They should make the bottom of CPUs small rounded lumps and the socket a little pad for the rounded lump to touch
@FastHemiАй бұрын
Excellent idea
@Jopic4 күн бұрын
I get what your going for here but this would probably cause contact issues with the surface area of each lump. pins with pressure act like springs ensuring all of them maintain contact, where as a rounded surface will build on each would build pressure on whichever one is ever so slightly larger than the rest and possibly cause nearby points to lose connection. There’s also the space concern with making the pins round while ensuring there is no shorting.

„I didn’t check for bent pins but before installing the CPU I checked for bent pins.“

A few years ago, while troubleshooting my PC, I found a single bent pin. This was a 7th gen Intel, so I guess easier than AM5. I used a toothpick to nudge it back into place. You could barely see which one was originally bent. Then, a few minutes later, I was using a paper towel to wipe up some paste, and the paper towel dragged across the socket. Oh, man, did I feel stupid. I spent 10 or 15 mins trying to pick out bits of paper individually. And then I came up with the idea to dab a cotton ear swab with some alcohol, and drag that in the direction the pins were supposed to go. Surprisingly, that did an amazing job of cleaning up the bits of paper. Then, I spent an hour or two straightening pins, one by one with the toothpick method. I may have used fine tweezers for a few. And, the second surprise: It worked.

@MikaeruDaiTenshi3 ай бұрын
Couple years a go i completely built a pc together, i don't like doing that, because I'm afraid of putting in the CPU+Paste. I put the CPU in the socket, secured it, which made a nasty noise, and a couple seconds later, the "lock" jumped open. And so did the frame. And the CPU. The CPU probably landed on the socket and actually bent several pins. PC refused to boot beyond Bios, and i had to replace the motherboard....

I was building a PC for my coworker, and he did an AM5 build. I decided for my platform that I would do a video for it, and wanted to look nice so I got these white cotton gloves to wear while doing the build. The problem with that, is when I went to install the CPU, it pinched part of my glove between the socket and the CPU, and being cotton, it basically velcro'd to three of the pins. I lift my finger out and I just hear this terrifying metal ripping sound. I was certain that I completely ripped the pins out, however they were just bent upwards. They are super durable for their size, and I managed to bend them back in place using tweezers from a phone repair kit.
