Fun fact: instead of using a unique model, Brawl Sonic actually uses his model from Secret Rings with the muzzle swapped out on the fly for the mouth.

Pit in Brawl had most of his special moves changed in Smash 4 onwards and Sonic deserves the same treatment. Maybe one day, Sakurai will give Sonic some brand new moves based on the modern games, especially from Sonic Frontiers as Sakurai himself enjoyed the game.

Sonic was very clearly a last minute addition to Brawl, as even though I enjoy playing as him in that game, he definitely feels quite glitchy and underdeveloped compared to later games. This is also why he doesn't show up in Subspace Emissary until the final boss, since Sakurai literally didn't have enough time to add Sonic to the main story without changing things significantly.

Sonic's come up in Smash was wild. From being fast but weak in Brawl, to being insanely strong in Smash 4, and being King of the Timeouts in Ultimate. All that and he had no significant moveset changes. Amazing. Also YEAAAAHHH I'M IN HEREEEE!!!!!

Smash 4 was when Sonic was truly “King of the Timeouts.” Wrath, Ken, and Komorikiri were always seen as hyper defensive back then (when Sonic could shield cancel his spin dash)

Me and my brothers instituted a houserule in Brawl that for every time you play Sonic who is super fun (while janky) you need to punish yourself by playing Bowser either the previous or following round, as he's extremely unsatisfying to play.

Will forever baffle me that he never officially got the Sonic Battle axe kick in Smash. It was even on the cover! Still, mained him since Brawl and always found it interesting conceptually that a character you'd think would be aggressive and rushdown centric thanks to their mobility actually works best as a defensive hit and run character. Sonic is literally the reason I picked up Corrin as a secondary. I normally play Joker, but Sonic is his worst matchup. So I googled Sonix’s matchup chart, saw Corrin listed as even (there are no bad matchups on Sonix’s matchup chart), and decided to try them out. Good news is, I discovered that Corrin’s a fun character anyway, but that should really tell you how bad it is when I pick up another character just to beat one

I never thought Sonic was badly designed because of its reliancy on curling moves since that's basically what the grand majority of the public would know Sonic for. Like if people added something specific from 06 or the boost from Unleashed back in brawl people would have be like "Why is Sonic doing those moved when I only want him to turn into a ball?"

I really hope that the next smash focuses more on reworking old characters. obvoiusly sonic is mostly just spindash the character but I'm talking about characters like Mario or Gannondorf. Mario hasn't been changed at all except for a few animations since melee where he got 1 new move because smash 64 didn't have side specials. and gonnondorf is probably the character with the most missed potential. he has so much reference material and none of it is used except for his smash attacks. also a new Fzero character would be nice and just making Blood Falcon with gannondorf's current moveset would be pretty much perfect.

don't get me wrong but could making sonic more balanced just be to lower the knockback growth of his moves but increase the base knockback so that he's less combo focused. also just decrease his move priority and defensive ability such as worse ledge and prone options esspecially heavier landing lag. final change I would make would be to replace sonic's down air and give his fast fall that speed. sonic's down air could be replaced with something simple like that kick everyone want's to be his forward air but just towards the screen instead of to the side it still spikes though.

give him wisp like color power as powerful KO powers, with a meter that decays every second. The meters grows when ever he deals and take damage. His base moveset is same as ultimate but less ko power and knockback, and is lighter, but is circumvented with wisp color powers. on 50: he can use wisps as weapons. on 100: he can transform into the color power. on 150: he can use final smash. on 200: he wins the game.

I played Sonic since Brawl In Brawl I think Sonic deserved to be higher because to me he did well against certain characters and could open them up. I think he beat Ike and Pit while giving Marth a lot of trouble. I loved playing Sonic against Marth's, making them think it was a losing MU. I am glad Sonic is strong in 4 and Ultimate. He had a amazing glow up.
