banana plugs are not illegal in the UK, only the EU for some reason, I'm in the UK and i got mine from richer sounds a few months ago :)

Permafrost , exactly, the only thing people get confused about is that speaker manufacturers install plastic plugs in the 5-way binding posts, that's all.

I live in the Netherlands and I can testify that banana plugs aren't illegal here either. Also I have a pair of Wharfedale 220's and I can just use banana plugs without any form of modification. It is however possible to stick a banana plug in the wall socket here. So yeah, I don't really know where else it could be illegal then. Maybe it is illegal but it's just that nobody cares or something.

@Fisher Man They're a bit more relaxed sound than the 10.1 but still a ton of detail and with much low extension, enough that I removed my sub (but I don't care about movie rumble, etc.). I still love'm. I run them off an old Marantz which is comparatively warm and the synergy there is great - just a great match.

How would you compare these to those DIY Speedsters? I'm teetering between these two sets to put on my pc desktop complimented with a subwoofer. I could get these for about $200 ready to go and the speedsters would cost about twice as much and would have to build them myself. Are the Speedsters twice as good so to speak?

+Z Review you say you would probably get these over the Siggys, would that be just because of how they look, or look and sound and which between the siggys and these, get louder without distortion? Also how do the siggys and the 10.1s compare to the JBL230 regarding sound quality and loudness? Great reviews on this and the Consortium. You should have put Anchor butter with the butter taste test.

Originally the Diamond 10.1s were $300, so finding them for $250 is very nice. I believe the 220 is the new version of the 10.1, I'd be interested to see how different they are. Totally agree for placement, I tried to use my pair in a desk environment for a while. It just doesn't work well, those ports need a fair bit of room. But for my bedroom stereo... now that's where they really shine.

I LOVE wharfedale, i use diamond 9.1 front firing speakers on my sony ta-636 amp, they sound superb, you are right Z, a slight V is the british way of sound, you ought to hear how good wharfedale floorstanders are, fucking incredible even at low volume

Hi Z. How do you compare Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 vs Fluance Signature Series bookshelves? I have a feeling Fluance touts itself as the Canadian Wharfedales. I've had Wharfedale Diamond 7.1, 9.3 towers and 10.2. I also recently had Fluance XL5f which i sold to a friend.

I think you may be thinking of European plugs? They're two prong, in the UK we have three prong plugs where the plugs are rectangular prisms. not cylinders like in Europe.

Hey Zeos! What about Q Acoustics, did you hear about them? I own a pair of 2020i's and i love them in a similar desk setup like this. I think they are the DT880s of bookshelves (i have 880s too :) And it haz a same sized brother: the Concept 20 ;) They say it has very low distortion, i think you'd like them.

Hey Z, what's your opinion on this desk setup for a small/medium size room? Wharfedale Diamond 220s (on stands) + Yamaha A-S501BL amp + SVS SB-2000 sub Connections would go like this PC > OriGen+ > Yamaha > Wharfedale + SVS I'm looking for speakers that have a "n" sound sig, similar to the Shure SE846s. The Wharfedale Diamond 220s were described as this sound signature. I love the mids and especially the lows, not so much the highs. Any other suggestions or are the Wharfedales the way to go?

The fabric in the woofer is very stiff when new. My 220's took about 3 months to get really nice. Now they are really nice.

If you are going to review British speakers Zeos I highly recommend anything from Q Acoustics, particularly their 3000 line. I have a pair of 3010s and loved them. They are however the only speakers I've ever heard that actually sound worse upside down. I'm guessing the weight of the woofer on the case messed up their high frequency de-coupler? Either way when you turn them upside down they get really bright and sibilant.

Zeos you need to check out the NHT Classic 3. phenomenal monitor. I've had it for 8 years or so now and I have no wish to upgrade. Running it on a emotiva amp and a Yamaha avr.

Plugging speaker cable terminated with banana plugs directly into 13amp mains sockets sounds like an efficient way to possibly control the degrading gene pool but it actually can't happen, not in the UK anyway, physically impossible. Europe where they have daft power sockets, maybe.

They would deliver a slightly better bass but in my opinion it isnt worth it for the extra 50-75 dollars, becuase thats all they add an improvement over the 10.1 with is the bass, and even then it isnt much

I done a sound test at my local Richer-sounds to buy the Wharfedale's as they were cheapish and had decent reviews for £261, well after hearing 350 and 500 quid speakers i left with the Kef q350's for £450 and couldnt be happier.

I've heard 10.2 for a several years and I really enjoy listening to them but I find myself B6 more neutral, accurate & punchy. 10.2s got a quite warm sound but it's very enjoyable. I think Andrew Jones made something phenomenal with Elac Debut speakers. I would still recommend Wharfedale 10 Diamond series to anyone, they're very good value. I own full Elac debut setup.
