Yul's language was Russian, he was born in Vladivostok. He also lived in Paris until he was 20 years old and speaks French perfectly. In 1940, he moved to the United States.

@@inoagent3486 не дубляж. Это всегда так, когда говоришь на другом языке, голос может звучать по другому. Из-за особенностей произношения, интонации и дыхания во время речи. Иногда говорят что пто вроде такого- ты не узнаешь голос даже блищкого человека, если он будет говорить по немецки.

That’s not him speaking through out the movie, the simple one liners in the beginning, but not the big scene . The one liners are him in his deeper voice. The others are a lighter, higher voice.

That's because "the big scene" is originally in English but this version is dubbed into Spanish. The parts where he speaks Russian are not dubbed.

Was he speaking Russian as in really speaking it, not phonetically, as a Russian friend of mine pointed out to me so many of Hollywood's faux Russians onscreen are only speaking the language phonetically without all the inflections you would get from a native speaker.

He speaks very good Russian,but when you listen to him,you can guess that this was the language people could speak in 19th century or the beginning of the 20th .He has so unusual,I would say noble intonation.Very pure Russian,very good.Not dubbed,of course.

His Russian has strong American accent, but other than that is VERY good. Would not say that about the scene.... Idiotic pseudo-Slavonic name Surov. Stressed criminal tatoos at his secretary. RaPPort instead of rePort. It just so stupid and so underhanded, comparing with his performance here....

He only has accent when speaks fastly, and Surov is a real Russian surname. Rapport is russian name for report.

Well, indeed such a surname is registered like here www.obd-memorial.ru/html/info.htm?id=78231833 and is relatively used until 1922, it is even used in 1924 and 1927 - but it is largely disappears later. Never met one in real life.
