I went through almost the same situation except I actually did 20 years in Alabama prison system. It really makes a man appreciate those books. Allah uses prison to make good men. Also I too was the only white Muslim most of the time. I actually met two more through out the years but one I know was only seeking. Alhamdulillah my brother!

SubHannaLah I was bound over as an adult when I was 15 in 1997 in Michigan and served 11 years in adult prison, do not pass go do not collect 200 dollars, no juvenile just straight to a level 4 yard. I studied Islam there and the Muslims there were some of the very best people that I had met, unfortunately they mostly all were doing terms of 20 plus years. I took my Shahaddah last week. Thank you for opening up about this. It took me another 12 plus years to overcome my institutionalization that I wasn't fully aware was even there. There is no Muslims where I live in Ohio and I learned to read and write Arabic memorized some surah and read a bunch of books when I was in there. I'm 42 now and I was absolutely FLOORED that everything I thought I forgotten our Merciful Lord made me remember it all. I couldn't tell you what I had for lunch yesterday akhi but wallahi ta ala He gave me my little knowledge back and inshallah every day and night I will learn more about the Deen. Jazakullah Khair

I find it strange that someone would tell you to leave that out and say it’s not significant when it’s literally the foundation of your start to being a Muslim. Your revert story has always been one of my favorites since I reverted and it’s amazing how there’s a whole deeper part to it that we never got to hear. SubhanAllah I loved this.
@b_g20172 жыл бұрын
I completely understand why he or anyone would leave that out in the beginning, there are a lot of very judgmental people, even Muslim. Our past should in no way determine who we are today in terms of good or bad but some people don’t yet understand the power of Allah on the human soul. Transformation is the product of our faith in Him. So ten years ago I could have been the worst of people yet today I could be among the best. You I perceive are not a judgmental person and for that I say alhamdulillah

yes but you can find a lot of things, but what gives you the title or right to say what is right and what is wrong. his imam, an educated man who spend his life with islam advices him, and youre here commenting on youtube “my favorite” and “we never got to hear”. you just dont want to miss out on entertaining content. sometimes we as humans have to be reminded that we are literally nothing and that we should not feel entitled too fast to think that our opinion matters but just obey the advices of the elder and wiser. be humble

Thanks a lot brother Yusha for the inspiring story. I have already listened to the previous Reflections series of podcasts and it was incredible. Your prison experience is a genuine trial especially for a new 18 year old Muslim revert and I'm sure it is relevant to many people. I'm sure you know that Malcolm X was introduced to Islam in prison, so jail time could be a chance for a lot of people to find the right path. Anyways, brother keep up these great inspiring episodes, we are already learning so much from your personal experience and growth and we appreciate it immensely. I got a question (more of a suggestion maybe), have you ever considered making a film based on these podcasts (after you finish the whole Reflections and The Prison Tapes series of course)? I mean the story of your life is so interesting I'm sure it will make a great movie provided you find a talented script writer.
