This is a good place to revise your basic guzheng skills. It show correct and improper plucking. What impress me most is the breathing exercise (at minute 6). I have yet to come across a book that teaches breathing. This reminds me of the tale where a yogi added power to kungfu by teaching the shaolin monks to incorporate the proper breathing methods into their movement.

The standard tuning is in D major, so it starts from D and goes up in the pentatonic scale.

Thanks for the videos! I was self teaching years ago when I got my guzheng. However, I had to stop because I broke several strings while tuning it later on. I did that a few times and gave up because it became costly to keep buying strings to break. Do you have a video of tuning without destroying the instrument/strings? Thanks again for the vids!
@SoundofChinaGuzheng5 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can search for "guzheng tuning" video. Basically, you will need to remove the string from the bridge before tighten the string. Put the bridge back after you tightened the string.

I want to correct something you said in the video: You said "perpendicular" to the string. I think you meant parallel (which means same direction) The whole video you were plucking Parallel
@SoundofChinaGuzheng6 жыл бұрын
I meant the pick resting position is perpendicular to the string, where pick is making a 90 degree angle with the string.

If you ever pick the string with your finger. Do it slowly and don't rush yourself... since your hand may need to adjust with the pressure of the strings.

no, you can't. The dan tranh picks are made specifically for dan tranh. The dan tranh strings are very thin and fragile. The picks are fragile too. The guzheng strings are much thicker. You'll break your dan tranh picks if you try them on the guzheng.
