All I can say about Halsey and live shows is that the woman really does do an amazing job. This is an old performance, but compare it with what she done on tour that I saw in March shes improved greatly. Her tone is clear and only breathy in the songs/performances she chose. Her projection was great and honestly she sounded amazing all while she was jumping around on stage and hanging in the air by a harness. She improves greatly between eras of albums and her "Manic" era has shown some of the best progression. She's starting to take care of herself now though which is probably why.

Have you ever thought about how she was able to that kind of switch in her voice and technique? Cuz the answer is that Dominic, he learned her everything and her thanks to him was cheeting and left him brokenhearted.... What a nice gal, huuuh!!?! Tresh.. as we say in Europe

I love Halsey's sound but it's interesting to hear the technical side of it. I've seen her live and I can tell you I was astounded by how note perfect she was whilst doing backbends and everything. I would love to hear you maybe look at Yungblud's style because comparing performances like his song Waiting on the Weekend which he did for Tarantata and is a soft ballad with things like the live acoustic of I Think I'm Okay that he did with MGK or his bbc live lounge cover is interesting. A lot of people hear his raspy stuff and worry about his voice but then he does a song like Waiting on the Weekend and his voice can be incredibly soft. I'm glad you noticed his ear though- he seems to be a really responsive performer and has admitted he has a knack for melodies- famously he won MGK over by freestyling his verse on I Think I'm Okay in five minutes after hearing the track. I find he's very good at using his voice to paint the emotion of the track versus emphasising the lyrics, if that makes sense. Interesting video.

They were dating then, did another song together called 11 minutes. Might be dating again? It disturbs me that I know this. Got to stop reading so many comments. Oh, and I will bet he arranged that song. He's a natural director, staging his show and his special projects, one of which was really live. Look at the video for Hope for the Underrated Youth and then the Making Of. His speaking voice has some rasp. Smart, creative, on the edge emotionally. Super involved with his fan base. Seems like an extremely generous, decent human being. Wish him well.

I've seen Yungblud live last year on a festival here in germany. Pretty good crowd there, a lot of hype for an artist this new and kinda unkown in germany. His energy was just sooo over the top. Jumping around, playing guitar while wearing a cast on his arm... And I really felt like he enjoyed the concert way more then I did. Even if it might just be a stage persona, dude is pretty darn good.

I practice with an old Casio that I can't even get a pedal for anymore to train me out of that habit... of course it's a compete failure because when I'm on a grand I forget to lift my foot entirely.
@vevg5018
@vevg5018 4 жыл бұрын
@@TheSwauzz Sustain pedal just holds on the note after you press it, so rather than the note being short and coming off the second you're pressing the key down it has a longer tail on it, if that makes sense? Imagine a clap in a padded room versus a clap in a tunnel, it's kind of like that - I believe it's just added reverb but I don't know the mechanics of a piano aha
@np1056
@np1056 4 жыл бұрын
Yes! It's such a pet peeve of mine. It's a huge part of playing piano. You gotta learn when and how to use the damper/sustain pedal! Otherwise it gets so muddied, you can lose volume, and mix dissonant notes. I've noticed Lady Gaga often pedals with her left foot so she can open up to perform more toward the audience. If she can do that, this guy can lift his foot at the end of a lyric.
@CamSmithMusic02
@CamSmithMusic02 4 жыл бұрын
@@TheSwauzz Vev explained it pretty well. Basically on most keyboards, there's one foot pedal. If you play a chord and hold down the pedal, it'll keep going after you lift up your fingers. But when you're transitioning to the next chord, you have to lift up you foot so the two chords don't get all messy and muddled. Hope this helps :)

Halsey voice isn’t always like this, specially on her most recent performances. She’s not as breathy as before. Her voice has a better breath support, so it sounds fuller and less Baby-like, she has more control and her mid and high belts have improved a lot too. However, she still sounds like Halsey, and the jaw thing is part of her style, but her technique is better tho. It’s definitely worth looking into, I think you’ll enjoy it. I’ll leave you here some good performances of hers: Without Me: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nGqbdpxvrM-Kosk (This one is REALLY GOOD!!) kzbin.info/www/bejne/pp_Hh6d-f9KqaZI Graveyard: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iWqlfoR5fp2jaqM Part of that world (The little Mermaid): kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqqwmamcaNmanq8 100 Letters (I really like this one): kzbin.info/www/bejne/aJSomqBrqKuCpa8 Nightmare: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKjQhqidjt-hm68 You should be Sad: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j4CThWefn8tngqs

I don't really know anything about Halsey other than what you hear on the radio. She has a lovely voice, particularly in this performance. I appreciate what was said about stylistic choices because so many younger singers focus more on imitating someone on the radio than actually developing good habits that they can use to produce the sound they want. I was definitely guilty of that when I was younger and now that I'm working on singing again, I have to remind myself that my voice isn't going to sound like anyone else's.

I LOVE LOVE this song. I cry almost every time I hear it. There’s a few songs that are like that for me, and this is one of them. I’d never heard Yungblud before this and I have to say I’m not moved- which might be a bit funny considering he basically has the male equivalent to the highly stylised voice that Halsey has, and I love her voice. Her stylisation reminds me a lot of an Aussie singer- I’m not sure how well Angus and Julia Stone are known outside of Australia, but their song Chocolates and Cigarettes perfectly features Julia’s very heavily stylised voice. And I love it. It’s so different to what I was taught to do (by a stodgy old voice teacher who taught no nasality and no breathiness), and it’s something I still can’t do without feeling like I sound way too weird. Though I can approximate the feel/mood of it with my jazz/blues voice. And so while I don’t like his voice, I do think this is a lovely cover. He’s good at harmonising with her, and it makes the chorus sound magical. And it made me cry. Because it always does. (Another song that always makes me cry from just the song- not including the music video, that’s cheating, is Jason Isbell, If We Were Vampires. And it’s the same sort of mood as this song)

Please review YUNGBLUD- Señorita, Back to Black, Goosebumps in the Live Lounge YUNGBLUD's talent really shows through and his voice sounds completely different than how it sounds in this cover with Halsey. Would be interesting to hear your thoughts!

I trained classically for so long that it’s not difficult for me to sing outside of opera and musical theater because of my sound. I’m totally going to give singing with my speaking vowels (which just may crush my soul)

the way you pronounce halsey is funny and i love it

I see SO many people pronounce it that way! It always surprises me - I'm pretty sure I saw her name written out before I heard it spoken, and it always has seemed natural to pronounce it "hall-sey" to me. 🤷‍♀️

I ADORE when Sam scolds! He becomes hyper-agressively firm and nice. The more he wants to go off...the bigger the smile and positive, respectful, supportive suggestions. Then he tries not to harp (as he harps.) I ruined my voice as a performer and had a surgery. I wish he had been my coach!

Love your videos ❤ could you analyze more beginner singers or just people that don't have as much experience? I love watching you analyze as well as teach and correct

Hi Sam :) I was wondering if you also take recommendations to reactions? I really love how you analyze and explain, its always 100% on point and also constructive if theres any criticism. Theres a cover for poet and the pendulum (by nightwish) from a woman called "Iren" and I absolutely love it, and I would really like to hear what you think about it. Either way, your videos are amazing, thanks for the work you put into this!! As someone who usually doesnt sing it really gave me a different perspective to songs!

She's an indonesian doctor but love to singing and finally did a cover for korean version of Hati Yang Kau Sakiti. I really want to know how to have such singing skill
