Beautiful rendition. Maybe the "mistake" people are hearing is that there is something wrong with the damper being stuck closed on C# one octave above middle C. This song is played with a lot of pedal, so every time that note comes out staccato due to the damper problem it sounds off. After the first time you can hear that he does his best to work around it.
Bravo. Along the ranks of Barenboim. I appreciate the controlled attack in the 3rd movement and the Chopinesque interpretation of the 1st.
@FreestateofOkondor9 жыл бұрын
this is hands down the best version of the moonlight sonata around, that 3rd movement has exactly the right speed and feel, dramatic yet not drowing out any notes
@music4everandafter8 жыл бұрын
+Fat Lum right?? the 3rd movement speed is like dancing naked under the storm at the edge of the earth, maybe some balls of fire falling around right????
@frakreynolds12348 жыл бұрын
+Andres Catunga, I'm guessing, since I'm eight that that means, it's hard. But actually, the song seems very easy. I mean, after, the very beginning, it really is just a moderate speed on the right hand and a mush of repeated key mush on the left that changes every ones in a while. But for some parts, it's easy, but not good. Like the horrible part at the end. Ughhhhhhhh.

I used to think guitarist where the most arrogant, know-it-all, snobs in the music world until I read the comments on this page. I bet half the people here don't have the skill or guts to post a video of their own on how it should be played. Typical KZbin keyboard warriors with no sense of reality.
@EggiTheShadow9 жыл бұрын
JerodimusPrime Regardless, it doesn't take musical talent to compare. And in my opinion i think Murray Perahia, gives us the best 3rd movement out of any of the pianists i've heard over youtube, right up there with Rubenstein, honestly in the end it all comes up to personal preference really, as all the pianists are pressing the right notes, its just the speed and the distinctiveness of each note that varies, oh and facial expressions/body language, some people like it, some don't. And no i don't have the guts to post a video because i don't play piano!! neither can i comment on any of the technical aspects which make other versions sound better... they just do
@JerodimusPrime9 жыл бұрын
EggiTheShadow So what if you think somebody does it better? The fact is you haven't got half the talent of either of these pianist, it's an insult for you to shoot off your mouth like you're some kind of authority on these issues. Get a reality check.
@EggiTheShadow9 жыл бұрын
JerodimusPrime Uh huh... i was stating an opinion, clearly, in this case its a matter of opinion not of authority, that's what the comment section is for, otherwise what else do we comment on. We can't just say he was great, when we don't think so. I wasn't saying i was any better than him, i meant no disrespect. You need to seriously calm down, i'm comparing, not showing superiority. Otherwise we might as well all stop commenting on these videos because there's no point if we can't criticise as well as praise
@JerodimusPrime9 жыл бұрын
EggiTheShadow Everyone has an "opinion" that's not my problem. My problem is when talentless people somehow think their God given opinion makes then an expert to critique people with much more ability than they would ever have even if they where given several lifetimes of practice. Get a reality check. You aren't qualified to judge anyone's talent. You're just another random KZbin expert. Either appreciate the talent, or don't watch it if you don't like it, or get qualified to make your "opinion" something worth while instead of clogging up the comments with useless views.
@EggiTheShadow9 жыл бұрын
JerodimusPrime I'm not judging anyone, neither did i say i was an expert. Qualifications mean nothing, nothing at all, i think anyone should be able to judge with their own opinion, BUT. I do agree with you to an extent, when people try cover up their "opinion" with technical words here and there to make it sound professional, that's just not right. It comes to show that anyone can SOUND like an expert on the internet, and that can really demoralise the players, which is not nice
@maryyueil3 жыл бұрын
The 3rd movement is beautiful, tempo not too fast. Most pianists play too fast. He is a wonderful pianist, it's too bad, he doesn't play that often.

Curious fact: Exploration shows that Chopin`s Fantaisie-Impromptu and Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata ("Quasi una fantasia") are related. Fantaisie-Impromptu draws many of its harmonic and tonal elements from Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, which is also in C-sharp minor, in particular, the third movement. Two measures after the melody begins, an abrupt run has the same notes, one octave higher, as the cadenza in movement 3 (Presto agitato) of that work. The climax on a six-four chord is similar in both pieces. Also, the Fantaisie-Impromptu's middle part and the second movement of the Moonlight Sonata are in D-flat major. The first and third movements are in C-sharp minor.
@inazuma3gou6 жыл бұрын

@leameine77243 жыл бұрын
.???Quit his career??? He has many recitals scheduled for 2020 which were postponed due to COVID-19. There are far more KZbinrs who praised Yundi than disliked him. As to the ones who do, they keep saying the same things over and over again that Yundi has regressed since winning the Chopin Competition since 2000. One only has to listen to his recordings and attend his performances to know these comments are smearing ones to say the least. It is sad to hear such untrue statements spoken of toward such a great pianist of our time.

I don't care what everyone says about this clip. I love the moonlight sonata. I love music, unfortunately I'm not very good at it, so if Yundi-Li makes mistakes (one of my 'skills' is picking a wrong note out of a chord), he is still better than me. If anyone feels they are better, please put the clip on KZbin and let us all share. As for me, I will not be posting my musical ventures any time soon!
