Exploring an old mine in the Yukon Copper Belt for Bornite, Epidote, Pyrite and other cool minerals. Collecting at this sites was soooo easy. Nice specimens are everywhere.

Limestone can be good rock for crystals. Just look for vugs

Drove into Whitehorse back in 2002 on a road trip from Fl to AK.. beautiful indeed.. loved it! Don’t know how much it’s changed over the years, fly it now!. Thanks for the video .. regret not having started chipping away years ago!

That would be a heck of a nice drive. My brother in law worked on the Alaska Highway. On one blast, they exposed a huge vein of copper. There were all disappointed that it wasn't gold. I should have asked him where it was but at the time I was only interested in gold too. Now, it is too late to ask

2:00 - I see some IRONDITE sticking up out of the pile - it looks nearly pure and I'm marveling at its extruded structure. There must be some granite dies buried beneath that pile. :) LOL

You had me. I actually tried to look up irondite. LOL This spot is on the edge of a dump so irondite, rubberite and glassite in quantity amongst the waste rock. Good thing no black bearite on this trip.

Thanks for the videos. I have wanted to do rock tumbling since I was a preteen. Your videos have pushed me over the edge. The wife and I are finally going this. Thanks for the encouragement. We will be uploading to youtube as well so we can track our progress. Successes & fails, what we did right or wrong, etc. without the risk of losing everything to a hard drive failure. I think this is something I can get into for a long time. Thanks again for that push.

Man you sure get around. I imagine it was very difficult to decide on which samples to take. I almost felt sorry for you. ALMOST! Speaking of feeling like a kid in a candy store, I took my daughter to a regional gem and mineral show yesterday for her birthday. We escaped with "aboot" 30 samples for just under 2 bills. Enjoyed your vid as always.

Yeah rock collecting.... Or picking up interesting rocks it can be very entertaining for sure! But the best find was that license plate!!! Nice place to get samples of bornite. I always did love the Yukon..... Jack! Drove through there in the 80's on my way to Alaska.

so, I've recently got some good gold panning equipment, I was going to get a sluesbox next but I'm pretty sure I'm getting a rock tumbler now lol. I can't stand by letting so many cool rocks go uncollected and unpolished lol. One day I'll be bold enough to get a metal detector, but I need to find some cool stuff before I can justify that kinda spending.

Depending on where you prospect, river sluices may not be allowed or you need to own the claim to do anything but pan. My advice is to forget about sluicing until you have tested/found a good spot with a pan. That might save you some coin for now. ;-)

Some beautiful bornite there. You know, you are going to cost me a fortune when I see my rock guy Thanksgiving weekend (U.S. one). I have been making a list from your videos of things I want to look for. I will have to practise a lot of self control.

@@meMiner I am not as lucky as you. I don't have any where descent here to go hunting. I can find fossils, iron pyrite and arrow heads and that is about it. Some quartz and granite but that is a dime a dozen stuff. If I go over to the Mississippi, I can find some geodes but that is about it.

What pretty rocks! Minerals I have never heard of before. Thanks for showing us. I would be a little freaked out buy the thoughts of bears being close by. Yikes! The pyrite would be hard to tell apart from gold if they are both heavy eh? I have a friend who lived there up until last spring, now she lives 5 hours north of there. It would be a bit pricey, but you may have been able to mail some of those rocks to yourself?

That was a cartoon horn added to the video. Smacked the little rock on a large rock, with no success. Then hit the small rock with a small rock without success. Finally, used a big rock to break the little rock.

Nice. I think many humans are "auto" attracted to the the magnificent shades of Cu minerals in oxidation. I very much like the pink Cobalt matrices you have up there. Don't see that around here.

I considered it. 70 hour drive. Longer because there are so many places I would stop. Known places plus 100 km/hr prospecting. ;-)

HI! WHAT is that Green @ 3:35? I find in Fla. yard small 'Stones' that look like they were bones. (< 1\2 dollar size) 'Stones' have areas of dark green to reddish brown that looks like 'Glass', some layered 'glass' - 'stone' - 'glass' & some w\ spots attract magnet. I welcome Any Ideas. Thanks! Thoughts ~ Epidote to Tourmaline > Even Fulgurite. have no idea. = ]

I’m new to all of this. Just subscribed. I metal detect but I’ve always wanted to do stuff like this. I live in south western America, think I can find some cool rocks out here?

Wow, what a great spot. I'm up here in interior Alaska, I know the pain of every rock is a cool rock. Just limited by what can be carried. Poor subarus a lowrider now. You did a good job being discriminate.

I should post a pic of my wife's Crosstrek. I had imported bull bars for it from Australia. Looked tough. However, she drove it off the road into a forest in Dec. Took down the little trees but a big one stopped her. Shopping now for a new car. ;-)
