The problem with both the Oscar’s treasure chest and the yuxin magic box is that it is obvious that there is a secret in there. I have the Oscar’s treasure chest that has regular stickers on it, yet it is still obviously an Oscar’s treasure chest. It has a logo telling its a safe, it has an inverted color scheme and it’s 60mm instead of the regular ~57mm size that most cubes use. Also the yuxin is wayyy bigger than a regular cube. If both just presented themselves as regular 57mm speed cubes and didn’t say that it could open, than this mod wouldn’t be necessary

I wonder if a less cheatable version of this mechanism could be made if each individual hole was shaped differently somehow. That way, while the bottom 2 layers might still not ned to be sovled for it to open, the top layer will have to be arranged in a specific order.

I picked one of the YuXin's up for fun, and quickly realized the fatal flaw of only needing the white face solved to open, meaning to anyone who knows that, it's intuitive. But well, it's just for fun, so I don't really mind. Mine also has a bizarre manufacturing defect where the white center won't press down in the normal state, instead the white layer has to be a half-turn offset before you press it. I kinda like it.

The "cheat" way of opening those still requires someone to know what both of those are and before that requires someone to even care about a the cube. I'd say this is probably even safer than one of those fake cans as those are somewhat known so a thief might be more inclined to check for those.
