It goes back to the big issue here with the DCEU that Marvel always schools over them creatively. They usually rely on writers and filmmakers that not only care about the character, but find compelling and entertaining ways to modernize them for audiences everywhere (the major successes at least and most of the bangers in Phase 3). Something that WB and DC films have had a consistent problem in, most of which are hack writers that clearly stick to a stale narrative formula and clearly have no love or understanding of the characters at all.
@Susanoo71083 жыл бұрын
Not really. They simply decided to go for a big team up at the start followed by solo films. It's hardly deconstructing a cinematic universe and more them trying to approach making one differently to Marvel. A few things to point out... 1.) the "4 hour cut" of the film has a 10 minute "interlude" in between... kind of like old epic films back the day used to. 2.) Zack originally had the Justice League story arc split into 3 films (pt1, pt2, and pt3). 3.) There is a massive amount of new content that was part of Snyder's original vision and story arc, with several new key characters (DeSaad, Granny Goodness, Iris West, etc). Snyder also confirmed he will not be using ANY of the Whedon reshoots in his film. 4.) Batman's "vision" in BvS wasn't just a dream. It was an actual warning of the future from the Flash's Speed Force (time travel). In the "knightmare" future, Darkseid has taken over the earth, Lois Lane is dead and Superman went insane with rage, and was manipulated by Darkseid to take over by his side. Only Batman, Flash, Cyborg and a few others remain as a "resistance"... and they seek a way to go back in time to warn that "Lois is the Key."

The trailer had plenty of footage from the original film with a few added scenes. The black superman costume stuff, some clips of Darkseid "I think", even the Joker showing up. Why is the Joker even there? Wasn't his line cringe-worthy? Why would he talk about a "lack of honor" in the current society? Doesn't that mean there will be too many characters to juggle when they have a lot already? Do they not think of these things? It's almost delusional. Right now, people are cancelling cable in droves. They need something to replace that. Getting into streaming is the best option. Sure, they can cut some deals with Netflix or Disney+ to have them included in their internet and cell phone bundle, but they'll have to split the profits. With a streaming service they own, they get to keep all the profits. And depending on how the net neutrality thing shakes out, AT&T may eventually be able to throttle internet speeds to their competitors. They're already doing something similar in some markets where if you use their internet service, you get unlimited data when streaming their stuff.

The first JL film was an attempt at copying the Marvel formula to the point that they brought in Whedon to replicate the Avengers. I like that ZS's JL is different and his own style, rather than copying Avengers. I don't need 2 franchises of quirky superheroes doing the same stuff. Chris is also one of those people who preferred Christopher Reeve's Superman, but tonally its off with this franchise and I personally didn't like that superman. For ZS's final sendoff i'm glad WB let him do a rated R, because thats a big F-U to Disney style films. That makes no sense. There will be more connectivity to Man of Steel and BvS, the Knightmare/Injustice concept will be further explored, and on top of that there are a LOT of fans of Man of Steel and BvS, hence this whole project being greenlit in the first place.

What’s strange to me is, Snyder’s fanbase can’t stand that he “still” gets met with criticism, they don’t get how people react negatively to any of this news. When did Snyder prove himself as someone who provides consistent great content? All his films are flawed and a solid half were disliked by not just the critics, but general public. I’m excited for the Snyder cut and I enjoy some of his previous films, I think Man of Steel is incredible, but that doesn’t mean this movie is going to succeed on all fronts. Skepticism comes with all prominent comic-book related films, not including the MCU because in their case they HAVE proved to us that they are capable of consistently engaging storytelling. I hope this is great for all of us - skeptics and devoted fans.

What we can't stand, is the constant hate and death threats Snyder is receiving on a daily basis. Snyder has proved himself as a consistently great filmmaker after making the near perfect adaptation that is Watchmen.

Skepticism of Snyder's films is fine, but why is it okay to paint broad strokes of his fandom as "toxic" or "cult-like" when most simply like his vision of the DCEU and want to see more? They're pretty passionate about seeing this, and I don't understand why people bitch and moan about another one of his films coming out when they can just, idk not personally see it? He gets a lot of unnecessary hatred for simply making his movies his way, when there are far worse directors out there in Hollywood. And this is coming from someone who is intrigued by it, despite not seeing any of the DCEU movies 🤷♀️
@jakubrejak11143 жыл бұрын
@@thething1710 I know right? Everyone hates on Snyder for being weird and edgy, but they can't even examine themselves. I am one of his fans since long and every single movie he's made is at least good (from what I've seen) and visually stunning. BvS and Watchmen are his _magnum opus_ IMO.
@angelacosta14123 жыл бұрын
Glad he brought up Burton having Batman kill. Nolan & Schumacher did it too but only Snyder gets shit for it. The more or less clip was from the Snyder Cut so they unintentionally gave Zack props. The movie clearly has colors so I don't see why they keep criticizing it. People complain about a 4 hour movie but will binge watch an entire season of a show in one sitting

DC giving in to fans is sad, now they have shown the DC fans can get what they want by crying and screeching. I wouldn’t be surprised if DC “crowdsourced” their work, making fans vote on “who fights who” and “who wins” and “what epic meme will the Joker say” so they can make a film that even DC fanboys can be happy of.

Edited to add: Was Christopher Nolan always a producer for this film? I just noticed that... / I'd rather it be dark than the plot holes and mess with the Whedon version...I mean it is Snyder if you think he is giving up his darker palette it wouldn't be Synder lol
@Aaron_Kuroiwa3 жыл бұрын
I believe he has always been given producer credit even though he hasn’t been involved with the movies going all the way back to Man of Steel. As for the Whedon version, that was a crammed mess of a project and the plot holes imo are attributed more or less to production as opposed to the tone of the story. Also I would rather not the movie get too caught up with having to explain everything like the extended cut of Dawn of Justice, the audience should get some credit and over explanations kind of just ruing the pacing. The “Dark” color palette Snyder uses is also kind of a bullshit point of contention, the biggest knock has always been his quality of storytelling.
@cameronharrington68133 жыл бұрын
@@Aaron_Kuroiwa He was an actual producer on Man of Steel because he literally came up with the idea and had David Goyer write the script, bring it to Snyder and his wife during dinner, and then was on set for several days during the shoot. He is the only reason that movie didn't get dicked with, unlike BvS and Justice League. Nolan believed in that vision, and after the first one he let Snyder do his own thing, and continued to make his own movies. I wish Nolan had time to be a full on producer on the others because I think this whole thing never would have happened. As for why Zack wouldn't want to lean on Nolan for help with the studio, that's kinda a trashy thing to do. No easy way of bringing that up.
@kronosleblu8883 жыл бұрын
So let me get this right, Chris wants DC to stay true to the characters. Yet goes on to not even bring this up when reviewing marvel movie's? You do realize the Mandarin, Thor, vision, iron man, winter soldier, Red skull, Baron Zemo etc etc characters in the MCU are nowhere close to how they ARE in the comics? I am really getting tired of the double standards. We all need to start being fair and reasonable with entertainment and logic.

Snyder prioritises "cool" visuals with an over abundance of slowmo and pseudo-intellectual dialogue over actual well written story and character and I can't imagine 4 hours of that will be engaging.But I do have to give Snyder some props that he came back to make the movie he wanted to make, even tho this won't actually ressurect the hype for the DC Cinematic Universe the Snyder fans are hoping for.
