The Shakuhachi, the infinitely difficult, expressive and bendable flute, all renewed. What incredible mastery.

I like the inspiration from the composer Joe Hisaishi. Just with the first chord, we are immediately in Japan at the beginning of a great journey. The rest speaks for itself. I love it!

Hi Zac and Kana-chan: I came across you Zac a few years ago and I'm enthralled with the combination. Having the ethereal flute in the beginning with the accompanying piano, going back and forth with Jazz and the more traditional sound really bring tears of inspiration to me. Great sound, great team!

It's really cool how the music sounds like he is really into it while his body is completely still. Just goes to show how much focus it takes to make great music!

I'm a undergraduate student from Japan who has also been playing the Shakuhachi for 3 years, and I have to admit I am amazed by your talent and mastery with the instrument. Your music is really beautiful, and I really enjoy the way you introduce techniques like Muraiki and Tamane into Jazz. P.S. I'd love to know which Shakuhachi you're using! Is it made in Japan?

中村こうあ thanks! I play a Senshu shakuhachi, their shop is in Komae just outside of Tokyo!

Tamane is also common on western concert flute. It's just a shakuhachi flutter tongue. There's tamane and tabane, not sure which one was flutter with the tongue and which with the epiglottis I believe. I've only really been able to properly use the one with the tongue yet. And muraiki is something I personally implement without too much thought, to emphasize/empower/forte certain notes.

This is by far one of the greatest pieces of music I've ever heard. Crossing in between and mixing seamlessly such a large amount of colors of music. True genius. I'm looking forward to hearing the rest of your album Mr. Zinger!
