I really love this style of studio Boudoir, very clean and simple with not too much going on in the background. But I am glad everyone has its own style. Great video, amazing tutorial, thank you so much, Yuliya! Love from Belgium...

Thank you so much Anja for watching and commenting. I personally love the minimalistic style, but it's not for everyone's taste. Some people love the full bedroom setup with giant wings 😋

I’ve taught lighting for many years. A one light approach certainly works, but a two light strategy with the key light overlapping centered ‘neutral’ fill which mimics the natural sun key light / sky fill provides more creative control over the shadow values and front-to-back shadow gradients. Why center the fill? To hide the shadows it will create from the POV of the camera. Joe Zeltsman, who taught portrait lighting to my mentor Monte Zucker had his fill lights mounted to the ceiling aimed at the back white wall of his studio and it produced the same quality of wrap around fill as the north sky. I used beauty dish with a sock above the lens to get a similar look. Workflow is simply a matter of setting the aperture desired for DOF then start with Fill light first in dark room first, raising power until the sensor gets enough light to reveal the first hints of detail. The lighting will look flat but that is ideal for the fill because you don’t what it creating a second set of shadows. The next step is to turn on the key light which over laps fill to create the highlights. When I switched to digital discovered a great way to set lights before the subject steps in front of them is to drape black and white terry wash clothes over a light stand at subject position representing the extremes of the tonal range encountered with the draping creating 3D shape via shadows and the loops in the fabric creating specular highlights which are critical for defining 3D on both white and black objects and judging optimal highlight exposure. The whitest objects in a photo need to be rendered at around 245-250 1/3 stop under 255 clipping in the specular highlights to created the perception of 3D in the reproduction. The white towel allows that to be set very accurately by increasing key power until triggering the clipping warning in playback then backing off power 1/3 stop until it disappears.

what does " boudoir " mean? ;-) Boudoir is ultimately photography in a room where the furniture of the room is also included. The word boudoir says it all. Everything else is simply a studio shoot in lingerie. I have been doing boudoir shoots in a room set up for this purpose for 38 years. I do everything else in the studio.
@yuliyapanchenko8 ай бұрын
Is your boudoir setup in your bedroom or in your studio? Or those who go on location in hotels should call it lingerie in hotel photography? The genre has evolved to a form of art with over 20 sub-genres. I personally don’t do cheesy boudoir, but focus more on the art part of it. Now days anyone with a camera and a bed call themselves boudoir photographers and I’m sure after 38 years of doing it, you know what I’m talking about :))
@Blackmind08 ай бұрын
@@yuliyapanchenko , yes i know what you mean. The word boudoir is probably used by many male photographers who actually want to photograph nude or at least topless or lingerie. It sounds better or softer than telling a model I want to do nude photography ;-) I'm lucky enough to have a room in a large studio just for boudoir, furnished with some nice furniture. I think a nice set is very important for boudoir.
@mjmulenga38 ай бұрын
@@Blackmind0 words evolve in meaning, so do photography genres. Haven't you seen people doing street photography at the beach? Boudoir is understood by must people to refer to a specific genre of photography, not necessarily with constraints on the location and visible elements in the background. Your viewpoint is a tiny minority.
@Blackmind08 ай бұрын
@@mjmulenga3 Street photography is an art form of photography that focuses on the spontaneous capture of everyday scenes in public spaces. It usually depicts people, architecture, street scenes, and urban landscapes to capture the dynamics, emotions, and social interactions of city life. Apart from the fact that in Europe it is not welcome to take pictures on beaches, street photography has its definition from the 19th century. That doesn't change either. Everything else is then outdoor photography, nature photography or documentation. the same with boudoir, the fact that more and more photographers - mostly men - use the word "boudoir" when they want to photograph women as naked as possible does not change the true style of boudior photography. If a photographer doesn't have the courage to tell a model he wants to photograph her naked or half-naked in the studio, he should learn manners. The women who come to me for boudior photos know what to expect. No nude photos / bikini photos in the studio, but sensual Photography in beautiful lingerie in a " boudoir", nudity is not always important, but can happen at Boudoir. Boudior is Boudoir is Boudoir. It's about the space or the house or even out of the living room onto the terrace, but it has nothing to do with "studio". Unfortunately, it is the case that people forget the meaning of words and change them thoughtlessly. That doesn't make it any more right. I can name any kind of photography with the right words, when I do nudes in the studio, I can say it. When I do outdoor nude, I can say it. When I do bikini shots or lingerie in the studio, I can tell it. As simple as that.Photo genres are not evolving, only new ones are being added, that's a difference. The technology for this is evolving.Nude is Nude, nature is nature, sport is sport, documentation is documentation.Of course, most people who buy a camera and then believe that I'm a photographer don't know the background and parrot everything they hear.

At what power are your lights?
@yuliyapanchenko8 ай бұрын
Hi and thanks for the question. The power depends on your and will be different on every light. I’m sure you know that too. If you have the same lights as me, I was about 30-50% of the power and shooting with minimum ambient light.
