I used to play this at my cousin’s house. Probably almost 30 years ago. I watched through this whole thing with a sense of completion having seen all kinds of thing i never figured out long ago. Thanks for this. How weird that I cared enough to watch this, but I actually enjoyed it - I can die happy now 😂😂

This brings back memories. The anxiety of being caught by Mananan at any given time. The anxiety while walking down that mountain path the first time. The anxiety of facing the Medusa. The anxiety of possibly mistyping something while casting a spell in the cellar lab. Of course, those were different times, when creating or loading a savegame onto a floppy disk took roughly a minute......

The worst part is that even if you do know exactly what to do (I never did) is that the length of the wizard's journey, and the order in which he has you do stuff can vary. It's entirely possible to simply not have time to gather everything.

I bought this game for a friend of mine for his birthday when we were 12 or 13. His mother found out about the game and was not happy because of her religious beliefs. She said the fact that there was a wizard and magic spells in it made it blasphemous. She not only forbid my friend from playing it, she also threw it away. I was only 12 or 13 years old......I had spent my allowance on this......and she tossed it in the trash. I was upset, to say the least.

Had a copied floppy in the late 80s and got stumped with the spell book. Very clever of the programmers to put the actual spell book in the game's manual. I must have spent hours trying every command to read the spell book, re-exploring the house and the small countryside. I had no idea that this was a game that truly required the manual

played this on a Tandy 1000 colour growing up, never got past the castle and could never figure out how to walk down mountain. This video revealed all to me I never knew. The player never dumped the chamber pot though! The Tandy we had still turns on, but the DOS startup disk does not :(

Ha! No kidding! As a kid leaving the house and walking down that curvy path was SUPER hard, let alone the rest of the game! Died so many times on that screen mainly cause of that blind spot where you couldn't see the path. I used to take FOREVER to get through that screen and I'd always save it right after lol.

I didn't have the manual either. The atmosphere and design of the game was GENIUS, and it was probably designed as an insult to people who pirated the game (as I did), because ironically, if you pirated it you were trapped on the island in just the same was as Gwideon. The wizard is Sierra Games, the pirate is Gwideon

Nice longplay man, good pace and flawess actions :) This is one of the most beautiful chapters and the saga starts to improve here. Love the story and the way it reconnects to previous chapters. Hated the spells part, but Manannan is an awesome character.

Yep. Each Sierra classic I knew I was in for at least 6 months of work. Loved it all though. Don't know how I managed to finish these games back then without having walkthroughs. That said we'd spend hours as a family trying to figure it out or use the correct word. Police Quest 2 was our hardest and were stuck for eons when searching Sonny's girlfriends apartment. Always wrote 'look at ashtray' and nothing. Probably about a year of replaying the game until we figured our 'look in ashtray'.

My mother completed the game on my PC clone in 1986. It took her months. She was vey pleased with herself I remember. But she loved KQ3. I didn't have the patience to play it. She had started with KQ1, and KQ2, before. She ended up completing all the KQ's up to KQ4.

Glad to hear someone else say this! I honestly feel it's the best one. It may have just been my age at the time, but I thought this had the best coherence between setup, story, tensions, logical puzzles. All tied together with the fact that we don't know who we are to begin with, and Manannan keeps us relatively confined to the house area until we begin to understand our situation better, and learn to grab and hide, and ultimately use magical items, to get free.

We never had this game when it came out, do you know what the average cost of a computer was in 1986? Not 300 for a laptop like today, let me tell you. Commodore's I think were cheaper, if you could play it on one, think this was DOS only.

Video Game companies, like it or not, are businesses and as such must strive to make money in order to make games, and that means going with what the market says. I personally do not like shooters, but I can at least see that they are still in high demand, so of course they take priority.

#XboxOne and #Xbox360 have ported a few older #PCGames to #XboxLive (Monkey Island, Out Of This World, Sam and Max). I wish they would see the demand for these point and click PC games, or point and type PC games. If #NES made a #KingsQuest game work at some point, I bet #Microsoft could too. Not sure how they would handle the typing element of the earlier games. The only hang up I had with your playthrough is there is no narrative. There's no looking around to get your bearings to know what is where it why you're even doing the tasks at hand. It's like reading a book and the only thing shared is the dialogue between any two or more people.
