I know this isn't what you want to know or asked, but i am a gay ace transman who always liked Yuri more the Yaoi. I just like the softness of Yuri more. As well as Yuri being the genre of what I needed in my youth. Topics of gender, Aceness, and the feelings of not liking your body, and how people view it in a male lends. (Trans after all) and it did lead me to one of my favorite yuri manga of all time. It's called 'Half and Half' by Nanami Mao It's about a woman who realizes the boy she had a crush on years ago is in fact a transwoman. In the story shehas to realize that her forcing her to try to be a man in secret again is not only something that will hurt her in the end, and swallowing the hard pill that her first crush was a woman. I don't want to spoil it. It's my all time favorite manga and it's only one volume and I want people to check it out.

im not a lesbian, and ive recently been getting into more GL series this year like 'Im in Love With The Villainess' and 'Stardust Telepath' for anime, along with 'My Feelings Can Wait' + 'Female General and Eldest Princess' for baihe. ive liked each one for different reasons but the one ive been enjoying the most is FGEP thanks to my love of my danmei and the historical setting it takes place in. im only 36 chapters in but i absolutely adore li xian and lin wanyue, along with lin wanyue's slowly growing feelings for li xian even though she doesnt understand what those feelings mean. not to mention how intelligent both women are for different reasons: li xian's intelligence as the princess surrounded by people who would sooner get rid of her as an obstacle. lin wanyue's intelligence in battle along with the strategies she comes up with based on observations around her.

Man ! This was a great video. Im a lesbian and I watch your videos alot. They are comforting and educational. Man when I was young I had no resources on being gay so I turned to Yuri fanfiction. Then I discovered a blog called Okazu. It is HISTORICAL covering EVERY and I mean EVERY Yuri manga published. It helped me understand how I feel and that being a lesbian wasn't wrong or...a fetish like how American Media portrayed it long ago. My favorite Yuri manga is beauty and the beast girl. And it dives into how two different types of women can find love no matter how they look. I like how you are balanced and include all. Because it makes a difference when we can all come together through our differences. It makes us STRONGER.

Great video, from a lesbian and dedicated yuri fan! If anyone wants to learn more about the history of yuri, I would highly recommend Erica Friedman's Yuri Studio series here on youtube, she is probably the foremost scholar of yuri in the western world, and I find her videos very informative. She also has a book on the matter (which I haven't read yet, tbh) and was was recently on the podcast History is Gay to talk about Yoshiya Nobuko's life. But I digress. You're absolutely right, yuri is not at all just yaoi but with women, so to speak. They're both genres unto themselves, with their own unique histories and conventions. I also watched your video on yaoi, and enjoyed it too! Good stuff, keep it up!

Oh my god, i always see people online undermine yuri as a genre, especially saying how stories are written by men for men etc... like, first of all, that's an outdated attitude because there are more queer people and women making yuri than ever, and the genre isn't made for men. There are fanservicey works that use lesbianism as a fetish, but it's not at all even the majority of the works. And then... is there something inherently wrong with it being written by men? Almost all yaoi is written by women and most fans are straight girls. It's a double standard. I'm always looking for chances to recommend yuri series to people so i can smash those preconceptions. It's annoying and honestly disturbing that other women just refuse to invest time in work about women. I'm a lesbian who's honestly always been irked by yaoi, but I've always been fine with yuri. But god is it hard to find other people, including lesbians, that feel the same way! Most of them only consume/prefer yaoi!

Thank you so much for your comment. I agree Lesbian novels and yuri are just always shoved under the rug or compared to yaoi for the sake of being the opposite. Yuri has more to it and should be able to sign. (Also as a gay man I’ll take the yaoi you get the yuri 🤝)

I can't find it anymore so take this with a grain of salt but I remember reading in the past about a study done on female Japanese Yaoi fans who came to realize their lesbian identity through not being able to see a man as the love interest of anyone else but another man. Another amazing video! I was excited for this one to drop. I really appreciated the history you included in this one, I learned a lot that even i didn’t know as a wlw yuri fan. You also included a ton of yuri I haven’t read yet so I’m excited to check them out😊 GL has been growing more and more as a genre in the recent years and tho it may never gain the popularity BL has it still carves out it’s own important space in lgbt media. Can’t wait to see the bi vid drop, my first ever anime also had my first bi character before I knew anything about lgbt community; Syaoran from Cardcaptor Sakura. Btw I’ll be at flamecon!
