Great performance. Both are great musicians. Yungdi's piano is always full of emotion, feeling, and attraction. It is so standing out and you can't ignore it.

Excuse me? Gustavo Dudamel is nothing if not extremely passionate about every single piece he conducts. His "showy" conducting style is an expression of that passion. There is no narcissism, just a complete love of music.

The difference between the Dude and Lang Lang is in the resulting music. The Dude's physical mannerisms are very expressive but his interpretations don't result in overly showmanship sounds. He remains mainstream in the way the music is manifested while squeezing as much passion and emotion as possible. He is a fantastic composer and is continuing the meteoric rise of the LA Phil that Salonen started.

How come Lang Lang is often called a "clown" on the piano when he shows the exact same passionate mannerisms that G. Dudamel shows, and Dudamel is called "expressive" but Lang Lang is called a "clown"?

Its not easy being handsome because they are in different positions. The Conductor need action to direct the whole orchestra. The pianist just needs playing the piano. More body movements will affect keys touching. And the conduct is back to the audience, his show is just to guide /inspire the band. The pianist is to use his music inspire audience and not body show.

Because comments usually come from real life untalented clowns!
@jinzhu24412 жыл бұрын
The conductor only has his back to the audience and his facial expression is more to the orchestra team not to show off to audience. But the pianist's excessive facial expressions and body language are purely show off and try to attract the audience by to those gesture not by his music. That is why the classical musical commentors call him a clown.

Sad to say, yundi will not sustain this finger-centered approach

Liszt come pianista sarà pur stato eccezionale, ma come compositore era proprio una nullità. Tanto fragore, ma d'un'idea musicale vera nemmeno la traccia.

@Gaddo varzo, that's exactly my initial reaction to Lizst. Like Un Saspiro, it has fluidity but no inner tension. Chopin and Lundi have the circular swirls of emotions, passions and compassion and the rising epicycloids merging into clouds and disintegrating as bursts of showers or drizzle and spits of rain. I think that miight be my interpretation of Yun di's name? Lizst is a vacant flow somewhat... all on the presentation showy and quite empty.

The conductor was too showy. Very narcissistic.

You're right! He doesn't exactly have Tommy Schipper's (this was his place) elegance and musical understanding.

I don't mind. This guy has tons and tons of music loaded in his BRAIN. I see that more important.
