Zürich Bahnhof Enge

Opened in 1927 near the shoreline of Lake Zurich, Bahnhof Enge is the second largest railway station in Zurich in terms of the size of the termina building, but today only has two tracks and is mainly served by SBB commuter trains.
The landmark building is built of granite from Ticino and features an indoor atrium with a temple like ambiance. The rock architecture gives the building a distinct appearance, with a touch of southern Ticinese flair. The station terminal is flanked to the north and east by tram tracks and the station forecourt is an important tram interchange serving various lines from the municipal public transport company VBZ.
Before the direct tunnel from Zurich HB to Thalwil opened in 2000, all Intercity trains bound from Zurich to Luzern, Chur or further south over the Gotthard route still had to pass through Enge station, but since the Zimmerbergtunnel opened, the station has just become a busy hotspot for local and regional S-Bahn double-deckers. During peak hours, some loco-hauled trains still call at the station, as seen in this film with a Class 460 Bo-Bo pushing type EW IV coaches.
The FIFA World Football Museum is just across the street from Enge station as well.

Der markante Bahnhofsbau im Zürcher Enge quartier ist der zweite an dieser Lange. Der erste wurde 1875 eröffnet, zusammen mit der linksufrigen Zürichseebahn der damaligen Privatbahn NOB. Der erste Bahnhof war allerdings näher am See als der jetztige, welcher im Zuge der Verlegung der Zürichseebahn in den 1920er Jahren eingeweiht wurde. Dank dem Tessiner Granit wirkt der Bahnhofsbau sehr imposant, gleichzeitig hat er eine Eleganz die ohne viel Zusatzzier auskommt, ganz im Stile der funktionalistischen Architektur der damaligen Zeit.
