Edey is superior in every way to Clingan!

Did you know, Edey is the first draft prospect since Shaq went #1 overall in 1992 at 7' 1" or taller to post 750+ pts. in a college season. The only other guys to do it: Wilt, Kareem, and David Robinson, all #1 picks, HoFers, and multiple title winners. And Edey's 983 pts in college is 80 points above all those guys, against arguably better defenses. Also, Yao was averaging 38 ppg in Chinese league before going #1 in 2002. Another HoFer who probably wins some titles if he stayed healthy. So literally we have not seen a player like this in over 10 years since Yao and Shaq retired. It's not that Zach isn't ready for the NBA, it's more that the NBA isn't ready for Zach. He's coming into a league full of undersized bigs who are optimized for perimeter defense. He's going to eat all these little league smallball centers for lunch while having 30+ PPG, 15+ RPG, and 3+ BPG easy while fouling out the other team. Dude is literally a Yao + Wilt hybrid. Every GM who passes on him will be fired within 3 years, guaranteed.

That's a bit higher on him than I am, but I think him becoming a 20/12 all-star is entirely plausible. Being really tall and good at putting the ball in the basket is still valuable.

Zach Edey is bigger, longer, quicker, faster, a better shooter and just essentially a better and more skilled basketball player than Donovan Clingan. He won the national collegiate player of the year both in 2023 and 2024, finishing above every other player in American collegiate basketball (obviously, including Donovan Clingan) two years running. He kicked *** at the combine too, with a significantly better showing than Clingan. Why can't people see this. The spurs having two 7-foot 4-inch players on the court at the same time? Who has ever heard of such a thing?

Clingan is so much better defensively. This is a case of archetype. Edeys skills aren't as valuable in todays game, while Clingans ability to serve as a defensive anchor, rebounder and screen setter are super valuable. Else, guys like Jahlil Okafor would be tremendous players in todays game.

Jahlil Okafor’s career got screwed by Philly drafting him. Dude scored 19 ppg his rookie season, and could have improved defensively every year if a team was willing to invest in him. He was one of the few rookie centers to ever go toe to toe with another elite center. Boogie Cousins in his prime only got challenged by two rookie centers. Jahlil Okafor (rookie year) and Joel Embiid (redshirt year). I do believe some careers get ruined not because of lack of translatable talent, but also because they were drafted to the wrong place. 76ers only drafted him because he was the best available talent, and planned to trade him later for another lotto draft pick or two firsts as soon as Embiid got healthy. Then when they couldn’t rip anybody off, they gave him to the Nets, who didn’t have faith in him, and his career went down the drain, because a stigma was created against him that he couldn’t be a useful player in the modern NBA, and everyone believed it, so no one gave him a chance other than being a back-up. Even when he was a back-up, when he came into the game, he made noticeable impact, but he could never shake that stigma, and after 4 years of dealing with that, there was nothing he could do to change public opinion. The funny thing is that its hard to call him a bust, because offensively his game translated to the NBA. Every time he got significant minutes he put up points, but he could never get minutes, because of the stigma of him being a defensive liability. The sad thing is that you have all these guards and wings coming into the NBA, that can’t put up 19 ppg in their rookie year or go toe to toe with a superstar at their position, and they don’t play a lick of defense, but teams will look past it, because it’s wings and guards that are the face of the modern NBA, which is such a stupid double standard.

Edey playing for the Spurs as a backup to Wemby just makes too much sense. Sharing minutes, foul load and some situational fourth quarter lock down rim defense with Wemby at the 4. Not mention I could see either Edey or Wemby lobbing to each other at the post, feels like should be 2 pts on every possession.

@@Genghiskoz you do know the Spurs have 2 picks before the Knicks that and he'll probably not last past pick 15.

Two slow dinosaurs. Teams will not guard neither outside the paint nor wait on their slow asses to get down court.

Donovan Clingan is overrated, defensively he'll be good. Everything else just blah
