@@Mrumff Not very similar, to be honest. I can't recognize any similarities. We know that Take Me Higher is based on Nickelback's Animals, that's clear as day. Although BAND-MAID reproduced only the beginning of the song, the rest is absolutely different. They repeat the main riff throughout the song as well, but the vocal melody on top of it is absolutely different. It sounds to me like a quote, not like a cover, to be honest. Akane reproduces the initial drum part note for note as well. But then Kanami starts her solo, and you immediately understand that BAND-MAID is a level above Nickelback. That sounds like a tribute to a great band, maybe the way to show "That's our roots, and now listen to where we have grown to." But as for Whitesnake's [Slip of the Tongue], that seems like a far-fetched association chain.

Both MISA (bass) and Akane (drums) are graduates of The Tokyo School Of Music. Kanami (lead guitar) would seem to have received private tuition (certainly for piano and probably for guitar). Miku (rhythm guitar) is being taught by the best (i.e. Kanami!).

I salute your resistance to pause during the guitar solo, for doing so will miss the cream on top, which is the drum emerging from behind the guitar then bridging back to vocal, short but achingly sweet!

Miku (rythm guitar/vocals). They are a twin vocals band. Even though she sings some backup, they do not consider her as a backup singer. Not trying to be rude, just needed to say it.
@snakewhisperer1
@snakewhisperer1 5 жыл бұрын
No worries....not taken as rude. You're right. Anybody who knows the history of Band Maid knows that Miku was actually the initial lead singer and picked up the guitar later. Miku is kind of a "secondary vocalist" if you will. But it's just easier to introduce her to a new listener as "backing vocalist". As they get more into Band Maid, the "twin vocalists" element becomes more apparent. But this is why I really have an admiration for Miku. We know it was her idea to bring Saiki in. I think that shows the kind of person Miku is. She cares more about what's good for the band than her own personal ego. And as one who's played guitar myself for 35 years, let me say she has really become a solid rhythm player in a short period of time (left side on the live clips). That's pure dedication and determination!
@melocitysolo9574
@melocitysolo9574 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, Miku's dream was to become a singer from her teens. Although she was admitted to a superior public university, she could not give up her dream of becoming a singer, so she quit the university and made up her mind to go to Tokyo alone. And she finally got the status of a band vocalist, but she realized her voice wasn't for rock, gave up her dream, and chose Saiki as the main vocalist. Perhaps it was a tough decision for her.
@snakewhisperer1
@snakewhisperer1 5 жыл бұрын
No doubt it was! But it seems to be paying off as her dream of "world domination" comes to fruition more and more everyday. She, as well as all the ladies, deserve the success they achieve.

The English subtitles were different from the official lyrics that were provided with the album. This is the official translation: I want to be immersed in that atmosphere just a little bit Pump it out, feeling Look at me! Look at me! Don't get in my way I'll pretend just for you Shot me down! (down) Down! (down) I'm not like you I won't be satisfied just by sweetness Hey catch me if you can It depends on you I won't let you get so close so easily I'll pull a feint And make your feelings go crazy, perverse love Let me play with you more *Just begun, bring it now! Turn me on, with just words, No No No I won't let you say them, turn me on The answer is always No No No The truth and the lies are both secret Only you are so special Don't you think so? Turn me on, don't be so submissive Yeah Yeah Yeah Accept it all, Want me Even if I were bothered you were being docile An unusual feeling You should be! You should be! It's so hard to hear This is "you" right? Shot me down! (down) Down! (down) I'm not like you I'm not stupid enough to drown Don't think less of me I'm determined I hide lies in my smile Acting like the joker Scornful perverse love Manipulate me more *Repeat x 2

@@Luniversed you're welcome 🙂 B-M has a loyal fanbase, so it doesn't matter what song you choose. *Onset* is a great instrumental. *Freedom* is a song where they wander around the stage and interact with the crowd more. *Don't You Tell Me* and *Take Me Higher* have good guitar vs bass moments. *One and Only* has great lyrics with odd/kind of spooky instrumental breaks (the song was written for a Japanese horror movie). *Moratorium* is a harder song, and it's Akane's (drummer) favorite. Thanks for the entertaining B-M videos 😎🤘

Maybe this is an off-the-wall thought or idea. But I don't think so. Because they incorporate so many different genres of music. Not only has a band, but even in each song. What would be really cool for them. And give him so much worldwide exposure. Is if they were asked to do a theme song for a Bond movie. Because the way they change it up. Going from hard to soft and back again during their songs. And with that big sound. I think that would be a marriage made in heaven ! And would give them the worldwide exposure they so rightfully deserve ! I also think they should be asked to perform at the opening ceremonies. At the Olympics in Japan this year !

I was thinking that these ladies should be on a bigger stage, opening for "Big Name" group. Somewhat how Babymetal got western exposure. But thinking a little more if you were a "Big Name" rock group would you want to follow these ladies? So I wonder if fear is why they are not touring with a "Big Name" group. You have said that you are a music teacher for young students, THANK YOU. What you are doing in our educational system is so important for our future especially exposing your students the Music from the world not just the US and Europe.

Another source of guitar insanity is Polkadot Stingray "Telecaster Stripe" or several other songs from that time. Their new stuff is more mellow, but they can lay you flat with precision chaotic funky smoothness without overplaying. And that voice will stick in your head. I'd make more specific recommendations, but they don't romanize their titles.

"Pandora Box" is another fine song from them, although Shizuku wearing bunny ears is not to be missed in "Telecaster Stripe". She is so cute it hurts. As you said, the funky guitar rhythms of Harushi Ejima are outstanding, as is his blues-laced solos. You won't see straight-up reaction vids on them because, as stimproid points out, it's an automatic copyright strike. Link and Sync is the only way to do their songs.
@viaverde3153

Yes, in the case of Polkadot Stingray and copyright, not only the official Japanese watchdog goes crazy, but probably also their label and agency. And with this band the same things are starting to happen as with Drop`s and Mutant Monster. More and more sweet, slightly nauseing additions to subsequent portions of ramen. The black hole of Japanese music business mainstream draws them one by one, in sequence, and more and more deeper.
