@1:35... Gary Numan, Cars can be heard in the background (not on the FT-890) ! I love it :-) I miss the new wave of the '80s.

oi, você sabe para que serve o capacitor na lateral do rádio? há um furo para que você possa ajustá-lo sem abri-lo, obrigado. hi, do you know what the capacitor on the side of the radio is for? there is a hole so you can adjust it without opening it, thanks.

I just recently bought one of these and its just fabulous to operate. I wonder if I would be upgrading if I bought the FT 900 ALSO. Def wont part with FT890at

Over the years I have owned at least 10 to 12 different FT-890AT and five or six FT-900AT rigs. The suffix "AT" simply means it came with the ATU factory installed, which is the ONLY version I would EVER buy as brand new. WHY? because the very same factory installed ATU (Automatic Tuner Unit) in these two rigs was one of the very best built-in ATU units ever mass produced in an HF transceiver for the price range. IT has a very wide tuning range and it is a very long lasting automatic antenna tuner, made with very high quality Japanese components. Although I did buy two FT-890AT rigs brand new in the very early 1990's, most of my FT890AT/FT900AT rigs I bought for pretty darn cheap with minor internal electronic repairs needed. Then I sold them for a profit after fixing them....and using them on the air for awhile (2 to 6 weeks) just to make darn sure they were okay for resale as a fully functional transceiver. The FT-890 is a bit easier to work on (doing mods, repairs and/or realignment) and more of the FT-890 parts are commonplace to find replacements OR very good substitutes for. The FT-890 and FT-900 are practically the same radio electronically and in overall performance. The only real difference is that the FT-900 has 2/3 of the front control panel designed as a removable face plate, which becomes a remote control head, so that you can operate the transceiver in very limited space by remote mounting the bulk of the transceiver in the trunk/hatch (or under a rear truck/SUV seat) and then remote mounting the removable control head on/near the vehicle dash. The FT-900AT did have a "deluxe version" which came with the ATU...AND an optional COLLINS FILTER. While this did enhance SSB operation somewhat, I would still take the FT-890AT over the FT-900 on any day of the week. Main reason is that it is a bit easier to work on. ALSO, the FT-900 has even more "model specific" structural and mechanical YAESU parts, which are long since obsolete. The remote face plate cable has also become rather hard to find. INRAD (International Radio) still makes all the optional CW/SSB filters for each radio, which are excellent filters. But overall, I would much rather just have the FT-890AT. If you can find one still new in the box...or in barely used condition, they can easily command $900 to $1200 resale value. The FT-890AT was my absolute favorite HF rig of the early 1990's era. It can go portable or mobile, but it also makes a great base station if you prefer not to spend several thousand dollars on a huge flagship style base station HF rig. I presently HAVE a NEAR MINT CONDITION YAESU FT-890AT listed FOR SALE, which was bought new, then used on the bench as a base station for just ONE WEEKEND. Then it was placed BACK IN THE BOX, where it has been sitting in a closet for all these years....just as a "backup/spare RIG" for a guy who ran nothing but very large and expensive "flagship" type HF rigs. It is listed on both eBay and QTH classifieds and the price is negotiable. It is DOUBLE BOXED and ready to ship FULLY INSURED. Have a great day and be safe......KB1BBY/Scott KB1BBY at YAHOO dot COM
