Imagine losing work you spent almost 20 years on because some leeches in business suits REALLY want that potential Fortnite money later when they could get good money right now by letting the studio do it's thing, not realising that live service enjoyers won't know what Disco Elysium is so they'll keep playing their GaaS of choice, and the people who do know what Disco Elysium is hate your guts now and will boycott your product. And when the studio inevitably crashes and burns the leech men from Resident Evil 0 who ran the company will learn nothing and blame the people lower on the totem pole for not listening to marketing research because God forbid they admit fault for once. That's Disco baby.

The worst part is those corpo leeches have history on their side. Blizzard and BioWare are companies that were held in high regard, sold to vampiric corporations, and even after the people responsible for their reputation left and the quality of their product dipped dramatically people still kept buying. These guys are playing the numbers game as they always do to see how much they can get away with for as little as possible and are calculating how many customers they'll lose in those numbers. The only thing that gives them pause is for those calculations to be completely wrong. Now Disco Elysium is more of a critical darling game with a smaller audience compared to the output of BioWare or Blizzard, that doesn't mean people won't give it a shot. Even if people who are angry just buy the game to see how it is with the regime change, it doesn't matter to the numbers. A sale is a sale no matter the intent.

@@amishrambo4096 It's baffling to me because despite what some people may think, GaaS titles can absolutely have passion and artistry put into them even with suits breathing down their necks, basically this isn't coming from an inherent hatred of GaaS titles, I play like 4 of them regularly and my username is based off a Rainbow Six Siege character (a GaaS title) but I just don't feel like this hypothetical "Disco Elysium: Infinite" is gonna have any kind of artistry to it. When even Call of Duty can inject personality and fun into their games but you probably can't, you probably shouldn't make a GaaS title.

I bought this game on a whim. Really, after my visit to AA, since I only came around every 6 months, I would go to the local GameStop and flirt with a girl who works/worked there. I remember seeing The Final Cut, googling it, and was like: good enough, and bought it just to flirt with this broad. The game has sat in my entertainment center, still wrapped in plastic, until earlier this week. I WIKI'd it, and since it was for XBOX ONE, I had to have bought the game sometime, after or around Oct. 12, 2021. I do a lot of dancing, 3-5 times a day, every fucking day, and I just don't play games as much as I used to. But since it's cold outside, here I am. This game impressed me. Not only because I can relate to Harry, being a huge drunk and forgetting how I got where I was whenever I woke up, but also because this game allowed for me to play as a Communist. I am a communist. Yeah, more especially after doing what we did over in Iraq . . . But this game is so fresh, so funny, it felt like it was made just for me. I beat it and immediately wanted to replay it. I googled to see if there was any new modes, like NG+, and then the next day fucking Collage Mode? Collage Mode? Trash. Anyway. Not that any of this matters. Myself and some people i know are gutted by this news. The game is one of the best and has a remarkable history. It really feels Almost dystopian that this huge artistic AND commercial succes was not enough to be the basis for at least a 2nd game...

It sucks it was great to be able to get a game from eastern euro communists that unlike modern progressive stuff had sympathy and a understanding of the world it didn’t really moralize to a great extent if you wanted to be a fascist you could idk the game had a real heart and humanity to it that Is hard to put into words disco elysium is up there with berserk for me for both being my favorite pieces of art/media ever it really inspires me and makes me want to one day hopefully create something as beautiful and emotional as these 2 pieces of media it’s corny but disco elysium and berserk mean a lot to me and to see both go down in the same years has been rough

Capitalists deal in commodities, things which are by definition interchangeable and may be produced en masse. This is all they command, and so as with any hierarch, they cannot imagine anything beyond it, beyond their grasp. Just as a property developer may see no issue with paving over a wetland, believing the ecosystem may simply be “rebuilt” at a later date if desired, so it goes with the cut-throats with a knife to the neck of culture. In “Capitalist Realism”, Mark Fisher remarks upon the the general sense of apathy and dread he saw in his university students (mostly millennials). He describes them as a generation whose every taste and affect had been triangulated in advance, standardized, commoditized, and sold back to them before they even knew they wanted it. A generation for whom all culture has been zombified by capital. I’d like to think, in spite of everything that’s happened, Disco Elysium was a thorough rebuttal of that notion.
@brandonmorel26582 жыл бұрын
How can Elysium and it's creators be above those notions when after all the game is still a product to be sold to the masses. As revolutionary and cool and edgy as it is, the game is still part of the paradigm.
@Squalidarity2 жыл бұрын
@@brandonmorel2658 Say what you will about DE, but it was absolutely not triangulated to anybody's taste. It exists within capitalism, yes, but its brief existence before its sublimation into the greater marketing mega-machine that is a sign that capital- or power writ large- can never hope to completely conquer culture. That genuine, novel art may yet be made. In the post-Cold War world of No Alternative, recognizing this is a revolutionary act.

We can't have nice things in this for profit world. Side note, on my first blind play through I didn't know what the political quests were, so I internalized the Ultra liberal thought simply because I was desperate for cash. I ended up with more points in Communism than Ultralib and the statue I got was covered in the white flowers and a morning veil. I honestly really liked it.
@brandonmorel26582 жыл бұрын
It's a cycle of birth and destruction. We live in a profit world and yet Disco Elysium happened and so many other wonderful things, ZAUM the cultural thingie were fired from their studio but that doesn't mean they can't concentrate their creative efforts elsewhere. PS I also went centrist/liberal in my first playthrough and then I realized I got played by Messier and effectively fucked the union and the people that relied on it. Fun Times.

Ok yeah it's poetic and kinda funny and perfectly appropriate how ZA/UM died off, but like... this actually does motivate me to end capitalism in some way, because this cannibalism and destruction of literally anything positive in the world that could possibly make 1 extra cent is fucking infuriating to just let slide.

And you won't because this same off the deep end capitalism has made your life greater then the kings of old. Between death and inconvenience you would rather not exist at all.
@k.-flynn2 жыл бұрын
@@RavenCloak13 mere inconvenience, huh? Companies like Nestle, Coke, Exxon, and Foxconn forcibly and lethally steal resources, starve populations, kill workers, employ paramilitaries, poison the population en masse, forge scientific studies, assassinate government leaders, manually slaughter whole species to extinction, and play with countries to start wars. Were the billions dead by a simple inadequacy to stock value given your strawman choice, or was freedom ripped from their hands by power, capital, greed, and flaccid government? You may claim there's nothing better, you may throw up your hands and cry about communism or monarchy or social democracy, or you'll probably just ignore it out of fear and laziness. But when the Earth is a fried ball in 50 years because of the economic system you prostrated in front of, then your corpse can have the freedom of inconvenience.

@@RavenCloak13 I don't know how this gets repeated so often when it's so obviously wrong but I guess that also applies to a lot of different supposedly "wise" sayings. Like no, living in an economy in which with 3 jobs a person is barely able to afford a 1 story 2 bedroom house that they have to split the rent with 3 other people to stay in doesn't make for a standard of living superior to an ancient king's.
@RavenCloak132 жыл бұрын

Not to mention most of those people your talking about fuck up and don't know how to budget and are stupid because the schools and their parents made them stupid thinking the schools would teach them while the school didn't teach them shit and legit KZbin is a better teacher. Why the fuck you think the US has an obesity problem even though said "obesity" is just slightly overweight. We objectively live better then kings. We have electricity, people barely pay rent anyway because whose going to kick you out? Fuckers making drugs and making hand over fist got busted for not paying rent for 2 years. Get out of here with people have problems paying rent. No, what people have problems with is expectation vs reality because again, didn't learn shit. You don't know what your talking about and just think every poor person doesn't deserve to be poor. News flash, lot of these fuckers (that I fucking know personally) caused themselves to be in the situation they are in and crab rules they pull others down. My fucking brothers are perfect examples of this. Ones got a high paying job, eats through 1000 dollars of food a week cause he's fat. How does one even broach a game like Life is strange or Disco Elysium as a TV show. You cannot. It's not just the story itself that makes it a unique and intriguing experience. It's everything. It's the hard moments where you really consider loading a save, but even if you could, you decide not to and just run with it. See where the rabbit hole goes. The choices and the Esprit de Corps with the character you are seeing the story through. The only way is to showcase the worst or best endings possible. You could very much make an interactive show like Bandersnatch, but that takes a lot of effort, and still would not feel the same as just playing the game. Not to mention the political agenda. They wanna bring something that has been extremely popular because it was not afraid of individuality, and caustic takes, into the mass of the first world where you can't bring in race at any point lest it upset some 20% of the viewers. They can't allow someone who is a hardened communist live and actually be content with himself survive in the show. Or an ultraliberal. In the show they need to pay, despire the fact that their existence in the game is there to SPITE the player's vies as Harry. Something the player could perceive in such a harsh way just being there, and there is nothing you can do about it. Like the Racist Lorry Driver, or Measurehead. They can't exist in a show made by Amazon, or netlifx. They would grate at the backs of Light Bending Investors.
