Best/worst girl is ALWAYS personal preference. You can explain every detail about Yukiko, there are still going to be people who just hate her. Conversely even if you Dump on Rise for a couple character traits there will still be people who adore her character and could explain her just as well as you did Yukiko.

That's quite true. I like Yukiko because of the all too real personal dilemma of family/social honor and tradition trumping personal freedom, how she strives to be more courageous in her life, and also what I think as her good chemistry with Yu. But, hey, family honor and inheritance is not exactly something that is common in the USA or Europe (unless you are, say, Prince Charles or a member of the Vanderblit family), so inevitably some of the English-speaking players would fail to understand that. I can also see how too subtle she comes across to some players. On the other hand, I personally think Naoto (and especially her social link) is relatively boring compared to the others, due to what I see as her relatively few in-universe flaws (and her improbable skill-to-age ratio) compared to the rest of the IT Team. Even there, however, I can see that she provides a much-needed narrative of her struggles in feminism (or more specifically, female representation in the workplace) and justice against the real killer in the main plot - a trait that Dojima eventually picks up.

Yukiko is a lovely character design, alongside many other characters within Persona. She's quite fond of in Japan, but overseas she's kinda underrated because of cultural clashing differences. In Japanese ver., Yukiko is portrayed as a traditionally picturesque beautiful girl (Japanese version of Snow White) that appears naive, manipulative and submissive at face value, which is why she's so popular at her school--she is seen as someone vividly fantasized as being "tamed," but the real layers start to unfold when looking deeper into her. She not only breaks stereotypical expectations in-game, but also general archetypes one would normally associate with her design, such as having a rather unusual mindset to things, oblivion to her cooking skills (and everyone's inability to call her out on it because she's so sweet to everyone) and infamously, having a strange sense of humor to the point of laughing fits. These oddities may seem goofy, but to Yukiko stans, that's part of what her so endearing and lovely to us. The ENG ver of Yukiko is my personal favorite; she is somewhat less polite with more of an edge to her. She's _still_ a sweetheart, but whereas the JP ver. subtly jabs at it, ENG Yukiko bluntly _shows_ she's not a pushover, and is more confident in herself overall. Plus, it's a real damn treat to hear the lovely Winn Lee go into a laughing fit over Yukiko's weird-ass humor 😂 I could probably write an essay on why Yukiko is a beautiful reminder of the awesome character development and designs within the Persona universe. I think a sad issue is a lot of people just see her (and pretty much the other girls too) as a "waifu," not realizing the true inner gravity of their struggles, resolutions and triumphs that make them the staple characters we come to know and love. Yukiko definitely isn't the worst girl, but then again, none of the Persona girls are. 🔥Long live the Amagi flame!🔥

Among the arguments revolving around Yukiko's status as worst girl, three stand out the most to me, regarless of alignment, due to them being reasonable enough: 1. She is the worst... Party Girl One of the major issues Persona 3 and 4 had (that 5 fixed for the most part) was that non-party S.Links/Confidants were weak and forgetable, if not downright annoying or hateable. If we look at ALL Female Links in P4, most people will agree that she's far from worst. 2. Ideal Japanese Surface Atlus often nails character depth and development, if not, they come pretty darn close. But Yukiko on a surface level seems to be Japan's ideal of Feminine Beauty (real-life japan, not anime japan) which can turn some on, but given Persona/Megaten's shtick is going above and beyond such cultural walls, it's easy to see why many fans get turned off. 3. Hiimdaisy's Comic People taking a gag/parody comic seriously shouldn't happen in this fanbase, yet it somehow does. The comic seems to mock Yukiko extra hard due to her shadow being the point where the whole "you're not me!" and "it's simbolic" start getting repetitive. To make things worst, it seems a number of newcomers found Persona through the comic, so they come around already contaminated by the mean-spirited jokes in that dub.

I always loved Yukiko. On my first playthrough, I LOVED HER. But I decided to romance Marie for reasons, and it hurted my heart to reject her. I loved her character, and she feels totally natural as a canonical romantic partner for Yu. For me, she deserves to be the true Lovers arcana. She really does,, For me, she feels just as natural like Ann in Persona 5. Both of them are truly underrated as characters and people don't wanna look into them in a deeper way other than superficial looks. She is not and she will never be worst girl for me. Edit: I recently finished romancing Yukiko on my New Game Plus route and I don't regret it at all. While I do love Marie, now that I look back at her romance route: It bored me. Yukiko's romance is really sweet and natural, which made me smile more than once. I still don't regret my statement about her being the true Lovers arcana, she and Yu are just goddamn sweet together.

Coming back to this video months later, all the shipping war nonsense aside, I don't think anyone has grasped not just Yukiko's character, but the game's focus as a whole as well as you. Maybe that's why Persona 4 is still revered as the best Persona game to this day with a lot of people, not just because of it's relatable cast, but the focus, that being with the media and what a cancer it can be with our every day lives, telling us how to think or feeding us lies about who people are, what they do or what they say. Fogging our perception of them and the world around us. Damn man, this is such an awesome video. Glad someone understands the game and Yukiko's character as a whole and why she's so great

Personally I don't mind all four female characters they do tend to have their own special sparkle that can appeal to different guys for example I believe Chie has the greatest strength out of all the girls I do tend to find it attractive in the real world. She comes in third. Rises has the greatest when it comes to expressing herself and is considered the beauty of the team. She is in fourth for me out of all girls Naoto is the woman with the strongest mind and is very brilliant not to mention she has a big rack. She is personally my second favorite. Yukiko I believe has the strongest heart. Although constantly tripping and falling she still try's to fight back. Sheis filled with hope and that's why I have always considered her to be my favorite by a mile.
