That was absolutely unbelievable! What a guy. What an artifact! What a beauty. Man I feel better.

19:20 they can fall in love and enter into a relationship with the opposite sex? Really, was it necessary to specify?

I am just curious wich part of this statement it was that bothers you?
@Fren-m3i5 ай бұрын
@@bradthunderpants3283 I would not go as far to say it bothered me. I just thought it seemed unnecessarily specific. The idea that it is fully acknowledged that someone can have such a love for another person that they would want to pledge a commitment to them for life with the caveat that it can only be a relationship with someone of the opposite sex seems to be rather non-zen. What is love for another but an intuition that tells you to form and maintain a strong connection with another person. To me it just seems that the differences between women and men, especially enlightened people, are superficial. To see such a definitive trait in oneself that does not allow you to be with another seems to me like someone putting to much value into aspects of their material self.

@@Fren-m3i Alan Watts died in 1973. This may throw some light on his wording of concepts.....the times they have changed and they go on changing who knows what will transpire in the fifty years from now. For sure this body I think is me will be dead and rotted long before then. I'm 75 now so time is short. Fifty years ago we were attuned in very much a different way; the decades roll on and something hidden and unborn keeps unfolding. The question is what is the reality of love that is unconditional and so universal and also manifest in the particular. Rumi said: "Love is a stranger." Also it said "Love comes with a knife". That is to say a knife into any sense of separation still left in the heart/mind. Where there is other; there is fear. Yet what will allow fear to die a natural death? Rumi said "Reason is powerless in the expression of love....If you want to live, die in Love, die in Love if you want to remain alive." And yes, it is possible for good koan training to lead one to die in Love. The Christian people say, "God is love". However what we know of love is not much. Love without the knowledge of reality that anchors the energy of love, misses the mark. I don't understand any or not much of what these words I wrote here mean. I just like to pass them on for what it might be worth. Just like I like the zen koan: The zen Master says to the attendant: "Bring me the rhinoceros fan." The attendant returns and says: "Master the rhinoceros fan is broken." The Master immediately says, "Then bring me the rhinoceros".

It's not click-bate dude. This is a book written by Alan Watts. You might have felt more satisfied if it were narrated by the author? But give it a chance. I think the narrator did a wonderful job and the message is still clear and beautiful, as with much of Alan's work. This one closes particularly well I feel.
