My whole golfing life (43 years) I’ve waited for an excuse to not turn. Mission accomplished! Thank you sir!

Thank you sir, I love this advice! When I concentrate on a full shoulder turn, I lose the ball and get too flat. Funny thing is I just watched an online instructor demonstrate starting the swing like pulling on a lawnmower...lol. The only "issues" I have with fully understanding this video is how to initiate the swing? Great stuff, keep it up!

It's been a journey for me! Your talking about turning your shoulders is essentially a swing modification I have recently made with very promising results. Buy, I went at it from the ground up though. I realized that "voluntarily" turning my hips was my problem. My biggest issue was frequently hitting it fat as I couldn't get back to the ball consistently resulting in the fat shots. Since my swing change I rarely hit it fat. I looked at T. Finau. B. Todd, and J Rahm who all have short backswings. They create so much torque by having minimal hip rotation. I actually flex and somewhat stiffen my lower body as I take the club back to minimize the hip rotation. I hit it farther, straighter, and consistently make solid contact. I call it the amateur's swing. It simplifies everything. Watching baseball players showed me that hip rotation was not something they do. Most start in a neutral position and swing from there. As you have said in past videos it's all about torque. I enjoy all of your info and it's helped. This swing change though has been a game changer.

Wow that is a great explanation. Very well done and glad that you are hitting it better.

Thanks for this great demonstration young man - I've always battled a somewhat collapsed left arm and now realize I was actually collapsing my right arm and taking the left arm with it! 90 degrees is it!

Hi Zachary, a couple of years ago I was told to turn my shoulders, it did make me hit the ball further, however now I am having trouble with my alignment, sometimes it goes left and sometimes right, once in awhile it goes straight, now I can’t wait to try this method. Thanks for this great tip. By the way I’m 77 years young, 😁.

Thanks, Zach, I try also to minimize my weight shift, and when I watch good golfers especially Hogan, I see a significant amount of weight remaining on the lead foot during the backswing.

Thank you, Zach! I was at GolfTec yesterday and that over rotated, ugly, incorrect position with arms/hands behind my head that you demonstrated is exactly what I looked like in the video screen - ugh!! Can’t wait to try your drill to fix my backswing once and for all! Thank you again!!🙏🏻🙏🏻

Very helpful Zach. I came to my present coach with that incorrect turning motion and flat backswing. I think your description is gonna help me understand what I’m doing conceptually.

The swing gets impossibly complicated the more turn, more arm and wrist motion, and more moving parts. And really it’s not powerful either.

zach, this is a horse of a different color compared to a lot of the modern teaching of tuning in the pivot driven swing. it's more like old school from the 70's and 80's but i like it.

Absolutely! Positively! Just as you demonstrated: Do not deliberately start and finish your golf swing with turning your hips. Your hip turn is a reaction to your swing; never an action Percy Cooper spoke of swinging in a barrel. I now suggest that the so call barrel is the rolling rib cage of our bent chest. So let the good times roll. Let your arms and hands extend as you swing your club back and forth in a rolling barrel. Stay inside your golf posture and never chase after the ball. Your rolling barrel will turn your body approximately as well; as it creates the centrifugal force for your club head to smash directly through your ball. Bringing you up to your glorious finish. Don’t worry: Swing Happy😊Cheers

Great vid, as always. One comment: once you get your lead arm set up at the top, your trail is definitely not at 90. Also, would you please do a video on driver? There is a lot of misinformation out there!

I measure my club head speed with an inexpensive device. When I shortened my turn my speed actually went up. When I turn big, club head speed goes down . Not sure this works but my radar confirms this lesson over and over

Zach when you raise your lead arm your turn increases and you are approaching 90 degrees... in my opinion. Most people don't turn enough in my opinion...

True this can be the case, but I believe far more are over turning or improperly turning. Plus the full turn can be somewhat of an illusion.

I don’t wish to get bogged down in semantics, but the end result of this movement has to be a coiling of the thoracic vertebrae. If I think of turning my body I’m prone to turn the lumbar segments too much and while my shoulder line is 90 degrees from the target, I lack any separation between my upper core and the hips. I like the way you explain the concept. I was working on something similar the other day: turning but leaving my belt buckle behind until it was pulled around by my upper core, then starting the downswing by returning my belt buckle to the midline and planting my lead foot solidly. It helped me square the club face of my driver and increased ball speed.

I think the title is not correct. Its really dont turn your hips/waist. You will turn your shoulders but its not on purpose but what it naturally does if you want that left arm still connected.
