choices and minato says to give her a chance which she will try but doesn’t feel ready yet and when we go to the love hotel she was embarrassed but hits him but forgives him as he was possessed just like her so nothing really changed aside from both agreeing that incident stays between them and when we get to the beach scene when Junpei was doing a competition minato has a choice of choosing yukari and even Junpei ships them or I guess thought they would be a good couple and when the edited video of Yukari dad happened she ran away upset of trusting Mitsuru and her company she wanted to be alone and not be a burden to them both minato didn’t agree she was a valuable team member and a great friend he cared about her and she was still upset she was pretty jealous of how minato can solve his problems while she cant and just complains about how he doesn’t know her but he does they both had a dark past with tragedy and she thanked him for helping her clear her mind and when they hugged they felt love but it ended soon with Junpei and the next day she was jealous of aigis despite knowing what she means as she is only minato body guard and is only protecting what’s inside him and cares about him because aigis felt guilty of putting ryoji in simply because she had no choice as the monster would escape and cause more damage and worries about it escaping from minato and her words gave the wrong message and she didn’t want her friend she likes being taken so she yells at her for making the class think that and it caused a love triangle rumor which minato didn’t care as he had other things to worry about and when minato got to beating up the thugs she was thanking him but also complained about saving her as she wanted to be dependent and not be weak as her mom and yelled at minato for not listening to her because her fear of being like her mom got the best of her but he made her calm down and they continued being friends until one day when minato was invited to her room and she gave him a bracelet that she kept to remember her dad and talk to it as a way of believing her dad can talk to her through the strap and minato thanks her but she also wanted to confess her love maybe she thought it would be a separate problem like she can date him and she continues to ignore her mom and have happiness with minato and they both had fun doing events like the movies and festival and other events while ignoring the bad stuff and she thinks the relationship won’t go to long and they break up and be friends but nope mr idc decides to try and help her more as they spent time together in combat and at school they get to Christmas and they give gifts and talk about how their relationship impacted their lives and with the end of the world they discussed their future and yukari finally gave in and was confident enough to talk to her mom and asked minato to be their to help and when he died she was upset she wanted him back she would trade anything to get him back and fought aigis for the key but she realized he wouldn’t want this and stoped and even though she still waits for him she will be strong to protect her friends no matter what so basically she was sensitive of how she wanted her life to be but mr perfect the messiah came and destroyed the doubt in her mind by just being a friend and her crushing on him so yeah point is it’s just genetics she felt pain and misery without him and couldn’t be angry at him as she knew this was the only way to save all their lives the man without a family saved his new family and the world continued so I guess she did have the right though really I refer if yukari and aigis teamed up to save him and maybe Fuuka and Mitsuru while the guys refused it and Fuuka back down and stayed neutral as she missed him too but didn’t want her friends to fight so the 3 fought as Mitsuru also did it for paying back for yukari but also missed him as well as minato basically got her out of a false love and how Mitsuru feels about minato as he helped her out of problems she dealt with losing her father and dealing with the company problems so yeah that’s how I would envision it also I wish minato shadow was more talkative and being a heartless monster saying harsh things while using his voice and as a way for the characters to see how he suffered being their savior

Looking at the Reddit comment, it's interesting but I do have one issue with it. In both Final Fantasy X and Tales of Symphonia, the "destined waifu needs to sacrifice themselves to save the world plot" turns out to be a lie created by the villains, to serve their ulterior motives. (In fact in both cases, the sacrifice actually keeps the world doomed) In P3, the sacrifice IS the only way to save the world. This might be why Yukari rejecting the sacrifice comes off as irrational, but rejecting the sacrifice in the other two stories doesn't. At the same time, I feel like there's also a bit of a double-standard going on, it has a point about how male characters risking the world for their waifu are praised, but reversing the genders gets the character hated.

Even in the female route she's still got the core problem of treating her personal loss as an excuse to be an a-hole to those around her. And it's pretty natural to go from a (let's be real honest about it here, VERY FORCED love interest for Minato/Makoto) to a (again being very honest here VERY Gender Based Societal Norms Rooted best friend for Minako/Kotone). And because the overarching main story of Persona 3 was not written with the female protagonist in mind the transition from a forced love interest to a forced best friend isn't even handled particularly well or convincingly if you analyze it without rose-tinted female empowerment/feminist victory/girl power goggles.

@sethbxtch They kind of address the lack of convincing friendship between Junpei and Minato for P3 Reloaded with the new scenes intended to flesh out the bond between Minato and the members of SEES, but even in the original game Junpei being frenemies with Minato is specifically there for the sake of his own character's arc (which does IMHO feel like it comes in two halves that don't necessarily gel together, the inferiority complex with Minato and the love story with Chidori). I also think the fact Minato is a character who has such a difficult time letting others in (he's great at being there for people, but opening up to them in exchange is mostly beyond him), works in the favor of selling Junpei being his friend, because as long as he's not in one of his foul moods due to his inferiority complex or busy Junpei's always trying to get Minato to open up. Yukari by contrast (partly because they have her as a romanceable option, partly because of her own personality) doesn't really approach Minato in any way that screams 'friend'. There's never really any moments between them that are not on some level underlined with romance. Even for P3 Reloaded the stuff they do together for the new bonding scenes is so blatantly romance coded. In the main story events each month she mainly exists to fawn over Minato (not to the over the top borderline cheerleader degree that Rise does with Souji in P4 of course, but fawning nonetheless) and put Junpei down and scoff at how perfect she thinks Mitsuru is. To be fair to Yukari though I think this has more to do with the trope/idea that a girl and a boy can't truly be just friends, and is also definitely not exclusive to her among the females in the party.

I actually really like Yukari's storyline in The Answer. Because The Answer is a story about grief and Yukari is the one who is grieving the most. She is irrational in that story, but that is the point. She is grieving because she lost somebody she loved and that grief explodes in the story. The fights with all the party members are more an expresion of grief than anything else. Everybody is in pain and they are trying to get those feelings out. And that is why she works perfectly in that story. She is one of the most important characters of that narrative.

I think another contributing factor is that a lot of people played P3 when they were much younger, and Yukari is the only openly hostile character in the game. In retrospec its easy to look back and realize the nuance to her character.

Yukari Is my favorite "human" girl from Persona. Aigis is probably the best overall character and definitely the most unique of the series, but there's something about Yukari I really like. She's definitely my favorite romantic interest, because it felt like it made sense to the main story because even if you don't do her social link, there's still some foreshadowhing about she liking the protagonist. I also like the idea that she grew up to become the pink power ranger haha. And yes... I appreciate the fan service from the motel mission.

I'll never say that she acts rationally, or that she's the most likeable character in P3, but I really like her character design, the voice actor did a really good job at giving her a really fitting tonality and inflection to her words, she carries a shitload of baggage but still tries to make things better for both herself and other people at the same time. She rarely just takes shit lying down, even when that puts her on the wrong side of the argument, which I find personally pretty compelling. She's pretty great! In fact I'd say she's probably my third-favourite character in P3, behind Junpei and Mitsuru.

The bad character thing could be easily said to be fact in the long term because she never outgrows the person she is in her debut game even though years have passed by the time she starts making cameos in side games. She stays that girl who has no qualms using her father's passing as an excuse to treat those around her like trash, then apologize, but instead of learning from the mistake, rinses and repeats. Any character growth and character arc she's meant to have had promptly falls flat on its face in the long run because of this. And the irony is that is also very true to what it means to be human. Not everyone actually ends up becoming a better person in adulthood than they were as a teenager.

I strongly agree she’s one of the few characters in P3 I actually like. I like the fact that she’s actually allowed to have flaws outside of her persona evolution unlike every other girl character in the game. Also yeah I like the fact she sometime goes to far as someone who banters with there friends similarly to she does I also go to far sometimes. Her and junpei’s relationship is also one of the best in the whole franchise. You can clearly tell they’ve been friends for a very very long time and there banter is the best part of the game’s dialogue. While I think her arc of accepting her dads death was just a little bit to rushed for my liking it’s still a pretty good arc and is one of the better ones in the game.

16 year old girl whom's father died a decade ago but she still uses his death as an excuse to be a mean-girl to everyone around her. To characters who all have personal tragedies of their own, many of which she's actually aware of but still acts intensively over. The protagonist is a character who has lost both parents. Yukari still has her mother but has the audacity to preach to the protagonist about how they're the same because of their parental losses twice throughout the game. She really thinks it appropriate to tease Junpei shortly after Chidori's death, while the looming threat of Nyx and the end of the world exists to boot. And she's scary levels of insensitive towards Mitsuru after the death of her father even though she knows exactly what that loss feels like and Mitsuru never treated her that way over the loss of her dad. And it'd be one thing if she was just being insensitive about it, but she's also super smug about the fact Mitsuru's dad is dead, the truth about the Shadows and Tarturus, and her own father's innocence. I kept waiting for the game to knock her off her high horse, but it never really did.

P3 makes it really obvious that Yukari has trouble getting close to anyone due to her mistrust of others regarding her fathers death, that is until Fuuka and the protag join SEES who are more or less in the same boat she is. And when she finally does open up to the protagonist she finally does go for the hug and it feels earned. As for her dynamic with Junpei, it's the typical tsundere vs class clown dynamic we've seen a million times and the 2 play off each other very well. For me there's 3 things/scenes that make me dislike Yukari. First that scene where she drags you and Junpei into a confrontation with some thugs, and just ignores the two of you protesting it. Secondly is how she only takes issue with Fuuka possibly being coerced into joining SEES. Not her dumbass classmate. Not an actual dog. Not an orphan who, as far as we know, only went to the dorms for actual schooling reasons. Not a literal child. Nope, the only person she feels got forced into this unfairly was the only one who was actually given a choice in the matter. Lastly, we got the Answer. It's not just because she's willing to risk the apocalypse, it's that she's willing to risk the apocalypse for a dude who cheated on her with like, 6 girls.

The reason why she rejects the hug in her social link is because that's seen as something couples do, at least in Japan, and it's before she confesses to you. her interactions with everyone else, especially Junpei, isn't seen as bullying or being too aggressive. It's seen as more of "friends teasing each other." Of course, that's what it's like in Japan, not NA. Her aggression could be more from distrust. She joined Gekkoukan mainly to "spy" on a school owned by the Kirijo group, whom her dad worked for. She wanted to know the truth about what happened to her father. Also, let's not forget that it was her father who took the blame for the explosion, which is why people shunned both her and her mother. Like I said, it's distrust. She's pretty popular in Japan. Heck, she's Soejima's second favorite Persona character.

Yukari is a great character all throught the story, probably one of my favs characters, she gives dynamic to the story, creates conflict, she is great. The answer (which im really glad that it wasn´t included in the remake), completely destroys the whole purpose and message of the game, it just doesn´t make sense, the whole point of the story is that each character learns how to acknowledge the beauty of live and how it can suddenly end, each character gets a moment in which they lost a loved one one, and they evolve their personas because of it. Yukari literally gets a character arc in which she learns to forgive Mitsuru and completely changes as a person. I don´t think the fact that Yukari is such a b*tch in the answer is particularly her fault, is probably that the writers didn´t knew any other character that could be the antagonist, because it doesn´t make sense for any of them to be, just Yukari, because she is known to be confrontational throught the story (again she gets character development), and that's it.

I think what gets to people isn't Yukari herself, but rather the lack of options people who dislike her must deal with. Despite the first act of the game being geared towards Fuuka on SLinks, as far as main story goes most of it is Yukari. Then the second act is when Yukari gets her SLink unlocked, things widen up a bit (especially with Aigis joining the party) but overall whenever the story needs a main girl it's her. Even in the 3rd Arc most people will be too invested in Yukari at that point to pay attention to Mitsuru when her link opens up. Dialogue choices often don't help either, as you can seldom (if ever) call Yukari out on her BS, shut her up when she's being annoying, poke fun at her or anything in that vein. Like, with Joker and Makoto it's easier to deal with since there's way less forced coupling and more moments when you can sass or poke fun at her. (FISTS OF JUSTICE) Personally, I never had much problem with her mommy issues or the Hug Incident (although I will agree that reversing the arcana was too much) but her getting away with barely any reprimanding after that reckless stunt in the Fuuka Investigation (ya know, when Shinji saves them) gets to me. If they wanted to appeal to specific tastes, then why the poorly-defined silent protag?

While I agree with most of these points, (Yukari is one of my favourite characters in the series) I think people's reason for disliking Yukari because of her social link is a little more justifiable than what you present. If you remember, Yukari snaps at Makoto and chastises him for coming to help her before you are ever given the choice to hug her or not. This comes across as very unreasonable to most people, as Makoto went out of his way to help her and only did what most would do in the situation (iirc her reaction is the same whether you chose to beat up the thugs or just call for help). Hugging her reversing her social link and causing her to refuse to speak to Makoto entirely only worsens players' perception of her, but it's not the crux of the issue. However I will say that Yukari's reaction, although childish and unfair, is somewhat understandable given her character; she is simply taking out her anger at the situation out on Makoto and is frustrated that she couldn't fend for herself as she had endeavoured to. This kind of emotional and irrational outburst also serves for a strong precedent to her behaviour in The Answer. Regarding her argument in The Answer, while I agree that it is very poor and that the conflict on the whole feels forced and contrived, in my opinion there's a bit more to than lazy writing. I think there is a sense that they owe it to Makoto to take even a small chance to save him, and that because none of SEES understand what actually happened to him, they don't truly know how likely it would be that they could save him without endangering the world. As we know, and as it is revealed to the characters in The Answer's ending, saving him would be impossible due to the nature of his sacrifice, and understanding this Yukari finally accepts his death. On the other hand, I not only agree with you that Yukari's regular bashing of Junpei is mostly harmless, but I also think it is completely justified most of the time as many of Junpei's comments come close to sexual harassment, and Yukari's retorts are fairly tame by comparison. Overall it's no surprise to me that Yukari is such a divisive character. As someone who has experienced similar emotional outbursts to Yukari in the past and is close to others who are also given to that kind of behaviour, she was a very realistic and relatable character that has stuck with me, but she's also arguably not a very pleasant person in many instances.

Persona 3 is my favorite video game of all time. I've beaten it upwards of 20 times. So, I wanna say something about Yukari and the hate she gets. 1. Regarding the hug, let me tell you as a woman - if anyone came NEAR me that soon after I was almost assaulted I would react exactly the same way. 2. Yukari's attitude in The Journey is entirely rooted in the distrust she feels towards the Kirijo group, which stems from the trauma of losing her father. This whole GAME is about trauma - Junpei loses Chidori, Yukari lost her dad, Akihiko lost his sister and Shinji, Mitsuru was medically forced to Awaken and loses her dad, Ken lost his mom and watches Shinji get murdered, Aigis loses her reason for living and almost her humanity, Koromaru lost his owner...everyone in the cast reacts defensively, based on their trauma, but Yukari is the only one who gets shit for it because she's "bitchy." It's nonsense.

First at the hospital in the beginning of the game after the first full moon shadow battle, then after the protagonist goes after her during the trip to Yakushima where Mitsuru's father shows the group the footage of the final moments of Yukari's father. And far as I'm aware she never makes up with her mother so she's essentially spitting on Minato's grave in the long-run by continuing to take her surviving parent for granted simply because that parent tried to move on with her life sooner than Yukari thought was appropriate. The thing about the hug is very accurate, but then again the romance between Yukari and Minato/Makoto is extremely forced to begin with. It also mainly stems from her own direction not his which is awkward.

Yukari used is one of my favorite characters but I'll be the first to admit that I think she has a major attitude problem and while the majority of it is pointed at Jumpei, I still feel like she says things sometimes that are really uncalled for. Don't get me wrong like I said I do like her and I feel like Yukari is the most open when she's with SEES, I understand she has her own issues going on and that she was also suspicious of the Kirijo group as a whole, but she can be very confrontational. Also I kinda feel that holding the "Mr. Perfect" thing over the protagonist is kinda weird, especially since he mentioned it in a situation where Yukari got herself into trouble, if you want to argue that one person couldn't have taken out that group of thugs then fine, but the point I want to make is that Yukari isn't exactly the most capable person on the team, she doesn't think twice about jumping into a dangerous situation in which she is unprepared for. If you'll remember, it was Yukari who insisted that her Junpei and P3 protagonist went to a shady area widely known as a hotspot for thugs and when Junpei tried to reason with her to stop her from doing something so stupid, she snapped back at him as if he was the one in the wrong, let's be real here, if it wasn't for Shinjiro then the group would have been screwed, the same applies to the scene when Yukari was confronting 3 thugs, if MC wasn't there she would have been screwed, I highly doubt she would have called for help until it was too late considering she got upset when someone close to her did their best to help her out of a bad situation. I'll make myself clear again, I do like Yukari, I know she can be really nice and considerate of others, she's constantly making sure people don't feel like they are being forced to do things they don't want to do and in the case of Junpei I do believe she tried to lighten the mood since he obviously wasn't doing very good, she could have picked her words a little more carefully but the intent was there. (Also I don't know why but she has my favorite voice lines for the all out attack. Yukari is one of the only party members to never leave the party in every playthrough I did.) Hey I liked your video, I haven't played Persona 3 yet, but I never really got the hate with Yukari, granted I only have the experiences with her from the dance game, but I don't hate her. Though this is coming from someone who is kind of neutral on Yukari and never really hated her anyway, pretty much what I think is, all of the hate is coming from people who haven't been in her situation, and have a hard time imagining themselves in her situation. As we all know, our past experiences are what forge who we are in the present, and on into the future. Yukari's father that she loved died to a man that one of her tentative allies is the granddaughter of; guilt by association, while stupid, is very much a thing; her mother seemingly abandoned her father, and on top of this, being in the stressful situation where you are one of the only people who can literally save the FREAKING WORLD from Death while everyone else is able to just blissfully go about their lives unaware of everything going on. It may be a video game, but people have to think about, what if they were actually in this situation? Most everyone is happy to play the big hero, until the time comes that they actually have to. Even in her actions in The Answer, she always has been one to hold on to the past. She held on to her father and his death, and everything, and trying to move on to the future was largely was just trying to "fake it 'till she makes it." As for hypocrisy, I doubt anyone can honestly say that they're immune to such a thing. None of us are perfect or 100% consistent, ourselves, after all, no matter how much we try. I really don't think there's any reason for her not to hold on to the protagonist's death. Sometimes, when someone outright has to die for the greater good, as Makoto did, everyone who loved them will tell themselves that they didn't have to die. That there's always another way. In the case of Yukari's initial and ultimate Personas, realistically, I would not be surprised if as a cow, Io would long to be human again, and as Isis, at times very much think back on her life in general, all the crap she's been through, and wonder about, "What if things had gone differently?"

To everyone who hates how she acts in The Answer, allow me to remind you about the stage of grief known as bargaining. Literally nobody talks about this simple point that makes it have so much more sense, and besides she thinks more emotionally than rationally. People need to understand that people think differently than others and actually grow up for once.

Getting a chance of saving the mc (even though we know would never be possible) makes her very emotional and irrational, which I think makes a lot of sense for her as a character. Wanting to get someone you cared about back no matter what you'd need to go through is usually a part of the process of grief to many people. But in yukaris case she faces a situation that no one ever finds themself in whilst dealing with loss. She actually has the choice to risk it all to get them back and that's why she is so unreasonable and hellbend on doing it. The execution wasn't the best but she had to let go of a real way to get back in time with a door to the past which in my opinion would be heavy on most in her position.

I personally really like Yukari, she feels incredibly human just like the other characters in the game. She is obviously feeling immense grief towards the death of the protagonist in the answer especially considering this is the second time someone she loved had died. People just don't like her because she "sounds evil" when talking in the answer and don't give a second thought to what she's actually saying, she has the power to save the protagonist but all of her friends are trying to stop her of course she would turn against them, she would do anything to bring him back even fight against her friends. She is clearly struggling with his death and is trying to move on and when she has to fight shadows again of course she doesn't want to do it again she's desperately trying to move on but the world is rubbing salt in her wound. After Aigis beats her she breaks down, she can't get over his death, she jealous of Aigis because she got the wild card power, Aigis remembered first, Aigis saw his last moments not her, Yukari wanted to be with him when he was dying she wanted to get the things Aigis has. She literally says that her and Aigis's promises to the protagonist were different, Aigis's when when he was alive and Yukari's was made holding his cold dead hand. I don't really remember seeing that much hate for Yukari outside of the answer it's just people don't seem to understand what being a human is they are probably just used to things being incredibly black and white in fiction. I love the characters in this game and think they are incredibly well written and to be honest people on Twitter are just dumb. I can't think of anything else to say I'm kind of just ranting so it probably doesn't make much sense to read, sorry you had to read this but this is how I feel.

i don't think it what she say...but how she say it. her words seem to always be laced with a bit of attitude,sarcasm or just spitefulness. not a lot mind you but enough that during the entire span of the game it start to "stack up". she has that mean girl attitude,and not everyone like that sort of thing. doesn't mean she isn't a well written character. but some people have more tolerance to that sort of stuff.

8:40 bro this part was heated. I had to go outside and have a breather, because I was holding my breath, seeing these guys break apart again. It broke my heart. Fighting them was not fun, but I had to do it. But in the end they all make up with each other. And yes, whenever there's adversity, there's always somebody in the group who suddenly cooks up an attitude and bitches like it's the end of the world. Some eventually grows out of it and becomes better friends, and some still retains the same characteristic. Thankfully, Yukari is the former. Which is why you shouldn't hate her for it, because it's normal.

Yukari losses her father with no goodbye and his death was shrouded in mystery. It took her 10 years to find the truth and move on then makoto dies the same way, mysteriously and without a goodbye. Her character regression makes sense

I think most people just don't like not flawless and realistic characters, just looks how much makoto from p5 is popular (She's is boring, she's is more flawless than mitsuru herself and is the most popular character of p5), the artist designer said himself that Yukari was designed to being the realistic girl, she can be bitchy but genuine and real.

I really liked Yukari during Persona 3, I played P3P first and I really enjoyed her character and arc, and she was my second favorite character behind Akihiko However, when I played P3FES, more specifically The Answer, it ruined her character for me in a lot of ways If they removed The Answer from the canon I would go back to loving her again, but I can’t help but look at her and think of her as a friend that I loved dearly while they hid their true colors, but that I can’t love anymore now that I know how evil and selfish they are

Has no one ever heard of "flawed characters are more believable?" What good is a character if they are perfect with no glaring issues? Even if its fiction, that's just not logical. Part of gaming is to insert yourself into the world presented to you. Even silent protags are not perfect. They tend to have their hardships and woes. Can't make characters with nothing for people to relate to. I mean even Yu Narukami had by far the least issues at the start of P4. He still bonds with Nanako since he's left alone a lot at home too and had to leave his school for a year. I'm just saying flawed characters are the most relatable. How can you relate to a do-no-wrong perfect individual? YOU CAN'T!

You know a detail I really admire about Yukari is how her dynamic with her mother is paralleled by how she reacts in the answer. This poor woman someone she loved and spent her life with in the cruelest way imaginable and in a desperate to avoid that grief pushed away the only person she had left, her own daughter until they finally reconcile at the end of Yukari's SL and face it together. Then we have Yukari who lost someone she truly loved, someone who changed her life ripped away in the harshest way imaginable and in a desperate attempt to hold onto him nearly pushed away everyone around her, but it's only when they reach out to her that she learns she is no longer alone and they would be there for her, just as she was for them. A lot of people call her a bitch and what's funny is, she does too but her heart was never in the wrong place. Yeah, I love this character she's easily one of the most humanised in the series. Yeah, I don't like her acting all coy when confronting Aigis but that's nowhere near enough to taint the amount of heart she gives.

Normally I'd agree with you BubbleTea and in this instance I absolutely do. Honestly, I would say out of all characters in The Answer, Yukari's reaction is probably the most genuine depiction of grief out of all of them because while Makoto may have understood the reason behind his sacrifice, these poor bastards didn't and it makes complete sense that if given the chance they'd do everything they could to save him. I think the guys on SEES reactions are honestly very weak and far to easily jump to the "let's move on" route, maybe it's because they didn't have Social Links with the guy? It's hard to say. In Yukari's case yeah she's irrational but in what world has grieving ever been rational, even in P5R we had a guy re-write all of existence solely because he couldn't face his own grief and wouldn't let anyone feel pain. The reason I adore Yukari is because for the most part is the most genuine, and P3P's own NG+ ending with her hits very hard as well.

i like the english dub, but i also have a feeling this dub makes she sound more... brat. playing with the japanese dub, you do get a feeling of she being more playful and not as brash with her friends. also, in general she has an outershell of her personality that is really defensive
