i have checked out your videos. but i haven't found a particular video that explain writing skill or academic writing. one of the questions i want to ask is shall we exclude all pharases and idioms? is there exception to use them.
@snaplanguage3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks for the comment! I have a second channel that covers the basics of academic writing (especially for essays). It is a simple version of the process. I am planning on adding a more advanced version to this channel, but it will take a while. Check our Snap Language Learner at kzbin.info learner You should be able to find the playlist for "The Writing Process" there easily because there aren't many videos there yet. Thanks again! Cheers :D

My language is slovenian, we say srečen božič (merry christmas) and vesele praznike (happy holidays), or lepe praznike (nice/lovely holidays).
Concerning YULE : I am lucky enough to have in my possession an excellent Old Norse dictionary written by Walter Bartke 1983. Inside there are 5 words : jóð (n) "newborn baby", jól (n) "yule", jóm "place name in Jómsborg", jór (m) "horse" and Jót "root of the Jutes, a Germanic tribe". The last means "giant" and is connected to jǫtunn (m) "giant". We know that jór "horse" is the evolution of the Runic ehwar which is the name of the letter E and ehwar is the evolution of ehwaz "horse" which is the indoeuropean EKWOS "horse". What if jól could be an evolution of *ehwal ?! If yes it may be connected to Latin EQUALIS "equal" and then would have had the basic meaning of "even tide". Through the centuries the winter solstice could be confused with the equinox. It is not rare to note this kind of confusion in linguistics. In Germanic Tyr who was the main god became only a secondary god and even Wotan is not always the equivalent of the main god. Tuesday is the day of the war god but Sunday is merely the day of the sun and not the day of Wodan. The words starting with jó + one only letter are really a mystery to solve. The words in jǫ- are also interesting : jǫf- "even", jǫk "ice", jǫrð "earth", jǫstr "yeast", jǫfurr "(e)boar". All these words indicate that this initial jó- or jǫ is an ancient indoeuropean *E-. The mysteries go on :-)

At Juletid, in Denmark we say: God Jul or Glædelig Jul (~Good/Merry). Some say one thing is used up to Christmas and the other from the 24th on. Can't say which is used when, as used them both no matter when.
@snaplanguage3 жыл бұрын
People often don't even think about what the words mean in these set phrases you say on special occasions. Why always "Merry Christmas?" Is "Happy Christmas" okay to say? or "Good Christmas?" Perhaps Danish speakers are starting to lose the difference between "God Jul" and "Glædelig Jul." ... Interesting... Tak for at se videoen og kommentaren! :D [thanks Google translate! LOL]

Geseende Kersfees! (blessed Christmas) WRT tid... Is that related to tidbit? Also, in Afrikaans the word for time is tyd (rhymes with mate and date), and I guess it has the same root.
@snaplanguage3 жыл бұрын
I looked up "tidbit." It has an interesting etymology (to say the least LOL). I'm sure tyd (Afrikaans) comes from tijd (Dutch), which has the same root as "tide" (= time). Etymologies are wild. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. Gelukkig nieuwjaar \:D/

Hi, do you have English speaking courses!
@snaplanguage3 жыл бұрын
Hi, Mano. I'm not sure what you mean by "having courses." I'm developing a website at snaplanguage.io , which has an ESL section. It takes time to develop materials, so I'll be adding information there as I come up with it. I also have a second channel at kzbin.info where I'll start posting more videos for English language learners. The lessons will include listening as well. I hope to be able to add new videos regularly, though they will cover not only listening but also grammar, vocabulary, reading writing, pronunciation, and so on. Thanks for watching and leaving a question! Cheers! :D
