What the Heck is a Rain Garden?
Zach Eichholtz, Chief Resilience Manager for the City of Cape Canaveral discusses how the Veteran's Memorial Park Smart Rain Garden near City Hall and the Public Library works. As he says "They re-wilded the Park"
The rainwater enters the rain garden from the streets in 3 areas. It is absorbed by the materials and plants chosen for this project by a landscape architecture team and the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS). They include Coontie Palms, Sandcord grasses, Cannes, Milkweed, and others. (Love the Milkweed for the Monarchs!) The Live Oaks were all left and can take up a lot of water.
