And this is what I find so great and different about you than other beauty channels....I've likely watched hundreds of beauty videos and no one explained that it was important to match silicone primer with silicone foundation. You not only said that but you showed how to determine it as well. I've felt many primers haven't worked so well and differently (even tho I only had high end ones ) but I never knew why that might be . I only started wearing makeup when I was 40 so I've had to learn basically everything and have learned I have a lot of things about my eyes/skin that isn't as easy to work with such as hooded eyes/very dry skin/mixed under tones/very pale/sensitive etc so I've bought a lot of makeup that did not work for me...I'm in Canada so makeup is more expensive, you can only return to two stores here so I hate wasting money on products that are horrible. You will mention things like "if you have dry skin this won't work for you" but most other ppl kinda stick to their own features and discuss that. You know your stuff and it really comes across. I also didn't know that peachy eyes would look ok with a darker lip. It's so nice to see someone embrace their pale skin and not fake tan!

I totally understand lady! Although I've worn makeup since I was a teen, I grew up before social media & didn't learn much from my mom or best friend because they didn't wear much makeup, so I learned as I went on my own. Plus I couldn't afford anything but drug store brands, (which I still prefer actually), so I knew so little about makeup until I was close to 40. I didn't even know what a primer or setting spray was, lol! I mean, if you didn't grow up talking makeup or grow up in this social media era, there's just so much you're going to miss :( Thank goodness for Zabrena & others like her, they're seriously changing my makeup game! You may want to try camerareadycosmtics.com they ship to Canada and they have professional and high-end makeup and you can order small samples to test shades and formulas for things like foundations and concealers. That way you wouldn't have to buy a full-sized product and have to give it away or pitch it if it didn't work for you. I got a sample of Sensual Skin Enhancer and it lasted me over 6 months.

I miss these videos!!! I also have oily skin and LOVE the Covergirl True Blend primer. I found it in a whim on sale at a discount store and it works so good. The ELF primers work well for my skin also. I’m currently using the Maybelline primer, but not the clear one, I’m using the green correcting one. I like it a lot, I haven’t had any issue with being shiny at the end of the day, and I’m a grease pit. I also like the Milani primers as well, I’ve tried the clear, the peach, and the illuminating one. I was pleased with them all.

The elf primer is my all-time favorite! I have the greasiest complexion and with something like Smashbox or Porefessional I get about 4-5 hours before I'm shining like a disco ball. With the elf I get like 9-10! They just put out a "foundation glue" primer I'm dying to try!

I was hoping to see the NYX Angel Veil getting reviewed. I have heard it is a dupe for the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer which is the only one I will use. I have very oily skin too and the Hourglass primer actually does prolong the wear of my foundation and, while my oils still break through by lunchtime, somehow the primer has prevented the foundation from breaking down, which usually happens by then. For long days I wear the Estee Lauder Double Wear Light because I prefer a lighter weight foundation with coverage.

I love the ELF green color correcting primer. I think it is called the Tone Adjusting primer. I didn’t find it oily and it did help cover some redness.

I tried the color-correction approach for a while a few years ago, for my red nose and dreadfully dark under eye area. I gave it up because it wasn’t particularly helpful and therefore it was a waste of time and just cluttered up my makeup space. But ELF isn’t pricey, so I may go ahead and give the one you use a try. I have had great luck with the Elf primer as well as the Rimmel Stay Matte primer. My skin is pretty normal, but I do tend to get an oily t-zone from time to time. I don't use much product when I use them, but they have held up well for me when I have used them.

I have large pores, oily skin and bonus, live in Florida so it feels like finding a good primer is like finding the holy grail. I LOVED the elf primer with my Colorstay foundation, but due to some surgical scarring, I needed to change to the Kat Von D Lock It and I have not found a decent primer, yet. It's water based and the struggle is real.

Hey the Rimmel Matte primer (purple packaging) is great and if you pair it with the L’Oréal full coverage foundation It’s a great combination and lasted all day. L'Oreal Perfecting Base primer is amazing too for matte all day, as well as smoothing. And the revolution spray is great to keep any foundation locked.

I also have super oily skin and have been looking for a good primer lately. I do like the elf one and recently have been liking the rimmel stay matte primer. yesterday I tried a new one it was the nyx tea tree and WOW after 12 hours I still had no oil shinning through and my foundation hadn't broke down it was definitely a new experience for me I was super impressed. I didn't even want to take off my makeup when I got home because it still looked as great as when I applied it. you should definitely check it out to see if you have the same luck. I think it is going to be my holy grail go to from now on lol!

NYX Angel Veil is my jam, I don’t wear foundation and this stuff makes me look poreless, I’m pretty oily too, especially during that wonderful time of the month, I don’t notice it clogging my pores any more than usual ( my nose and chin get pretty clogged ) I highly recommend this ! I will say that you have to make sure you really work it into the skin if you do t out product over it because it may still look white on the skin, and I’m pretty pale too ! Hope this helps someone ! Valeri Oliva Angel Veil looks okay on me at first though it still has a bit of a cast(which is okay since my face is darker than my neck) but once I put any type of foundation or concealer on top it turns patchy.

Great video! Oddly enough I love the Maybelline primer, however I have very dry skin so that is likely why. I really want to try the Elf primer but when I hear a product working for someone with oily skin I'm worried it won't work for me. I started using primer last Christmas and the only ones I have used is the maybelline master prime and the wet n wild. I’ve repurchased the wet n wild primer 4 times this year and it lasts a hell of a long time. I’m not sure if it works or not because I’m not a professional at makeup and I don’t wear makeup often (but I do play with it every day) because I don’t go out a lot lol

It’s not drug store, but it does have a “drug store” price. It’s ‘The Ordinary’ primers. And if I’m not wrong, they have one for oily complexions and another for dry, maturer complexions (but go check that out for yourself). Ridiculously inexpensive for what they provide and I believe that’s their company policy. Super products all round. Please do a wear test on as many of them as you can, Zabrena, thank you.

Jan R I didn’t care for the anti-aging one. It left me extremely shiny & the bottle was leaking. Their regular silicon primer was okay for filling in lines but for me it offered little to nothing as far as oil/shine control or makeup longevity. It’s so very strange to me how people either really like it, or really dislike it. I’ve never seen reviews so incredibly polar opposite lol

I also HAD extremely oily skin and the only thing that helped my skin and makeup was using aloe Vera gel as a primer. Using it over time it has balanced my t zone soooo much and helped my makeup stay on💗💗💗

I learned the hard way that I am allergic to aloe vera! Before you lather it all over your face, please do a test patch. Just because you have used products that say that they contain aloe vera and you haven't had a reaction, doesn't mean that you aren't allergic to it. Please save yourself the painful (not to mention I looked horrible too!) experience and take the time to do a wear test. That being said, if you aren't allergic, I hope that it works well for you!

Yeah I stopped using a cream face lotion and started using an aloe Vera moisturizing gel that I got on Amazon and my face is soooooo much less oily than it used to be! Deff one of my favorite purchases I've ever made ;)

Hands down my favourite primer is by The Ordinary. It is the only primer that works for me without causing my skin to feel very constricted. I often mix it with my foundation and apply them together because layering up product after product causes my hot flushes to affect me much more and I end bright red with most of my make up down by my neck!

Nermin Badwi U sometimes use the Maybelline Dream Satin foundation, but in winter their range isn't pale enough so I either use The Ordinary coverage or serum foundation is the present shade or Rimmel's 9 in 1 BB cream in very fare

Jazmine Morales hi there, I actually bought both but I get the best result with the serum foundation if I use the high adherence primer. I often mix them both together and apply them at the same time. I get fewer issues with menopause hot flushes if I put them on in one layer rather than building them up

Zabrina you need to try Rimmel’s stay matte primer. It really helps w/oil control. Side note: use it in conjunction with a pore filling primer bc the Rimmel goes on like a lotion - it doesn’t feel like a primer at all.

Kristy Kelly I haven’t purchased one lately, but I’m almost due for a new one. It definitely helps w/oil control, but as I said earlier, I use it in conjunction with a pore filling primer because the Rimmel one doesn’t really do anything outside of controlling oil. So, take it for what it’s worth I suppose. I will see if the formula is different though when I repurchase. 😊

Gah! I could kick myself! I ALMOST bought the Elf one the other day, but went with LA Girl instead. I'm not in love. I may have to pick up the Elf one today. I don't have problems with oil as much as pores. Thanks for a great review as always.

Thank you for all of this detail! However, this video did highlight my biggest makeup issue - such an intense lack of silicone-free primers, especially in the drugstore! Silicone breaks me out HORRIBLY, and it's so hard to find ones that are water-based, let alone decent. Heck, I looked and realized there's dimethicone in a ton of my moisturizers too! The Hard Candy silicone-free is decent (Pore Defense, I believe). I've gotten the new ELF silicone-free, but I haven't tried it yet. I've used good old Nivea Mens Post Shave Balm, but it doesn't do much for me. Other than that, Too Faced Hangover Rx both the lotion and the spray are my new favorites, just so expensive! I really hope more affordable silicone-free primers start to come out and they are actually decent products. Thank you for taking so much time to really explain all of this!

There is a makeup website called Hush. They have a $2 and under category and they were selling a primer that was only $2!!! I tested it out and it was actually really good. It kept my makeup in place and it didn't slide off but I did end up with a bit of shine at the end of the day (oily skin here 😂). The primer is called Santee Face Primer. "Oil-Free, Foundation Primer, Long-Lasting and Natural finish." (These are the claims) it is a primer, it is long last , it gave me a little natural finish but it wasn't really oily free. I still like it though.
