I used to play this at my cousin’s house. Probably almost 30 years ago. I watched through this whole thing with a sense of completion having seen all kinds of thing i never figured out long ago. Thanks for this. How weird that I cared enough to watch this, but I actually enjoyed it - I can die happy now 😂😂

This brings back memories. The anxiety of being caught by Mananan at any given time. The anxiety while walking down that mountain path the first time. The anxiety of facing the Medusa. The anxiety of possibly mistyping something while casting a spell in the cellar lab. Of course, those were different times, when creating or loading a savegame onto a floppy disk took roughly a minute......

Timing everything, running to hide your stuff, triple checking for typos, step step stepping sloooowly along the mountain, I loved this game but I agree it was so anxiety inducing lol

It was especially frustrating early on, because I'd just feel like I was making progress and then Mananan would pop in and I'd be screwed.

I bought this game for a friend of mine for his birthday when we were 12 or 13. His mother found out about the game and was not happy because of her religious beliefs. She said the fact that there was a wizard and magic spells in it made it blasphemous. She not only forbid my friend from playing it, she also threw it away. I was only 12 or 13 years old......I had spent my allowance on this......and she tossed it in the trash. I was upset, to say the least.

Had a copied floppy in the late 80s and got stumped with the spell book. Very clever of the programmers to put the actual spell book in the game's manual. I must have spent hours trying every command to read the spell book, re-exploring the house and the small countryside. I had no idea that this was a game that truly required the manual

I didn't have the manual either. The atmosphere and design of the game was GENIUS, and it was probably designed as an insult to people who pirated the game (as I did), because ironically, if you pirated it you were trapped on the island in just the same was as Gwideon. The wizard is Sierra Games, the pirate is Gwideon

That said we'd spend hours as a family trying to figure it out or use the correct word. Police Quest 2 was our hardest and were stuck for eons when searching Sonny's girlfriends apartment. Always wrote 'look at ashtray' and nothing. Probably about a year of replaying the game until we figured our 'look in ashtray'.

Glad to hear someone else say this! I honestly feel it's the best one. It may have just been my age at the time, but I thought this had the best coherence between setup, story, tensions, logical puzzles. All tied together with the fact that we don't know who we are to begin with, and Manannan keeps us relatively confined to the house area until we begin to understand our situation better, and learn to grab and hide, and ultimately use magical items, to get free.

+thesnare100 It's because there isn't a demand of these type of games any more. Or rather there isn't much of one. Video Game companies, like it or not, are businesses and as such must strive to make money in order to make games, and that means going with what the market says. I personally do not like shooters, but I can at least see that they are still in high demand, so of course they take priority.

I used to play these games all the time when I was younger, but unfortunately lost them when we got a new computer. Where were you able to find them?

I occasionally fire these up and I always emulate them through DOSBOX. There's also a site called Classic Reload which has a bunch of these games on there which you can play in your browser!

@@timmy3441 I know it’s been a while since I left this comment, but I wanted to thank you! I’ve been playing all my favorite childhood games on Classic Reload and it’s been so nice to do so. So again thank you for letting me know!!

If you ever played this game on the PC jr you probably still want to stick your head in a blender every time you hear Proud Mary.

#XboxOne and #Xbox360 have ported a few older #PCGames to #XboxLive (Monkey Island, Out Of This World, Sam and Max). I wish they would see the demand for these point and click PC games, or point and type PC games. If #NES made a #KingsQuest game work at some point, I bet #Microsoft could too. Not sure how they would handle the typing element of the earlier games. They could recreate the same system that later Quest games had where you point, clicked, and made selections... point at the bread and have a few selections "Take, Leave, Eat Bread" XBOX One Microsoft Developer ***** Microsoft Student Nintendo #SEGA PlayStation Xbox Blast Larry Hryb, Xbox Live's Major Nelson #SamAndMax #AnotherWorld #OutOfThisWorld #TalesOfMonkeyIsland #MonkeyIsland #TorinsPassage #KingsQuest #SierraGames #retrogaming #retro #pcgaming ***** PCMag Computerworld *****

The only hang up I had with your playthrough is there is no narrative. There's no looking around to get your bearings to know what is where it why you're even doing the tasks at hand. It's like reading a book and the only thing shared is the dialogue between any two or more people.
