YZ250x vs YZ250 series Clutch comparison and general inspection.

Here I look at the 3 main differences in the clutch between the YZ250x and the YZ250.
We also measure and inspect it after 34 hours of enduro riding.
I learned a lot from KZbin and various chat group forums so this is my way of paying it forward as there is so little on the YZ250x specifically.

opened up my 2016 yz250x today for clutch inspection/replacement and was suprised to see the surface of the pressure plate so rough. Good to know its not just mine. I was baffled when there was no matching wear to the inside of the cover.

Most of this information is incorrect the only difference is the springs and bolts. The friction plates and hub are both exactly the same part number there is not one with drilled holes for motocross.

I’ve put a few Hinson baskets in bikes especially 500’s, the stock baskets get notched so bad.

Are the 250 and 250x plates steel or aluminum?

I was always curious if the metal plates should be started with the round side towards the motor or away. I just make sure they are all the same.

My 19 x had the same scaring on the pressure plate, bike would make a nasty growl every once in awhile. Come to find out it would touch the casting nubs on the back side of the clutch cover, I have an 05 as well so I pulled the cover off of it and studied them. The 19 cover is actually casted different and obviously the little nubs stick out too far. I just sanded them down and haven’t had a problem since.

Thankyou for this. I'm thinking the boss is drilled on the mx model to allow for a quicker revving engine, while the yz250x has no drilling to act more like a heavier flywheel weight, makes sense. I have a 2018 yz250 and my friend mark has a 2018 yz250x, we switched bikes back n forth, really hard to feel a difference

enduro trucker Ernie Desjardins That is very interesting, have you done both mx an enduro with both bikes yet? I’d love to hear where you feel the difference if any.

Mostly enduro riding on the 2 bikes. Mark runs a pro circuit enduro pipe n silencer, it's really tough to feel any difference, I set up my suspension to the yz250x settings found in the manual, and set the sag at 110mm ( I'm also 230 lbs)

enduro trucker Ernie Desjardins this is so interesting, I am super tempted to get a mx yz250 and see for myself. Please keep me posted if you don’t mind? The closest I got to it was my yz125 I had for a short while.
