Hello from Surrey BC, very nice country and walk! 😀😀

If you want stunning locations then the Lake District should def top your list. There's loads of popular walks which to be honest are usually reasonably busy all year (certainly when I've been in different seasons) like around Derwent, Grasmere, Rydal and up towards Catbells and Helvellyn. There's also loads of less well known walks which take you up to pretty out of the way tarns with views not as many people see or up hills which give even better views. Northumberland is also beautiful, especially along the coast. Holy Island is amazing to walk around with lots of wildlife or if you stay after dark, spectacular views of the night sky and Milky Way. Just don't be one of those people who doesn't read the tide times/think they don't apply to you and ends up in the refuge box with a car that's underwater. The area is totally flat so the water comes in very, very quickly. The beach at Bamburgh is just down the road and is a long sandy bit of heaven - so good it was once accidentally used in a Canadian promo poster (for Canada). Also another great place to see the stars - pretty much the whole coast is along there. Hadrian's Wall is also mostly accessible aside from some of the big forts which are owned by English Heritage and you can walk along it. Another great place to see thousands of stars! There's a reason a lot of Northumberland is a Dark Sky Park.

This channel is an area of natural beauty, but I recommend Bamburgh and the Northumberland coastline.

Foreigners are always surprised to find out that England, especially southern England, has far more days with sun than with rain. Surrey Hills are gorgeous. Wonderful scenery and trails between Redhill/Reigate all the way to Guildford and down to Leith Hill, Holmbury, Pitch Hill etc.

There are some beautiful walks around Norfolk and Suffolk coast. Places to go would be Southwold (proper quaint seaside town) and walk along the coast to dunwich (huge beach and full of ghost stories). Then aldeburgh and thorpness are beautiful too. There’s also a place called Warberswick where we used to go crabbing and kite flying. I grew up in Lowestoft, it’s a lovely beach but not much else so we went on Sunday walks nearby and just walked until we found a pub-had a roast, then walk back to the car, I do miss those days. Or on the other scale, I went to uni in Devon. So Bantham beach and Bovisand were regular visits, the uni site is now a national trust place so probably more when things are open but worth a trip, that’s called Dartington Hall, and the town it’s in (Totnes) is super fun. Bodmin moor and golitha falls is pretty, we always stopped there on the way to Bude or St Ives. I’m always happy to give UK travel ideas, I’ve only left the UK 3 times, so most of my trips have been staycations, and by this list it seems I like beaches and the coast mostly lol!

Good to see Box Hill again. I haven't been there since I was a child 40+ years ago! If you do go travelling around the country can I suggest your route takes in the Humber Bridge? When built it was the longest single span suspension bridge in the world. There is a small country park and viewing area but the car park is currently a Covid 19 test area so closed to the public. You can however park either on Heddle foreshore or on the South bank around the village of Barton. Of course, you could also visit home town, the city of Hull. Kingston-Upon-Hull to give it it's full name though locals usually refer to it as 'ull, dropping the H. I could go on about this city for ages but two of it's unique historic qualities:- First we told King Charles I to do one, closed the gates to the old fortified city walls and wouldn't let him in. That forced him and his army back towards York and the beginning of the English Civil War. Secondly, and quite appropriate given current events going on in the USA, we are the home of the city of William Wilberforce, the MP who for 20 years campaigned to abolish slavery eventually resulting in the passing of the 1807 slavery act.

I am glad you mentioned the sun protection, Factor 50 is needed in the UK in spring /summer more so with the lack of pollution in the air due to less traffic on the roads and virtually no aircraft in the sky. Box Hill, one of the sites of Naval Signal Towers back in Nelson's time when urgent signals were sent by using flags to Portsmouth from the Admiralty using line of sight relay towers. The roads on Box Hill were used for the 2012 London Olympics for the cycling road races, a stern test for the riders before the return into London.

Nice vlog, not been to Box Hill for years. If you plan to go away on these hikes then you can hike around the Lake District, or walk The Ridgeway in Oxfordshire or the Yorkshire Dales all of which will take a few days to even partially complete! I look forward to your explorations!

Add the Isle of Wight to your travels, I liked it more than Cornwall. The Isle of Wight just has this nice little quaint English feel to it, Cornwall is one of those areas that is loved to death so can get quite crowded.

Surrey Hills is lovely. I was at a meeting near Petworth last week and drove back home along the A272 instead of the M25. Kent ,Surrey and Sussex are the prettiest counties in the UK...in my opinion ( I've pretty much done the lot) Incidentally, most counties have a list of recommended footpath walks with maps that you can download.(free)

Get yourself to Carlisle, do a 'Pilgrimage of the Heart' like U.S. President, Woodrow Wilson, because like your hubby's family, Wilson's family were from Carlisle. If you come by train, you leave the train station, enter the old city walls via the old citadels courts, walk past where Carlisle prison used to be, onto English Street, past the Marks & Spencer building where Prince Charles Edward Stuart had his quarters in 1745 and where the Duke of Cumberland had his quarters in 1746. Follow round to the left and onto Castle Street to the cathedral with Carlisle castle down the end.

Hiya. AllTrails is the app I use, too. Obviously, it's not as good as GPS or a Real Map, but it does show you trails you might never have noticed or considered before. Where to go for a Road Trip? How long's a piece of string? But you could try The Lake District, Beatrix Potter country. Just search the Wainwright Walks and you'll be hooked for life - as Wainwright was. Also search Julia Bradbury - Wainwright Walks on KZbin for an inkling of what the walks are like. You'll need proper footwear, though. Anyway, stay safe. All the best to you.

You were talking kilometers. England is measured in miles! It does annoy me.
@the_titan_atlas4 жыл бұрын
The UK uses a lot of metric too; you'll hear metres and kilometres mentioned quite a lot (our mountain heights are in metres for example, and a lot of races have kilometre markings). I'd say we're sort of 50/50 metric and imperial.
@valeriedavidson27854 жыл бұрын
@@the_titan_atlas Yes, annoyingly, but we are officially using Mileage in this country, every sign and map is measured that way so why try and confuse people. We do not have to suit continental Europe!!! Thank god we have got our independence back with Brexit.

Anywhere in Northumberland - Beaches, castles, countryside, hills, woods and relative emptiness. It's been mentioned, but it's worth mentioning again. Having said that, just about everywhere in the UK is pretty lovely, once you get out of the urban areas.

Actually Britain has been using the metric system for decades. About the only things that are still officially non metric, are pints in pubs and miles are still used, rather than kilometers. Although many of us still use feet and inches, to describe someone's height, even that is dying out. On anything official, centimeters are used and centimeters are also being used colloquially, by more people in each generation. Beyond these 3 examples, two official, one unofficial, everything is in metric nowadays. Quite right too. It's a much more sensible, logical and easy to understand system. It's the international and scientific standard and is used by virtually every country in the World. The notable exception being the US. 240 pennies to the pound, 12 pennies to a shilling, 20 shillings to a pound, 14 lbs to the stone, 16oz to a pound, eights or sixteenths of an inch,12 inches to a foot, 3 feet to a yard, 1760 yards to a mile, 3.542 miles to a League.._or... just remember '10'? I know which I prefer, is internationally recognised and which makes more sense. ;) :)
