I'm friends with Zach in real life and he's a wonderful, humble, gentle, kind-hearted guy. He's such a good soul. He's NOTHING like his malicious, hateful, cold-hearted family members. He skipped that evil gene that runs in his family for sure. He explained to me several times that whenever he'd picket, it was never in his heart to hurt anyone. All he wanted to do was be loved by his family and find approval from them, and that's why he went along with the protests. He broke down crying to me about how guilty he felt. This is a wonderful guy.

They're probably all decent at heart, just brainwashed and conditioned to believe bullshit about God's wrath if they leave. I was brainwashed to believe that deliberately missing Sunday Mass meant an eternity in Hellfire, so, I decided to take God on, and, instead of gong into the church, hid in the grotto, awaiting, for a full, fearful hour, the thunderbolts of Yahweh to zap me into Hell. As you can see, this never happened. After that, I was cured of my conditioning. All sacerdotal humans are LIARS.

Barbi Kelly in my church im Lutheran and we wont tell anyone that theyre going to hell if they miss church for a while, i havent been to church in 6 months, i doubt ill go back, the more i go into my church the more angry i get with it, it could be because its full of Hypocrites who only care about themselves... i thought about going to a Reformed Church BUT my Lutheran upbringing stepped in and i decided against it, the Reformed Church of America and Presbyterian Church of America are both 2 different churches but with the same theology which is Calvinism

***** Well said, Cathy. Not one of them back their claims with an atom of evidence, so why listen to any of them? Christians have had 2,000 years to do it; and have failed miserably. I was discussing religion recently with a fellow passenger on a cruise, and he opined that Buddhism is the way which fosters harmony and kindness. I almost choked on my dinner. Obviously he was unaware of the appalling theocracy that had ruled Tibet, and had never read anything about the perennial problems in Thailand and other parts of South East Asia. Organised religion? Just say NO!

Anyway, I am named after Thomas Phelps Stowall, U.S. Admiral, and the battleship U.S.S. Phelps was named after him. The U.S.S. Phelps was at Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7th., 1941, and not only was it not sunk; it shot down a Japanese plane. After WWII, Grandpa became Captain of the U.S.S. St. Paul, and his First Mate was John McCain's Dad. John McCain II had previously been Captain of The U.S.S. Carp. It was in the middle of their tour of duty together, while Herman Wouk's "The Caine Mutiny" was number one on the New York Times, that my parents got married. And that's how, yours truly, Thomas Phelps Karp, came into this world. Zach, Megan, Libby, Nathan, you are all mutineers! As I recall, so was Fletcher Christian!

So, Grandpa was Captain of the U.S.S. St. Paul, and his First Mate was John McCain's Dad; but I was named after one of his cousins, Captain Thomas Phelps Stowall; the U.S.S Phelps being named after him (and me). John McCain's Dad served on the U.S.S. Carp before he joined my Grandpa's ship. I am Thomas Phelps Karp. The last time I saw Grandpa was April of 1970; my brother was on tour with Jimi Hendrix; and this song was entering the record charts: "Ride, Captain, Ride' by 'Blues Image'. Who lived up the road from me was Terry Knight, manager of Grand Funk Railroad. I remember the first time I heard-"I'm Your Captain (Closer To Home)." Zach, do you still read the Bible at all? Acts 27.

As you know by now, Zach, I am also a Phelps, and I was baptized in a Baptist Church by a Pastor Zacharias. My paternal grandfather was a Jewish atheist, who spent his life as a lawyer for the Warner Bros. movie studio during it's 'golden years'. My maternal grandfather was a German-American U.S. Naval officer, who had a number of Phelps' in his family tree; and I am named after one of them. I have a great photograph on him, taken June 5, 1944, off the coast of England, aboard ship. He's standing next to King George VI, and is shaking his hand, after he, Grandpa, gave a speech to assembled British and American soldiers. Where did the Westboro Phelps' get the idea that G-d hates American Veterans? No offense, Zach, but I think your Granddad needed a speechwriter.

While all that was going with my Grandfather, John McCain's Dad, and my namesake, Thomas Phelps Stowall, then Lieutenant Jimmy Carter was serving on the U.S.S Comfret, leading prayer services and Bible studies. He is a Baptist. Shortly before Christmas, 2015, I was at Wednesday prayer service at the Baptist church I was then attending when I started to pray outloud for Jimmy Carter, who was then dying of brain cancer. Pastor Zacharias, the man who baptized me, was leading the service. A few days later, the news came over Christian radio (WIHS, Middletown, Ct.) that Jimmy Carter had been miraculously cured.
