Thank you Uechi Sensei for keeping Isshinryu alive in Okinawa. The Isshinryu punch is not the only hand strike or even punch in our great complete system
@SoldierDrew Жыл бұрын
It's not a complete system. There's no training against wrestlers and grapplers. . .No training to escape the ground. . .So if a female isshin ryu shodan is attacked while sleeping or pinned down in the back seat of a car by a heavier, stronger, date rapist she's helpless if all she has is isshin ryu training.

There's a video of a Goju Ryu practitioner (also Japanese), talking about making that same fist, but horizontal, when fighting in competitions.

The vertical fist allows for maximum power at close range.You are naturally stronger punching from this position. Try doing push ups in this fashion.

Correct me if I am wrong but I heard there only 2 isshinryu masters left in Okinawa. The question is why there isn't any more isshinryu master in Okinawa?

Si uno piensa que sabe algo , tenga cuidado . Naka esta aprendiendo karate ahora.
Is the thumb in danger of being broken when it's placed out side the fist like that?
@johnouellet40996 жыл бұрын
William Sullivan no because the punches are vertical with the thumbs facing up. this means that the first Knuckles to make contact by the pinky ring finger and middle finger so the pointer finger and thumb sit back a little bit it gives you a larger surface area when punching but you do sacrifice a bit of reach

If you look at the traditional fist compared to the Isshinryu fist, you'll notice the thumb sticks out just as much. Also if you look at the fist the master is making, and compare it to the 2 students, you'll notice he has his fist in alignment with his arm, whereas the 2 students do not. In other words, his fist is tilted downward a little bit, which aligns the 1st 2 knuckles with the rest of the bones in his arm, and his wrist is straight. there's no bend, this makes a perfect alignment throughout, from the 1st 2 knuckles all the way through the arm, and makes the punch very strong. Picture taking a 2×4 and jamming it into someone, When everything is an alignment your arm is sort of like that 2×4.
