Happy being in the Kochi area we are going on our first walk in the area. Seems to be very green and not so densely populated on the first sight, but let's see what it will bring. From afar we can see rivers and backwaters, Chinese fishing nets and lots of food places - let's go and see.

I am now in US but I hail from Kozhikode in Kerala. I wish to point out that Keralites and Bengalis have many common qualities. Both are well educated and clean. They take bath at least once, sometimes twice daily. Keralites take a bath in the evening apart from morning.Both are politically sensitive and communism is shared by both. Both have famous literary scholars. Both love fish.

Chinese admiral ZhengHe landed in Kerela with his fleet around 14th century. The chinese fishing net was introduced by them to keralites. You can also see some chinese influence in old Kerela houses and also in Kathakali dance. By the way, Kochi was also ruled by Portughese once upon a time. #indianfood #kochi #chicken65

Very nice food. There is a restaurant named "Nakshatra Catering" near your location where you can get a variety of kerala fare, including local food. Try it if you can. My parents live not far from where you are currently staying and so these videos bring back a lot of memories for me.

Kerala has a large resource of professionals in engineering and medical field. Thanks to the quality education system. Most of the educated people from Keral moves to foreign countries for job. Earlier they were moving to arab countries, but recently the new trend started, they started to move to western countries and Australia. Because of the foreign money they are able to build big houses here and visit here during vacation. That's why there are many empty houses here.

Those large houses are in a middle class neighbourhood. They tend to be quite big when compared to Indian standards. People made it big in middle east, and has higher standards of living.

The most dangerous mosquitoes are the ones which bites you in day time. They spread what all kinds of terrible diseases who knows. The people of Kochi create the environment for mosquitoes to breed and flourish. For protecting the mosquitoes they don't systematically plan and construct the drainages and sewages in and around Kochi. Mosquitoes are highly protected. I think there is another purpose with these mosquitoes, that is, an outsider who visits Kochi one's will dread to go there again at the mere thought of these helicopter like mosquitoes.

That's possible only in India. Kerala now has government which follow communist idealogy but in west bengal communist party ruled from 1978-2011. Kerala is very rich because of Spice Trade for Millennia. Rubber cultivation and trade also made the people rich Previous generation got opportunity to work for gulf countries. And majority current generation attending the bachelor courses. And people working all around the world. Agriculture friendly geography and climate of Kerala. Less invasions and destruction by foreigners compared to north of India. Still kerala faced invasions and destructions. But in North of India it was brutal and bloody.
