YSL Opium (1977 original version) was my very 1st Signature fragrance for 8 years. In 1985 I fell in love with Dior Poison and it became my new Signature fragrance. These 2 fragrances were masterpieces. 🥰

I went in today into a department store at the YSL counter, and asked the YSL consultant if today’s OPIUM had any aldehydes. The woman working at YSL asked me what Aldehydes were. I said you don’t know what aldehydes are? She said no. I said ok thank you and walked away 😆

I can remember 40yrs ago, I was in a department store and I was watching this man at the next counter,he was clearly a successful business CEO or something. He actually bought 24 bottles of opium perfume for his staff. That's how much sort after this fragrance was back in the day.😀

My Lola had the original Opium and when I sprayed *probably too much* it gave me a headache. It was such a wonderful scent.

I headed to Macy's to pick up a bottle and not there (Black yes, original no), nor did Nordstrom or Saks have it. So I ordered it fearing a discontinuation to come. Definitely a reformulation. It's not bad, but lacks the punch of previous generations.

I have that .. from the 70’s in the box .. never opened .I’m sure it’s gone bad by now .. I got it for Christmas when I was 19.. I also have the original Halston bottle never opened and some .Chanel # 5 if from 1950’s from my Grammy in the box .. never opened..she forgot she had it .. it was her favorite but for whatever reason. She had one that was never opened.. .

Funny, you mentioned memories... So in my country, in general , people are not very into fragrances, and if they are, they usually go for the top 10 current bestsellers etc. So when you smell something different, it's memorable. It's been at least 8 yrs but I still remember a night in a artsy hipstery college pub and there was this girl (probably a philosophy or art student), she had long dark hair and she UNAPOLOGETHICALY wore Opium - and she seemed like one of the coolest people I have ever seen. Even though I have had my bottle of Opium for at least 10 yrs I have barely used it - I am not that cool I guess.

I love those moments though. 💖 and you don’t have to wear opium outside. You can wear it at home too, for yourself. I find it to be the best way to enjoy perfumes 😍

I can understand that. To me, that perfume is THE perfume. But it’s true also that is one of the most complicated and wild scents out there. The real problem is to really adjust the dose, a little bit more is too much, but if you can find the right dose, the right weather, the right moment and the right mood, then is just magical, nothing can come even close. That fragrance can stop the time. Just wait for the moment. If you like it, then the moment it will arrive.
